Intro
Harvesting Professions each have a harvesting tool which can be used to harvest their respective resources. You receive a basic harvesting tool from a quest in Deradune, Ellevar, Celestion, or Algoroc. Harvesting tools have multiple tiers, each tier harvests all materials faster, and if you intend to use harvesting tools, the top tier tool is generally worth getting. It’s worth noting you can harvest any node you are trained in harvesting using normal attacks as well as the tool. At higher gear item levels, it’s usually faster to attack to harvest rather than use a tool. A max level character will usually harvest all non-top tier mats faster by attacking than with a tool. The In-Game Store sells a harvesting tool that can be used on all professions for 390 Protobucks or 195 OmniBits, but tends to not be very useful at higher gear tiers.

In addition, skyplots can have One Harvesting FABkit which can be crafted by an Architect. Materials generate on the FABkit automatically for you to harvest, and the plot has a monthly repair cost of a few gold. If you harvest at least once a day, the vendor sale price on the materials gathered outweight the cost of renewal significantly. There are also Harvesting Circles for Housing plots, allowing those who are Neighbored to yield from the FABkit if your housing plot's settings allow for such. You can ask in Housing Zone about them, it tends to be useful as Harvesting FABkits (except for Gardening) regenerate through out the day.
Harvesting Tradeskills
Relic Hunter
Gathers Omniplasm and transformers. Materials gathered from this profession are the main ingredient in Technologist crafts. On rare occasion, the relic node will attempt to run away from you and can be killed for extra mats. Additionally, an Eldan Defense system may activate, which once destroyed, opens a portal to an Eldan relic facility which has unlimited relic nodes you can harvest for about 2 minutes.

Mining
Gathers Ores and Gems. Materials gathered tend to be for mainly crafting materials for Armorers and Weaponsmiths and a secondary crafting material for Architects. Gems are rare, but sell for a decent chunk of gold, especially the top tier Starshards. On occasion, the node will try to run away, and will yield more materials when killed. Additionally, a rock worm may spawn, which spawns the entrance to a tunnel when destroyed. The tunnel contains unlimited mining nodes which can be harvested for about 2 minutes.

Survivalist
Gathers wood from trees, and has increased leather, cooking material, and cloth drops. Architects mainly use the trees, leather and cloth are used by Outfitters and Tailors, and cooking materials are used for the cooking secondary spec. While harvesting nodes don’t have the occasional bonus zone, this is made up for by the increased drops.

Once you get your housing plot, you can get "fabkits" There are different kinds of preset plugins, as well as being able to tier up those plug ins as you gain in skill. You can also add a garden fabkit for seeds harvested to grow into plants for technologist, architect and cooking, relic site, mineral (mining metal and gems for weaponsmithing and armorsmithing), thicket (meat, hides, wood) for cooking, outfitting, and architecture. You can get these fabkits fromt he Auction hall or Architects. If you ask in zone chat while in housing zone, you can probably be gifted these things.
