Running the editor
The editor is launched from Eador. Imperium launch screen. Click the "Editor" button to run it.

Map tab (F1)
This is where you set up the basic attributes of your map, or generate a random one.

World rules

Select special rules in effect for your map. Currently available options are:

Default - basic shard without any special rules

World of fire - the volcanic world. Decreased gold income and increased gem income. Lowered morale and population growth. Deadlands are ubiquitous, while common plains are few. Lands of Chaos and dwarven hills are very common.

World of ice - the arctic world. Decreased gold income. Lowered starting population, population growth and mood. Tundra is very common.

Fog of War

Choose whether the map will be covered with the fog of war, or revealed from the start.

Map size

Select the size of your map. The map is always a square, ranging from 6x6 (36 provinces) to 20x20 (400 provinces) hexes.

Note that if you decrease the size of your current map, all content to the bottom and to the right of your new map edge will be lost!

Number of players

The number of active competing sides, from 2 to 16.

Crop/Enlarge map

An advanced tool to change the size of your map. It allows to select a specific region of the map while making a map smaller, or add a kind of borders you desire while making it larger.

Normally the map is cropped or enlarged at the bottom and at the right side. Use the "move down/up/left/right" buttons or click and drag on the map grid to move the new map mesh (red grid) relative to the existing map (green square). Click "Apply changes" to finish.

Generate map

Generate random map of specified size.

Map settings

Global settings used to populate the random contents of the map upon importing it into the game:

GuardsLevel - strength of AI armies defending neutral provinces and sites, very weak to very strong.

Population - average province population values, very sparse to densely populated

Resources - the amount of resource sites to generate, very few to lots.

Sites - the amount of other sites to generate, very few to lots.
Landscape tab (F2)
Use this mode to paint your map with specific terrain types:

Mountain

Impassable (except by the pilot) terrain.

Water

Impassable (except by the pilot). Can be crossed from a neighboring province with a wharf-type building.

Lake

Impassable (except by the pilot). Unlike the sea, a "lake" hex does not make its neighboring provinces "coastal" for the purpose of selecting random province names. More importantly, it also means wharf-type buildings cannot be constructed at the shores of a lake.

Plain

Normal plains. High gold income, low gem income, high population, few sites, easy exploration.

Forest

Normal woods. Average gold and gem income, average population, more sites, mildly difficult exploration.

Hill

Normal hills. Same gem income as in the forests, higher gold income and a bit easier exploration than in the forests, lower population.

Swamp

Normal swamp. Low gold income, high gem income, very low population, very difficult exploration, lots of sites.

Desert

Neutral province without population. Cannot have defenders placed. No income, easy exploration, lots of sites.

Deadlands

Neutral province without population. Cannot have defenders placed. No income, easy exploration, lots of sites.

To paint your map with a specific kind of terrain, click on it to select, then Ctrl-click on the map.
Province tab (F3)
This is where you customize individual provinces. First, click on map hex you wish to edit. In the panel to the left, you'll see the province data:

Province #

Number and coordinates of the province. These are counted from upper left corner.

Terrain

Terrain type, as outlined in the "Landscape" tab.

Type

Province type. This defines its race and possible neutral guards, affects starting population size, exploration level, income and other attributes, some of which can be customized further. Some province types are unique for a specific terrain, while others might be available for 2 or more terrain types.

Race

The race populating the province. It is defined by province type and cannot be customized.

Owner

The player owning this province.

Capital

If a province is owned by a player, you can select that province to be his capital.

Castle condition

If a capital, customize the starting conditions of capital fortifications.

Attitude to the Masters

Base population mood towards each of the players.

Province name

Allows to select a name for the province. The pop-up list of names has two filtering options:

Only free names: only show the names not used elsewhere on the map, or show all names
Only type-specific names: only show the names fitting this particular combination of terrain and province type, or show all names.

Population

Starting population size. Modifies province income.

Explored

Starting exploration value. Low exploration chokes down population growth. The higher is the exploration value, the more sites will be available for a visit without additional exploration by a hero.

Gold income

Base taxes from the province, modified by population.

Gem income

Base gems from the province, modified by population.

Guard

Select a neutral party protecting this province from the aggression of the players. The pop-up list has one filtering option:

Only type-specific: only show the guards specific for this province type, or show all possible guards.

If left empty, the province will have a guard selected by the game upon loading the map, according to province type.

Once you have selected a guard, you can remove it by clicking on "X" button next to its name, or customize it further by clicking on its name. You can change guard type and guard ID (most guard types come in 4 power levels; each subsequent level comes with more and better units of increased experience), set initiative, and even customize an unique party of any units of your choice. You can further customize these units by clicking on them. See the Garrison tab for details.

Defenders

Select a troop protecting the player-held province. Only enable this option for player-owned provinces. You can customize the defenders just like you do guards, sans the power level.

Resource

Make the province possess one of the 9 resource types. A corresponding site will be added accordingly.

Random sites

Specify the number of random sites to be generated in the province. If left at 0, the game will generate the number of sites depending on its terrain and province type. It is not recommended to have the number of sites above 20.

Outer buildings

Add outer buildings for a non-capital province (see Buildings tab)

Inner buildings

Add inner buildings for a capital province (see Buildings tab)

Sites

Manually add sites to the province (see Sites tab)

Province garrison

Add garrison units to the province (see Garrison tab)

Copy

Copy the contents of the province into memory.

Paste

After a province's contents have been copied, paste them to overwrite another province. You can customize which of the province's attributes to paste and which to skip.

Lake

Water hexes only - switch between plain sea and a lake (see the Landscape tab).

Mountain pattern

Mountain hexes only. This allows you to switch between several graphic types of a mountain, including desert, deadland, volcano mountain and a chasm. You can also plant a special "mountain pattern" covering 2 or 3 hexes at once. The "child" hexes of a pattern will turn into a mountain as well, one you cannot customize anymore.
Buildings tab (F4)
Here you can customize the outer buildings of a non-capital province, or the contents of the castle of a capital province. Click on "Add castle/province building" and select a desired building from the list.

It is not recommended to add more than 3 outer buildings to a non-capital province.

When adding castle buildings, you can ignore the normal in-game limitations (e.g. "only 4 buildings producing units of the 1st rank"); however, the number of slots for recruitable units and for spells to study is still limited by the game's GUI, so you won't be able to take advantage of more than 12 recruitable units (of any rank) and the standart amount of available spells.
Sites tab (F5)
Here you can manually add sites for your heroes to find and visit. Click on "Add site" to select a site to add. Note that there can be only one resource site per province (the first 9 sites are resource sites).

Once you have added a site, it appears on the panel to the left, and can be further customized after clicking on it. Here you can set the exploration value of the province when this site will be discovered, select the guard type and customize it just like you customize the province guards.
Garrison tab (F6)
Here you can customize the garrison manning the fortifications in the province. You should only set garrisons at player capitals, and at player-owned provinces with fortification-type outer buildings. Click on the "Unit" field of a desired rank to select a unit to add to the garrison.

Having added a unit, you can customize it further by clicking on it:

Set level

Set the level of a unit. It will have a number of random abilities added accordingly to its new level.

Health, Morale, Stamina

Change the base attributes of a unit.

Medals

Add up to 3 medals to the unit. Medals provide valuable boosts to the unit's attributes, but increase its upkeep.

Upgrades

Special abilities assigned to the unit or gained by it as it levels up. Starting abilities cannot be removed. Click to "Upgrade: Empty" field at the bottom to add more abilities. You can remove some of the level-gained abilities by clicking on the X button next to them.
Players tab (F7)
Here you can select the number of active players on the map (2-16) and customize them. The human player is always Player 0, the rest are controlled by the AI.

Number of players

Select the number of active players.

Player

Choose a player to edit.

Profile ID

Choose a personality for the selected AI player from among the Masters of the Broken World.
