Red Orchestra 2 Optimization Guide

Let´s get crackin.
Getting it back to working after installing Win10 or new hardware.
Try disabling or enabling 3rd party monitoring software if your hardware is very weak:
- Any 3rd party hardware monitoring software or steam overlay, background processes in general.
The reason can be that certain processes, especially cpu dependant ones can cause cpu frametime issues. Very rare case, but if you run laptops who run Nvidia Optimus or AMD Fusion, unnecessary background tasks could cause performance issues. Use something like HardwareMonitor to record clocks and other necessary information with minimum background use instead of software injection hardware monitors like rivatuner from afterburner. If you can confirm that it doesn´t have any impact on performance, you cna re-enable it.

Try disabling or enabling:
- Umbra culling

Just hit ` (Open console, check your keyboard, differs when ifferent layout than ENG! (the key under escape, top left side of the keyboard) and type "umbra culling", then hit enter.

Yes. There's a system in the game that culls (hides) geometry hidden behind other geometry based on the umbra of your vision. Sometimes it doesn't work so well, weaker hardware that can't finish the calculations before it's time to draw the next frame just winds up hiding everything it hasn't checked yet. Typing that in console toggles the setting off permanently, until you type it again. Turning it off on maps where the hardware can handle it does worsen framerates, though. As such if you really have frame problems on maps where it helps it may be worth looking into binding the command to a macro.

Disable Windows Defender in Win10 (Fixed my stutter when I had a bad installation):

Defender used real time protection and thus harshly attacked cpu ressources that interrupted some process in the game and cause above mentioned cpu frametime spikes.

If you want to disable it:

Win + R ->Regedit-> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender -> Rightclick on Microsoft / New key DWORD-Value (32-bit) named DisableAntiSpyware. If it doesn´t exist, create it as a DWORD-Value 32bit. Doubleclick on it and set value of it to 1.

DEINSTALL GRAPHICS DRIVERS AND REINSTALL THEM CLEANLY. Especially the ones applied by Windows Update forcefully.

Download DDU Driver Cleaner from Guru3D, download the most stable, or latest WHQL driver for your gpu, then disable your ethernet connection in order to avoid windows force installing gpu drivers, if it still does, keep the ethernet off, reason is that windows sometimes installs already downloaded previously installed back up drivers. Just clean it first wth DDU before installing the new manually downloaded drivers. Disable GeForce Experience Overlay and other♥♥♥♥♥♥too.

Unlocking the framerate & graphics settings:
Thanks to Pimp

Recommended for RO2 only up til this point though.
Smoothened framerates can help tackle stuttery gameplay.

Turn off ambient occlusion and depth of field. Lighting quality and shadow quality take the biggest hit on bandwidth. Manage that as well. Check your Vram and Ram usage. Going above Vram or Ram limits causes the game to stutter as it has to load the data instead from the faster VRAM from the slower RAM. And in case of full RAM, it loads instead from the slower RAM from the even slower page file on your HDD/SSD. Set everything to lowest to eliminate any possible bottleneck and then carefully drive up graphics settings and try to get a sense of what could cause your system to drive against a wall.

Check mouse windows settings in the control panel and check your mouse rate with a tool, use google.

People who play with mouse acceleration are demons and not worthy of enlightment for the superior FPS priests shall strike upon thee who ♥♥♥♥ing dare to insult raw mouse input and accuracy.

!KILL! game dvr:

Basically a Win 10 exclusive new feature to record gameplay and screenshot auto activated in Win 1ß even with a clean install, it´s the annoying bar you use down below when starting games. It bugged and ♥♥♥♥s with a lot fo stuff like savegames and framerate for some.

The .reg files below will modify the DWORDs in the registry keys below.
AppCaptureEnabled DWORD
0 = Off
1 = On
GameDVR_Enabled DWORD
0 = Off
1 = On

All on off.

Disable superfetch, windows search if you don´t need it

Rightclick on windows taskbar -> task manager -> services and open services Win 7 and Win 10.
-> Dsiable Superfetch and windows search service. They provide faster Windows searchbar search and use the hard disk of the main parition to speed up things by preoccuping them to find things faster. Like instead of a coldstart, a warmed up start to reudce latency and improve reponsiveness. Useless with games that cache when texture streaming. Useful for desktop use. But with an SSD this basically becomes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feature no one will need anymore.

Admin rights?
Don´t start any RO/RS game with the exe on admin rights, it will always tell you to start it with steam aka through the library withotu any. Leave it at that.

Fix memoy - page file:
In fact high memory usage not only occurs in Windows 10, but also happens in Window 7/8 and Windows 8.1. The Windows 8/8.1 registry hack can fix this high memory issue in Windows 10.
Step 1. Hit Windows Key + R Type in Regedit and then hit Enter.
Step 2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management in the editor.
Step 3. Find ClearPageFileAtShutDown and change its value to 1.
Step 4. Restart the computer.

Turn off cpu parking Win 7 and 8/8.1:
Win 10 disabled it automatically.
Otherwise: Win + R -> type "regedit" -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\ PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00 -> open the subkey called 0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583. There you find „Attributes" which you set from 1 to 0.

After closing regedit call up the previously mentioned energyplan and click advanced energy settings from the control panel. Go to CPU minimal performance or parking and set all to 100%. MINIMUM and MAXIMUM. FULL PERFORMANCE MATE.
Google if not well enough explained.

Use CCleaner and Defraggler to clean your PC once in a while. Check Ressources tab in the task manager to confirm that your PC doesn´t occupy any utilization from background tasks on CPU and HDD. Intel HD users need to check if the primary gpu is their nvidia chipset/amd chipset if they use a laptop with fusion/optimus and if it´s on maximum performance settings.

is the server using custom stuff? or is it all main game basic? could any of the config tweaks in the guide you used broke your game? did you try reinstalling it from scratch to eliminate the chances of such a thing occuring due to tweaking? do you have punkbuster updated? or even installed and the server runs on it? there are so many things...google might help more as this is a game crash tht canßt be easily fixed by a fixing guides steps.

My game often gets stuck on "Server changing map" screen. Wat do?

What error message do you get? Often more than not if you get a windows error message it states some kind of code for you to google. If the game crashes each time after a match and you don´t get any reports, messages or anything really, that could mean its your system, as in drivers, incompatbility issues with UE3, a huge amount of reasons. Deinstalling the game, deinstalling all drivers, CCleaner cleaning, hard drive cleaning, whatever is necessary to gget the system back on track, clean install of WHQL display drivers. It´s a tough one in every game if there´s no clue to research on.

What about getting thrown out of the game after every match?

Thanks, but I refunded the game yesterday........

It´s basically Windows Defenders 24/7 real time protection that doesn´t do jackshit except fuck with some games as it abuses cpu ressources and leads to hick ups and lagging for some people. Don´t worry Windows Firewall will still be enabled and can be reenabled just as security center and notifications. Imagine a 24/7 running feature of a Microsoft integrated anti spy and virus protection that is as protective as avoiding fishy links. If you want proper free detection get AntiVir or some other stuff.

I'm desperate and do not understand. Does the antispyware make my computer more vunerable? Pls reply
