How to use an Existing DFO Account on Steam

A guide on how to play the Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online with an existing DFO account.

Introduction

If you have an existing Dungeon Fighter Online account before the Steam release or if you made an account before finding out about the Steam version, you can't link that account to the new DFO account Steam creates for you when you download the game off of Steam. However, there is a way to play the Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online with your existing account without linking it to the newly created Steam DFO account.

This only works on existing accounts made on the Official Dungeon Fighter Online website[www.dfoneople.com] run by Neople. Accounts on this site were either created with an e-mail and password, Facebook account, or Google+ account.

This doesn't work on Nexon accounts made when Nexon America was publishing Dungeon Fighter Online. All accounts that were made between 2009 and 2013 were wiped when Nexon America decided to close Dungeon Fighter Online.

Getting Dungeon Fighter Online on Steam

If you already uninstalled the non-Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online and want to do a fresh download on Steam, you can skip this section.

If you have the non-Steam version of the game installed, you don't need to redownload the game. Moving the files from your current directory to your Steam directory is very simple and much faster than uninstalling the game, redownloading the game on Steam, and updating the game on DFO's launcher.

Download the game on Steam. The file is very small because it is just the Dungeon Fighter Online launcher, but we need to download it because it comes with Steam api files. Don't open Dungeon Fighter Online yet. The launcher will open up and do a fresh download and install that will take up more time than moving your currently installed game to the Steam directory.

Find out where you installed Dungeon Fighter Online.


The default directory for the non-Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online:
C:\Neople

There should be a folder called "DFO" located in the non-Steam directory. Copy that folder and paste in into the Steam directory.


The default directory for the Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

A window will appear asking if it is okay to override 2 files. Press accept and you should be finished.


If you did it correctly, you should have a folder in your Steam directory called "DFO" with the same files inside it as your non-Steam version except with the Steam api files.

Using your Existing Account

Open up the Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online.


The shortcut for Steam's version of Dungeon Fighter Online should look like the new remasted logo.


The DFO launcher should open up with an account already logged in. That is the new account Steam creates for you that is linked with your Steam profile. Press the "Log out" button.


You should be able to enter your existing account's login information. When you press "Play", your friends will be able to see that you are playing Dungeon Fighter Online and you should be able to use the Steam overlay.

Congratulations! You are now playing Dungeon Fighter Online on Steam.

Additional Information

Every time you open up the Steam version of Dungeon Fighter Online you have to logout before entering your existing account information.

Steam achievements don't work when you are playing with an existing account.

Many players have stated that the DLCs won't work on existing accounts as well.

So I did all the steps correctly, but when I launch the shortcut, it shows me the Register Email and Continue options instead of the Logout. Does my DFO email got to be the same as the Steam one ?

This makes me sad that I can't continue off my Nexon account. Another reason to hate that vile, money-grabbing company.
