The Guild 2 games have a problem with more recent versions of Windows and after launching the game there might be no intro video or your computer might even freeze at a black screen needing a hard reset to use again. There are a couple of ways of dealing with this.

1. As soon as you hear noise after launching the game, hit <ctrl> + <alt> + <del>. Then hit cancel, the game should run fine now but you'll need to repeat this each time you start the game. (Jernfalk in the comments suggested spamming the <esc> key as an alternative.)

2. This is a permanent solution but requires a bit more work. Navigate to the folder where the game is installed (in my case it was C:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\The Guild 2 Renaissance )

Find a file called config.ini and double click to open it in Notepad. Find the following entry:

// Show the splash screen at programm startup (0:no 1:on (default) )
SplashScreen = 1

Now change the = 1 value to = 0

Save and close the file, now whenever you launch The Guild 2 you should be taken directly to the main menu.
