I think only wood should be allowed for tree bases. It's basic science and mass understanding. A wood tree base would not be able to accomodate all the weight of a metal home. As this is wtill alpha, I would urge the devs to remove the metal version. This may be a game about living with dinos and making homes on their backs, but it makes much more sense than a giant wooden tree being able to hold the mass of a huge metal house. The tree would collapse.

*Doesn't want the nice house destroyed*. I am sure the house is just suffering from a rotten meat reactor meltdown, and the Titanosaur repair base has come to "assault" the problem right away!
