First Glance
When you first start off playing "Stardew Valley," you will see that the land good ole Gramps left you needs a bit of work before you can start that beautiful farm you wanted.

Now while this might look daunting, you'll notice that after a in-game weeks, you'll have most the land clear. The only things remaining, besides non-removable objects, should be some stumps, fallen logs, and big rock piles (these require better tools which you acquire as the game advances). Besides these few obstacles, you should be able to start to see that with such a vast canvas to farm, a little bit of preplanning can save you a whole lot of time in the future.
Planning Time
So, if you are like me, you can't help but wanting to plan every little aspect out wayyyyyy ahead of time. As in, before you have even completed a year in-game, you already know where all those fancy buildings you plan to buy, and all those seasonal crops will be planted. Thats where I came across these neat website Stardew Planner[stardew.info]. Now I would like to note that I am not the creator of this site, but I do have the developer's (Mr. Henrik Peinar) permission for this guide. That being said, I hope that he will not have a problem with me making a guide heavily based on his site. With this site though, you can see all the buildable objects, as well as how much space you can utilize, and with this in mind it becomes easier to build that dream farm blueprint out of game so when you get back in you don't have to waste your precious daytime.

Here's an example that someone posted online.

Sum Up
While it might seem incredibly obvious that this game requires you to plan both your time and space, I feel that with the right tools it becomes so much easier. With that in mind, I hope everyone who sees this guide and looks it over comes to love the preplanning tools available as much as I do.
Credits
Credit goes to Mr. Henrik Peinar for developing the software Stardew Planner[stardew.info].
"For the future reference, the planner is open source & available on GitHub under Apache v2 license which allows anyone to freely use it as long they give credit where credit is due." -Henrik Peinar

I Personally customize my farm with fashion and not farming. Call me a hipster. Still, I do have a farm, and I know how to farm pretty damn well.
