Locate Your Original Save Folder
The saves folder for the original game can be located at:
C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\skyrim\saves
Locate (or create) The New Save Folder
The Special Edition keeps your save files here:
C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\saves

If there is no saves folder here, just make one and it'll work fine.
Drag 'n Drop
Then just drag the files over from the original skyrim saves into the Special Edition saves.

Done!
go play the game

Or not, if you don't want to.

Thanks mate, indeed, that's the case if anyone else is wondering. Tested it out and earning acheivements just fine. Already earnt acheivements from base Skyrim also re-fire as long as you can meet the prerequisites again (like level based fire when you earn any new level).

The previously earned achievements obviously won't carry over, and I think that as long as it's unmodded, an old save should earn achievements just the same.

Ah nice, saves just work by default since game pretty much stayed the same? I was wondering about acheivements - do you know if you can you still earn them using a save from regular Skyrim? Of course, acheivements earned previously probably don't carry over.

Skyrim SE has Hearthfire, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn installed by default, so there's no need.

And about DLC? Can I download the Skyrim's DLC and install on Skyrim SE?

I don't know about getting it through steam, but it's available through the Bethesda.net Launcher.

steam wont let me find the creation kit. does anyone know how to fix this???

You'll only have problems with files if you have certain mods installed, but even that should be an easy fix.
