Elder Scrolls Calendar and Eras. (How it works)

Hi! In this guide I'm going to explain how the Calendar works in the Elder Scrolls games and how many eras are. Also I'll write what era was about.

Introduction

Hi! My name is A96061-T6 and in this guide I'll explain to you how the calendar works. Not just how it works. I'm going to list all the months and how many days are in these months. I'll list all eras and what happened in them. Let's get started!

Months

Just like in our world Tamriel has 12 months. Only the number of the days in the months and their names what is different.

You may have noticed that das means day.

Eras

Now here comes the harder part.

There are 6 eras in Tamriel's history. An era is not defined by years. Its defined by events.
I'll list every era's major events. (I need to say it right here.Because i only have little time to sit at computer i straight copied the description of the eras from the Elder Scrolls Wikia. In the source tab i will mention this again and i will give links.)

The eras in order. (From earliest to newest.)

The Dawn Era:
"The Dawn Era is the Era in which time began and the world was created. It was a time of chaos and magic where gods walked Nirn. Elven history begins after the Cosmos stabilizes when Magnus leaves the world of Nirn and Lorkhan is condemned for creation of the mortal plane. "

The Merethic Era:
"The Merethic Era is the Era that begins when a linear timeline can be discerned. This Era begins in ME 2500 and goes backwards to 1E 1 (the first year of the first era). Some notable events of the Merethic Era include the construction of the Adamantine Tower (ME 2500), the exodus of the Aldmeri peoples from their ancestral homeland Aldmeris and settling of the vast coasts of Tamriel, and later the exodus of the "Nedic" peoples from the continent of Atmora, the ancestors of the Nords, who begin settling the northern coasts of Tamriel. The Era ends with the founding of the Camoran Dynasty in Valenwood. "

The First Era:
"The First Era is a very long Era which lasts for 2,920 years and is marked by a visible shift in power between the Elven and Human races, with the rise of the Cyrodiil Empire. The Second Era begins when the Reman line of Cyrodiilic Emperors is assassinated and the Tsaesci Potentate Versidue-Shaie takes the throne. The most notable events of the First Era include the formation of the first Orsinium, the first kingdom of Skyrim, the first empire of the Nords, and the first "Empire of Men" led by Saint Alessia. "

The Second Era:
"The Second Era lasts 896 years, formed with the death of the Reman dynasty of the Cyrodiilic Empire. The more notable of the events of this Era include the assassination of Potentate Versidue-Shaie and later his son Savirien-Chorak and all his heirs, ending the second Empire of Men and causing the Interregnum. This period was also marked by the Three Banners War between the Ebonheart Pact, Daggerfall Covenant, and the First Aldmeri Dominion over the Ruby Throne, while the elven necromancer Mannimarco ruled the Empire and worked with the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, who wished to drag the mortal plane into his own plane of Oblivion, Coldharbour. "

The Third Era:
"The Third Era is a rather short era which lasts 433 years (it is the Era in which The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind occurs). This Era began when Tiber Septim united all of Tamriel under the banner of the Empire and the Septim Dynasty begins. Since the beginning of the Third Empire of Men, there have been many civil wars and revolts against the Empire's rule. "

The Fourth Era:
"This era starts when the main quest of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is completed.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also takes place during the Fourth Era, at the dawn of its third century. Notable events of this Era so far include the rise of the Third Aldmeri Dominion and its conflict (politically, militarily, and theologically) with the post-Septim Empire of Tamriel. Also significant is the Dragon Crisis, which begins (and ends) with the main quest of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. "

For further reading, read the books in the game as they cover various topics in the lore. The Elder Scrolls Libraries is also a nice physical release of the in-game books with beautiful artwork troughout multiple volumes. If you don't want to spend money, visit the UESP WIki.

Hi, Sllocsredle! I didn't make the thumbnail calendar I found it on the internet. Now after your comment I've seen that the link is down so I'll update it. I'm not an editor at any of the wiki sites I just frequented them back in the day when I engaged with The Elder Scrolls content more often. If you're interested in the lore I suggest you read the sources themselves, the books in the game. I also recommend the Elder Scrolls Libraries series in which they make a physical print of the in-game books with nice artworks. If you're interested in the lore but don't want to spend money I suggest using the UESP wiki and not them Fandom because there are no ads on the UESP wiki and it is strictly moderated. wow, I had no idea the Imperial Library was one of the oldest lore sites for Elder Scrolls, that is amazing, are you one of the artists or do you just write some of the info in there?
