Savage Resurrection is an asymmetrical RTS/FPS hybrid game. Aim of the game is to destroy the enemy base. Each team has one commander, who plays the game like an RTS, and additional players, who play the game like an FPS (but with a third-person mode for melee). A game can take between 2 and 60 minutes. With each new match all previous progress gets reset.

Join the furious Beast Horde and use your superior speed and mobility to gain map control. Engage the enemy with tree swinging Behemoths, magic weapons and fast-paced melee combat. Or join the Legion of Man with its powerful defensive structures, superior ranged weaponry, ranged siege vehicles and items allowing them to quickly travel back to their base.
Beasts
Important weapons:
Rabid weapon of choice for melee champions. hitting enemies/NPCs replenishes stamina, speeding up combat and mobility drastically
Carnivorous hitting enemies/NPCs heals yourself. Equivalent for medkits on the human side.
Blaze weapon of choice against siege vehicles, also strong against towers
Ember good early game weapon, also strong against towers and ballista
Frostbolts strong against towers in early game and ballista
Tempest best long range snipe weapon
Surge high dps allrounder for long and medium range, stronger and more range than Human Flux, but lower ammo
Fireball good to get down difficult shield towers, while having more HP and better self defence than a summoner

Important items:
Frenzy never leave the base without frenzy, on use it gives high stamina replenish for 10 seconds for great mobility
Sacrifice destroy enemy buildings by blowing yourself up
Storm Shield protects against splash damage: Mortar Towers, Land Mines, Demolition Charges, Mortar, Rocket Launcher and Pulse Gun
Mist Shroud allows you to get into the base without towers shooting at you (unless: they have placed sensors or the commander manually tells towers to kill you)
Firewards mines that explode on contact, great to protect spawn flags

Loadouts:
Frontline Warrior Rabid or Carnivorous, Frenzy, Stormshield/Sixth Sense, Mist Shroud
Ranged Support Tempest/Surge, Frenzy, Mana, Stormshield/Mist Shroud
Anti Siege Blaze/Surge, Frenzy, Stormshield/Mist Shroud, Sacrifice
Anti Building Rabid/Blaze, Frenzy, Stormshield/Mist, Sacrifice
Base Defender Rabid/Carnivorous/Blaze/Surge, Frenzy, Snares, Stormshield/Mist
Humans
Important weapons:
Shotgun powerful close range early game weapon, strong against Behemoths
Discharger very powerful early game against units, high ammo
Flux best mid range weapon
Repeater best mid/long range allrounder weapon, deals extra damage against Behemoths and Summoners, usually you'll need an ammo pack
Coil Rifle best long range sniper weapon, very good against Summoners
Pulse Gun weapon of choice against Behemoths
Rocket Launcher great weapon to destroy towers, also great against summoners hiding behind stones

Important items:
Medkits never leave the base without medkits (each heals 33% of your HP)
Relocater never leave the base without placing your relocater next to the base. It will allow you to leave a battle just before dieing and save a lot of gold.
Sensor very important item to avoid getting rushed. place them also in base to make towers shot at invisible Beasts using Mist Shroud
Demolition Charge equivalent to beast Sacrifice. Place it next to enemy buildings to blow them up.
Ammo Pack gives double ammo, very useful if you have to travel longer distances
Disrupter grenade that blows up Firewards and disables any upgraded tower for 10 seconds (flame spires will stop shooting and you can pass or destroy them)
Immobilizer very effective against Beasts trying to approach the base with Sacrifice, they will explode prior to reaching the building. Also effective when fighting against multiple enemies to hold some of them off.

Loadouts:
Frontline Warrior Flux/Repeater/Coil Rifle, 3 Medkits, Ammo Pack, Relocater
Anti Summoner Repeater/Coil Rifle, 3 Medkits, Ammo Pack, Relocater
Anti Behemoth Pulse Gun, 3 Medkits, Ammo Pack, Relocater
Anti Building Flux/Launcher, 3 Medkits/2 Disrupters, Demolition Charge, Relocater
Anti Sacrifice Base Defence Flux, 3 Medkits, Immobilizer, Relocater
Scout Flux/Coil Rifle, 3 Medkits/5 Landmines/Sensor, Sensor, Relocater
Human/Beast Tips
- Press "Q" to use voice commands.
- use nomad/scavenger for mining, building and repairing. they are much faster
- When you're on low HP and can't heal yourself immediately, go back to the sublair/garrison and sell all your stuff (except the weapon). That way when you die you won't loose much gold.
- The bar below the game time represents the respawn cycle. Don't die when the bar is empty (but kill enemies), only die when it's full, otherwise you will have to wait up to 30 seconds to respawn.
Commanding
Standard tactics:

Press "C" to use voice chat commands.

1. Gain map control by sending team and workers to a redstone mine further away and build a Sublair/Garrison there. Make sure they also capture the spawn flag in case there's one.
2. Keep building workers at base to mine the redstone mine there
3. Tell the team to get gold so you can build defences
4. Build Arsenal/Nexus and research crossbow/venemous
5. Build a tower/spire to secure the Garrison/Sublair and one in the base to protect your workers
6. Upgrade the Base to level 2 as soon as you have 750 redstone
7. Build Research Center/Arcana
8. Start building your first tech tree (elec/mag for Humans, strata/fire/entropy for Beasts). Don't go for chemical first unless you have a good rush plan.
9. Research Medkits/Frenzy in Research Center/Arcana while building the first tech tree
10. Start researching Savages/Stalkers at Base
11. Research tier 1 weapon, then tier 2
12. Build Siege Factory/Charm Shrine or start developing a second tech tree
13. Either update the Base to level 3 or build a second tech tree
14. Start researching Legionnaires/Predators
15. Start researching Catapults/Behemoths

Beginner mistakes:
- don't build a garrison/sublair next to the base, expand to different areas of the map
- focus on tech, not towers
- don't build all 3 tech trees, upgrade the base instead
- don't mine gold, let the players get gold by killing enemies/NPC and damaging buildings
- make sure your team has the most important items as fast as possible (Beasts: Frenzy, Humans: Medkits, Relocator)
Melee Combat
This footage is from Savage XR which has the same combat mechanics.
As long as Savage Resurrection has no duel servers and melee practice mode, learning melee in Savage XR is a good option. Open Savage XR, go to the in-game Tutorial section, watch the duel replay and practice in duel practice mode. Join the UK Martial Arena duel server where you can practice Beast moves against dummy NPCs.

Is this guide still up to date?

Xr helped a little, but resurrection seems a bit more touchy.

Yeah... Res is just not the same as XR melee and I don't think it would help you in res, also having to install another game just to practice melee is a big no for me.

That's the most important part of it, but you do also have to time your melee well, decide when to play offensively or defensively, heal up (3 medkits heals a bit less than but about 3 pred hits) or use your ranged (not used in dual servers, so beast is at an advantage here lol)

As someone who never played Savage 1 I really appreciate the melee combat videoes you linked, however, I have a question. Both of those videoes deal with beast combat and not human combat. Is blocking beast attacks all there is to human melee combat?

Nice guide! Just a bit of feedback.
- It's worth mentioning Frost Bolts for Beasts, it's a great anti-tower weapon.
- Shotgun is called Scattergun. Rocket Launcher is just called Launcher.
- You ought to make a note about spotting with Q, which is an improvement of the officer mechanic.
