Congratulations and welcome to Kings and Heroes!
Welcome to Kings and Heroes.

This is an early access game and while I will try to keep this guide up-to-date with the basics, keep in mind that all this information may not be up-to-date in the future.

This guide does not cover the open world, currently there is not much to do outside of dungeons.
When the open world becomes a more important part of the game, I will add a section for it.

If you're having FPS troubles, see my FPS guide here.

If you ever get confused on where to go, here's map with some important locations.
Character Creation & Class Stats

When you login to the game, go ahead and click the big create hero button.

You'll be greeted with 5 different class options, for convenience I'll list them out along with their primary and secondary stats.

What do these stats mean?

Your primary stat is the stat that is most beneficial to the class you select, while the secondary stat is the second most beneficial stat to your class.
These stats are important to remember when it comes to the next part of your character.

Choosing your race

Each race, save humans, have bonuses and negatives for their primary and secondary stats.
Ideally you should choose a race that has bonus stats for your class for that little bit of extra edge, but it's a game, so feel free to select whatever you want if you don't care.

I will be listing out the races and bonuses below for convenience.

Roll the Dice

Great, you're on your way. The next step is to roll the dice and roll your characters stats. Ideally you want to aim for 18 in both your primary and secondary stat, but if you just can't seem to get it. Have at least an 18 in your primary stat and a relatively high secondary or relatively high primary and secondary stats. Hovering over each stat will tell you what it does along with any modifiers you may have from your race.

You may roll as many times as you want, but you may not save rolls for later. The old woman will yell at you for rolling a bunch of times, yell back and tell her to give you better rolls. :p

Your alignment

Right now, your alignment doesn't effect much, but go with what you would want your character to be as this will probably change in the future...

Character Customization

Customization options are limited right now, but feel free to play around with them. Your height will change your camera height as well. (i.e. Halflings look up at taller NPC's)
Getting Started with meaningful items and equipping items
Congratulations on finishing your character! Now it's time for you to delve into the world of Kings and Heroes.

Getting Started
Open your Inventory with I.

You'll see you have a few items in your inventory, including a letter and a few pieces of equipment if you're an early access backer.
Double-Click or Drag the equipment over your character to equip the items.

Meaningful Items
Kings and heroes is a little different in that it doesn't have quests, it has meaningful items. Currently, there is not much outside of dungeons, so don't worry about them too much.

You start out with a meaningful item, the letter. Head up to the Inn (Tavern) directly in front of you, past the statue and talk to the barkeep, Naemari.

Give her the letter, she'll welcome you and reward you with a little bit of experience.
Dungeons, Combat, and Loot
By now you're probably anxious to kill stuff!
I recommend doing a solo small easy dungeon, I'll explain how to do that.

Creating a Solo Dungeon
In the Inn (Tavern) that you turned your letter in at, find a stool and press G to sit. You'll be greeted with a menu.

You have 2 options, to Join or Create. With the vast amount of options, it is better to get a group together before hand or join one that is advertising in chat.
For the purpose of this guide though, we'll be creating a solo dungeon, select Create.

The next option is the size of the randomly generation dungeon. Go ahead and select small.

The next option is the difficulty of the dungeon. This seems to only impact monster health and damage. I recommend leaving it on easy for levels 1-5. Bosses are currently very difficult to solo even on easy, but with a small dungeon, you shouldn't run into that problem too often.

The type of dungeon you want. Currently "Cave" is the best and easiest option. You'll unlock more dungeons at a higher level. Go ahead and select Cave.

You have a couple drop down options.
The first one is the type of loot you want, since you're doing solo, this doesn't really matter, but I will explain the two different options.
- Round Robin indicates that loot will be distributed like a clock, rotating to the next player in the cycle.
- Free for All means that any player can loot any body, there are no loot rules.

The second dropdown menu is the type of dungeon you want.
- Use Matchmaking will use the matchmaking system in an attempt to find other players looking for that specific dungeon.
- Private Dungeon will enter the dungeon with whoever is currently present in the party.

Select Private Dungeon and click "Start Dungeon"

Sit tight, it may take a minute to enter your dungeon.

Combat
You start off with a few combat abilities.
You may view and reassign your abilities by pressing the H Key.

Be sure to read your combat abilities to understand what they do.
Simply put your crosshairs over the enemy and use the corresponding hotkey on your actionbar to attack the enemy.

Loot
Congratulations on killing your first enemy! Let's see what epic loot he had on him.
Enemy corpses that have loot will have a white outline around them.
Go up to them, hover your crosshairs over them and press G to loot.

Loot gained will be displayed in the bottom right hand corner.

Death
Oh no... You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?
When you die, you'll go to a purgatory like zone, run through the portal in front of you to return to town.

Getting back to town
There's no large indicator that you're done with your dungeon.
When you feel you've completed the dungeon fully or run into the end of the dungeon, open your inventory and double-click the Teleporation Stone.

This will open up a portal to town, simply walk through it. It may take a moment to register and teleport you back to town.

Equipment Stats
I'll just be covering basic equipment stats, most of it should be self-explanatory, but I'll do a short bit on it.

There are a few main stats you need to worry about on your equipment.

Clerics, Wizards should be concerned with Spell Power.

Champions should be concerned with Armor, Health, Strength and Melee Power. These can have different priorities depending how tanky you want your Champion to be.

Rogues should be concerned with mostly Melee power.

Rangers should be concerned with Ranged power.

The power stat of your class stacks on top of the Damage stat for your weapon.
If you're weapon does 63 damage, the power stat for your class will increase that.
Healing Spells are also impacted by spell power.
Crafting, Selling, Salvaging
Selling
You'll need gold to purchase crafting recipes and abilities, monsters do not drop gold, just items.
Items can be sold at any vendor, including your class trainer.
Click the Sell tab and click on the item you wish to sell, be careful as there's currently no buyback option. Certain items may be more value to you if you salvage them and vice versa.

Crafting
Crafting is a crucial part of this game, some of the best items can be obtained through crafting.
There are four professions; Armosmithing, Weaponsmithing, Tailoring, and Leathersmithing.

You may only have 1 profession per character. If you go to learn another profession, it will reset all your progress in the profession you currently have and start you back at level 1 for the profession you picked up. There is currently NO WARNING for this, so be careful.

See this map for the profession trainers.

Talk to the one you wish to learn and learn that profession.

Learning Crafting Recipes
Your current crafting level and recipes can be viewed by pressing the O key on your keyboard.
Your level is shown in the bottom left hand corner.

Talk to your crafting trainer and it will open up a list of purchasable recipes. Look at the skill level to ensure you can learn the recipe.

The search bar at the top will search everything, including skill level.
Example: You can type in "Skill: 145" and it will show items that require the skill 145.
Unfortunately this doesn't work very well for partial searches such as "Skill: 1" as it will show all of the recipes that require skill level 1 or 1XX.

Once you've purchased the crafting recipe, open your inventory with I and double-click on it to learn it.

Salvaging
So you've learned your first crafting recipe and you're wondering where you get all the crafting materials.

Kings and Heroes has a salvaging system in place. Salvaging will destroy the items you get and give you materials in return. To do this, go to a crafting station and press G when prompted to Salvage.

This will bring up a menu with all your current inventory items. Simply click on the item to salvage it.

Certain items will give you certain materials. (i.e. Weapons will give you wood, robes will give you cloth, etc.) Some items may be irrelevant to your craft and it may be better to sell them, rather than salvage them.

Crafting Items
At your designated crafting station, press O.
This will bring up a list of recipes you have.

Click on the recipe you wish to craft, it will bring up the list of materials you need.
SOME PROFESSIONS MAY NEED MATERIALS SUCH AS COURSE THREAD WHICH ARE NOT VERY COMMON FROM SALVAGING. THIS MATERIAL MAY BE PURCHASED AT THE GENERAL GOODS VENDOR MARKED ON THE MAP AT THE TOP OF THIS GUIDE.

When you craft the item, no box will pop up in the bottom right hand corner showing that you've received the item. Click over to your inventory to check the quality and stats of the item.

Item Quality is random from crafting, it may be grey, it may be epic. May luck be on your side.
Train your abilities
Class trainers can be found on your map.

Go to your class trainer and speak with them.
You may filter specific levels with the search box.
You must have the previous rank of any spell to advance to the next one.
For Rank 4, you must have Rank 3 and so on.

When you've purchased a skill, you will get it in your inventory.
Double-click it to learn it.
It will now show up in your abilities when you press H and you can now assign it to your action bar.
Grouping & Friends
There are a couple ways you can group with people.

First way is going up to the character and pressing G to invite them.

The next way is by pressing P to bring up your social menu.
Here you can see all the heroes in your area, their level, race and class.

The arrow next to them will allow you to invite them to group or request to be their friend.

This is also how you leave groups, there will be an option to leave your group when you are in one.

Lol, when I tried the game this winter I didn't even realize there were random dungeons available at the tavern, just tried the fixed one at the cemetery, it was pretty tedious at least solo and not very profitable loot-wise. Should try these random ones

Enjoying game, smooth combat and easy to work through dungeons and get nice drops. Crafting is simple and you can make higher quality items without upgrade mats. Very happy with this game and telling friends about it. Hope for the best and more quests in future.

I LOVE your starter Guide, Id like to share it. Loving this game, even got a few of my friends to pick it up and my wife. Yeah its Early Access so its rough around the edges but until an actual Tutorial is impllented into the game itself (which no dsoubt it will as the game develops) THIS is the best starting information Ive found. I think Alchemy has been added as a craft, the Trainer is in the Wizard District. Other then that, Awesome :D

No offence intended but people shouldn't have to mess around with all this just to be able to play a game.
