How to Craft the Cell Phone

How to craft the upgraded Magic Mirror that can tell you heaps of detailed information around you.

Introduction

No, not the iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy S6 (Sorry to dissapoint if you are here for that, whoops.)

But the Cell Phone. It is a very helpful informational tool that displays helpful...well, information, such as time, depth, fishing power, moon phase, dps, movement speed, total kills of the previous enemy you've killed, treasure, etc. But the most important thing is that IT CAN ALSO TELEPORT YOU BACK HOME (wow)



However, crafting it requires a lot of other informational items which could be difficult to obtain at times.
I will try my best to give the order in which is much easier to obtain to harder to obtain in the following detailed steps

If you want to skip the "useless" information in the following steps, SKIP TO TL;DR and there will be a convenient chart that shows you how to get it.

Step 1 - GPS

The GPS (Global Positioning System) is porbably one of the easiest things to acquire to make the Cell Phone.

For the GPS, you will need:

Compas
It has a 2% chance to be dropped from Mimics, Salamanders, Giant Shellys, Crawdads, Mother Slimes, Piranhas, Snow Flinxes, Undead Vikings, and Armored Vikings.
Since you will encounter these mobs often, the chance of it dropping is quite early in the game.
It tells you your East/West coordinates in the game.

Depth Meter
Although it is a 1% drop chance from ANY BAT you will encounter them quite often, so it too has a good chance to drop early in the game.
It tells you how deep or how high you are below/above the surface respectively.

Gold or Platnium watch
You only need one of either of these, and they are easy to craft as well (10 Gold/Platnium Bars, 1 chain at a table+chair)

Step 2 - R.E.K. 3000

The next item required is the R.E.K. 3000.
Fun fact, R.E.K. stands for Rares, Enemies, Kills.
To craft the R.E.K. 3000, you will need the following:

Tally Counter
It keeps track of the mobs you kill, but can only keep track of those that can drop banners.
It has a 1% chance of being dropped from Angry Bones, Cursed Skulls, and Dark Casters, all of which are found in the Dungeon. Since you'll still be killing those mobs constantly while exploring the dungeon, you'll most likely get the drop.

Lifeform Analyzer
This item can be purchased from the Traveling Merchant for 5 gold when he sells it. Since the amount of items he sells is between 4-11, there might be some waiting in between to get this item.
This one helps you detect rare enemies based on a value assigned to them. This one can really help you out when trying to get the Metal Detector from Nymphs (See Step 4)

Radar
The radar can be found in Wooden Chests that are present in the surface.
A good way to find this item is to create new worlds and run along the surface and find some wooden chests (has a 1/11 chance to be in a chest on the surface level)
It detects nearby enemies that are around a 30 block radius from you.

Step 3 - Fish Finder

Fish Finder
This one is a little more difficult to get.
All of the accessories needed can be acquired from doing Fishing Quests from the Angler.

Fisherman's Pocket Guide
Displays current fishing power.

Sextant
Displays the current phase of the moon (certain phases give boosts to your fishing power)

Weather Radio
Displays the current weather on the surface of your world (rain boosts your fishing power)

Each of the accessories have a 2% chance to be acquired from the Angler when you complete the quest, and somethimes you may recieve the same one, requiring you to do more.

Step 4 - Goblin Tech

Goblin Tech
Perhaps the hardest in this list to acquire.
The first two items are but a chance through the Traveling Merchant, the last is a bit more difficult

DPS Meter
Can be purchased from the traveling merchant and just like all the other itmes that can be bought from him, there is a 3% chance of him selling it, so you may have to wait.
Tells you your Damage Per Second (DPS) that you deal to enemies you attack with any weapon.

Stopwatch
Can be purchased from the traveling merchant and just like all the other itmes that can be bought from him, there is a 3% chance of him selling it, so you may have to wait.
Tells you your speed in which you are moving in. Sadly measured in mph, with 1 MPH being about 0.75 tiles

Metal Detector
Perhaps hard to acquire unless you are on Fortune's Cap (Hamlet anyone?)
It is has a 50% drop rate (Or 100% on hardmode) from a Nymph
These are very rare to come across, as they spawn very infrequently in the underground. So here are some way you can come across them more likely:

They spawn more often in the Cavern Layer
They spawn more frequently in the Jugnle Underground
They spawn less often based on the total enemies near you
They spawn less often after you reach Hardmode

There are guides out there that help you encounter them more often, but this is not one of them.
Also, the metal detector detects nearby ores and treasure chests.

Step 5?

You put it all together in a Tinkerer's Workshop with a Magic Mirror or Ice Mirror. Thats it.

TL;DR

This is for the people who either didn't read, or want a more simple flow chart.

Conclusion

Now you know how you can craft this bad boy, it may be a bit difficult to get it, but hey, since you've gotten this far, I know you can do it!

The Cell Phone is indeed a somewhat end-game item, as it has no real purpose other than for informational status, but it still has the benefit of a Mirror, allowing you to return home.

i was exploring underground in prehardmode at the beginning of the game. the first thing in this whole list i got was THE METAL DETECTOR. i found two nymphs at the same time and one dropped it.
