NPC Housing Guide

This is a bare bones guide to how NPCs move in, their requirements to be available, and what their likes/dislikes are. In no way is this intended to show how to theme their houses as that is personal preference

Houses

For a house to count it needs to contain:

• A Light Source (Torch, Fireplace, etc.)

• A Table or other flat surface furniture (Crafting Workbench, table, or Dresser)

• A chair or some sort of resting furniture (A bed, throne, couch, picnic table)

• Enough space for all of that above and entirely contained with normal blocks and background walls

A 4 by 8 interior, one of the minimum requirement sizes for a house

Biome Priority

Because I feel like this does need a quick mention, and honestly kind of hard to remember. The first is top priority and the bottom is of course the least

• Dungeon

• Corruption

• Crimson

• Glowing Mushroom

• Hallowed

• Jungle

• Snow

• Ocean

• Desert

• Underground/Caverns/The Underworld

• Forest

Kind of surprising the glowing mushroom prioritizes over the Hallowed but hey, the more you know

Pre-Hardmode

Hardmode is pre-Wall of Flesh and is a whole lot easier to prepare your stuff in (And to cure the corruption/Crimson in)

Guide - Available from the start, just build a house

Merchant - Probably the second or third NPC you will get, you need to have 50 silver on you to move in.

Angler - The other NPC that I was refering to, you can find (Him? Her?) it asleep at one of the world's coasts. Randomly spawns so you might have to make a few trips.

Nurse - Comes after the Merchant, you need said NPC and to have used one life crystal on that character.

Zoologist - Arrives after you've filled 10% of the bestiary

Dye Trader - For this fellow you need to get one dye component (I.E. a marigold or blue berry) and either kill the Eye of Cthulu or find a strange plant.

Demolitionist - Thanks to a friend of mine, my least favorite. Just carry an explosive with you until he shows up.

Arms Dealer - Notice how I'm putting these in an order? For him you need to have a gun. Go to the corruption/crimson with a bomb or dynamite and break a couple of hearts or orbs. Only two though.

Stylist - you can find her in a spider den underground.

Golfer - you can find him in the ant lion dens/the underground desert

Dryad - Defeat a boss that isn't the wall of flesh or king slime

Painter - Have 8 other NPCs

Goblin Tinkerer - After you break a shadow orb or crimson heart a goblin army wil show up one day. After that you can find him somewhere in the cavern layer underground

Tavernkeep - Spawns after defeating the eater or brain, allows for the dungeon defender content to happen

Clothier - He will move in after you kill Skeletrump (Spoilers: he's the old man at the dungeon)

Mechanic - You can find her somewhere in the dungeon

Witch Doctor - In the Jungle there are underground hives, and I mean large ones. Defeat a Queen Bee in one and he will come.

Party Girl - Last NPC here, will arrive after 14 others have come to the party.

* Note, Some NPCs and Biomes are not available until Hardmode. They should be planned for in advanced but taken with a grain of salt here

Hardmode

And here we have hell...if it had rainbows and unicorns and everything trying to kill you, but worse.

Tax Collector - Get some purification powder from the Dryad and use it on a tortured soul in the underworld. Note that you don't have to do this again if he dies.

Wizard - Same deal as the Goblin Tinkerer, but he can shoot fireballs

Truffle - Take some mud, mushroom grass seeds, and an area away from home and make yourself a mushroom biome above ground. You need to make a house for him there too.

Steampunker - Defeat a single Mechanical boss (Destroyer, Twins, or Skeletrump Prime) for her. She does sell the best overall wings before Moon Lord if I'm not mistaken (or an update happened)

Pirate - Defeat a Pirate invasion, using the treasure map item or by chance once you start Hardmode.

Cyborg - Defeat Plantera, so defeat the mecha bosses and mess around for a while so the Plantera bulbs can spawn in.

Princess - Have every other NPC housed outside of Santa and the pets

Santa Claus - Defeat the Frost Legion and have it be the 15-31 of december on your PC, meaning just change the calander for this one.

No quip to put at the start of this, it should be noted the Princess was not included due to maximum compatibility with Everything and Everyone. No Hating for Royalty

Achievements and Closing

No Hobo - Move someone in, probably the guide and the 20 zombies chasing him



Leading Landlord - Talk to any NPC at maximum happiness. See above tables to scheme on that.



Real Estate Agent - Move in EVERYONE, Santa is not included due to only being around a month a year. As well as the Tavernkeep oddly enough



Feeling Petty - Pet a town pet. Not really included in the guide but you buy the permits from the Zoologist. After one moves in walk up and interact with it.

These do not affect any achievements and cannot be assigned houses.
