Illusion Spell: Banish Light

Update v1.2:
- Extinguished lights can be relit using any fire-based spell or shout.
- Duration is now based on Illusion skill level, it starts at 5 seconds for 0 Illusion skill and increases to 65 seconds at 100 skill. This will still work with mods that increase the skill cap, it will just continue to increase as you increase Illusion skill above 100.

This mod adds an Illusion spell called Banish Light, it is a targeted spell that will extinguish any light for a short time, lowering the light level and making it a bit easier to sneak past NPCs. Banish Light requires a minimum Illusion skill of 25, see below for details on how to acquire the spell tome in game. Spell tome price and mana consumption are comparable to other apprentice level Illusion spells.

NOTE: Not all light emitters have corresponding unlit versions. For those that do, this spell will replace the lit emitter with the unlit one (and vice versa when the effect wears off). For those emitters without unlit versions, the lit emitter will still remain after using Banish Light (this is only cosmetic though, the spell will still disable nearby light effects, lowering the light level). I'm currently working on adding unlit meshes to fix this.


Compatability
==============
I have not yet tested this mod with popular lighting mods to see if there are any conflicts. This mod should not cause any problems with other mods, but it is likely that the Banish Light spell will not work on any new lights added by another mod.


How to Acquire In Game
=======================
- You can buy the Banish Light spell tome from the following merchants:
- Enthir, Winterhold College
- Farengar, Whiterun
- Sybille Stentor, Solitude
- Nelacar, Winterhold
- Madenas, Dawnstar
- To ensure the vendor carries the tome, visit one of the vendors above, leave the current area, wait 24 hours and return.
- If you'd rather just use the console, use the following command:
player.addspell XX0053eb
Where XX is the number this mod appears in your load order (you can also use the command 'help "Banish Light"' to get the full id).

History
=======
1.2 2012/6/28 - Lights can now be relit using any fire based ability (spells, shouts, etc.).
- The duration is now based on your Illusion skill level, the higher your skill the longer the light will remain extinguished. (At 0 skill the duration is 5 seconds, this increases to a maximum of 60 seconds at 100 skill)
1.1.2 2012/6/26 - New approach to adding to vendor lists, should work now, check above for new list of vendors.
1.1.1, 2012/6/23 - Fixed bug preventing spell tome from being added to vendor lists.
1.1, 2012/6/21 - Lowered mana consumption and fixed a minor issue with adding the spell tome to vendor lists.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
- There are occasionally multiple light emitters right next to each other, at the moment the Banish Light spell will only replace one of them with the unlit version, leaving the others still lit.

- Some candles will extinguish only once, once they return to normal, BanishLight will still disable the light effects, but the emitter will remain unchanged. Exiting and re-entering the cell should return it to normal.

will it work with the circlets of power mod? which fortifies illusion level effectiveness (but not potency / duration)?

@Melek what would be your reaction to your campfire in a dark cave suddenly going out and getting the 'likely to be eaten by a grue' message?

The spell not being silent is actually kind of annoying... I have the silenced spell perk and it still causes people to start to search for me. Same with fury. I think it might be the AOE effect that causes the problem? It really makes it tough for me to kill the lights then pick the pockets of someone while it's dark... Is there any way to fix that?

Also when I used it on the shrine next to the secret thieves guild entrance it caused the guards to become hostile to me... Is that normal?

stealth charecters who want to use this spell have to work at it to get the illusion perk that makes all spells silent, I think that makes it balanced just cast courage on everyone youll get there ;) an activating switch is a bit unrealistic, Can you put a fire out just by touching it? your right about the candlestands though. vanilla tried to implement this by the torch grabbing but theres just too many candlestands in the game.

Look up "Better Shadowcloak of Nocturnal" mod. It's like these mods were meant for each other!

This is great, but I already notice an issue in the image: this spell is not silent. This causes it to have the undesired effect of being noticed upon casting. What I would like to see is more of a Metro form of light changing, where one can just walk up to the lighted object and activate it (e), and it would go out. This would work especially well for players that are stealth, but not mages.

can you also add a spell that would be permanent banish light(that means it can only be relit with fire spell/shout)

I installed the mod, but it's not appearing among any of the spell merchants. Using the console's "help" command also doesn't show the spell as listed. What gives?

iv had issues with this mod back when it came out and i still have issues. the items just literly dont exist i type in the help "help banish light" and it comes up saying an error something along the lines of compiled script not saved!. do you still look after this or am i waisting time even reporting this bug?
