Europa Universalis IV Guides: Achaea
By Caelem
I have decided to make a guide for every nation in EUIV in alphabetical order, of course starting with the Free-City of Aachen and ending with the Tribal Monarchy of Zazzau. Each nation will be given an in-depth Guide until the Protestant Reformation unless they are a major country, in which case it may or may not go further.

Onwards to the smallest daughter of Byzantium, Achaea!

Getting Started. From 1453
Playing Achaea

Achaea is a releasable one-province-minor from Byzantium in 1444 however if you make a trip forward to 1453 then Achaea (and Morea) will be released, aswell as having the advantage over Morea, because you are Western.

Surviving the Ottoturk.

From 1453 the Ottomans are in "the First Ottoman-Hungarian War" So that gives you time, try to not get warned, and press a claim on Athens or Morea ASAP. aswell as improve relations with anyone so you dont get killed. Poland, Styria, France, Austria just someone to make the Ottomans not want to attack you in fear of their precious troops.

What to do? and Where to go?
Reforming Byzantium

Use the newly gained allies to help you expand north, needing Edrine, Constantanople, ect. It can and probably will be a hard fight, but if you manage it, then you have sucsessfully removed Kebab.

Escape?

To lazy to take on the Ottoturk? then sail 8-10k troops to Granada, no-cb them and vassalize, then annex the vassal, and use exploration ideas to discover new lands for Rome!

If your going this route, then do the obvious way to get cash. Mexico, conquer mexico for the gold, which you can use for mercs against your enemies in Europe.

Jerusalem?

This is the hardest challenge, as you have to do it before the Protestant Reformation. do not waste time with Kebab, you only need three provinces, so conquer Morea, and jump from Rhodes then use the Mamluk's guarentee of Cyprus to get into a war with them, and use a good local ally to help you tackle the slaves of Egypt.
Religions?
Staying Orthodox

Orthodox is a good religion and favorite of some, as every three years you will probably get an event that will give you a choice between a nice bonus or 5 piety, the piety gives you nice permement bonus.

Convert to Sunni or Catholic

Converting to either of these religions would make alliances easier to get however, it would mean you'd have to conquer one of these provinces. While sunnis surround and can be found eaisily, Catholics, are harder as there are Catholic states however no local catholic provinces.

Catholic all the way to Protestant or Reformed

this one is just to have fun however its ok choice if you feel like constantly converting provinces, and be carful if you do as you have to wait until the "recently converted" modifier goes away

(which gives -100% missionary strength)
Ideas
Greek Ideas

Achaea starts with Greek ideas which are offensive based ideas with some navy and trade thrown in, and to top it off some nice Infantry combat ability halfway through.

First idea?

For your first idea group I'd go with Religious or a military idea to give you that nice religious CB and to just generally help with Kebab

Second Idea

For your second idea you want to go Defensive / Offensive / Quality / Quantity your choice, do what fits your position

Third idea

For your third idea you can go Diplomatic, Economic, or innovative, all pair nice with your ideas and will make your life easier

1453 is still 9 years you lose out on. It's possible to have a better start from 1444 than 1453.

That would double the work load, and since 1453 isn't that much different for most starts, wouldn't have that much of an effect.

Then you should write for both 1444 and 1453.

You should really make the guide focus on the 1444 start, rather than 1453.
