Best sound by Rapture3D

For the best sound experience in Dirt 3 Complete Edition you need the Rapture3D-OpenAL-Wrapper.
Unfortunately the Steam-Setup hasn´t included the Rapture3D-Installationfiles but you are able to download the last user-update from the Blueripple.com homepage.

Setup Rapture3D[www.blueripplesound.com]

After downloading, install the programm.

Start Dirt 3 and listen to the sound. Anything changed ?

End Dirt 3 and search by Windows-Explorer to this file "*user*\Documents\My Games\DiRT3\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml to proof which entry of soundapi has been written into the gameconfig.


One entry should look like this if the install has succeded

<audio_card>
<audio mixing="rapture3D" />

If there is filled in "Software" or "Hardware" change it to rapture3D. Now you should get the best sound for this game.

If you can´t notice any soundchanges your soundchip isn´t compatible to OpenAL.
In this situation you have be satisfied to the base good sound over software.

Sorry, i didn´t written that i am using only Windows 7 x64. So i can´t tell if it will work in Win 10 too.

But you can try to install OpenAL again. Rapture3D based on OpenAL.
Get the OpenAL Windows 1.1 Installer from this site. https://www.openal.org/downloads/
After renewing OpenAL take a look if Rapture3D is working now.

Hi! Should Rapture3D - Speaker Layout.exe work in Windows 10? Mine didn't work. Not that with Dirt 3 installed, nor this updated version.

Adjust your settings in the Rapture3D-Window. Find under Windows Startmenue in "Blueripple".
Try lower settings.I´m using an old Creative Audigey 2 ZS soundcard which supports OpenAL in hardware.
