How to Stack Max Discipline for Every Nation (Updated)

Discipline is the most important factor in deciding the Quality of your troops.

"Discipline is double counted as both a damage modifier and a morale damage modifier. Discipline multiplies both casualties and the morale cost of casualties, in the same way that tactics reduce casualties and morale cost. Higher discipline will cause units to deal more damage. "

I'm gonna state how to stackwipe everything AI has in your path and keep winning battles when you're outnumbered.
Learn to stack discipline is the most important thing one has to learn in this game. Be Disciplined. Be OP. Be invincible.

Update 1 Jun 16: I'm currently applying this guide to a Ottomans Europe,Arab Conquest run, the idea is to stack as much discipline as I can and have ridiculous victories. It will be updated continuously, Stay tuned!

Introduction

"Discipline is double counted as both a damage modifier and a morale damage modifier. Discipline multiplies both casualties and the morale cost of casualties, in the same way that tactics reduce casualties and morale cost. Higher discipline will cause units to deal more damage. " -- EU IV Wiki

So basically discipline is like Combat Ability mixed with Military Tactics, do more damage, take less damage, including morale.

if you have 125% Discipline, it means you do 125% dmg+moral dmg + take 75% damage!
It is a 150% increase in Combat Effectiveness overall!
More importantly, it affects ALL units, so unlike CA which affects only one; you are making your entire army stronger.

That's why Discipline is so important,
more dmg -> more enemy manpower bleed
take less dmg -> less manpower bleed for you
more morale dmg -> MORE chance to STACKWIPE (complete wipe off the map)

Stackwipe happens when the morale drops to zero before 2 fire-shock phase finishes.

How to do it

Ideas, Policies, Advisors, Government Forms all give discipline.

This is usually how I do it to make my units Terminators:

Idea Groups:
1) Economics Ideas (good for early game anyway)
2) Quality Ideas - 5%
3) Religious Ideas
4) Offensive Ideas - 5%

Policies:
1) Econ+Quality - 5%
2) Religious+Qualtiy - 2.5% + 10% Morale (Disicipline bonus is erased since 1.16)

Government:
Admin lv 20 - Absolute Monarchy - +5%

Religion:
Protestant - 2.5% for Europeans
Other religion may give +5% Discipline but I dont really play them that much.

Advisors: +5%

National Ideas: You can't change that.

In theory you can have up to
5+5+5+2.5+5+2.5+5 = 30% (27.5% in 1.16) Disicipline boost! on top of your national ideas.

So if you play Prussia, you can have up to 137.5% Discipline!
Or if you want to be super overpowered, play Ottomans, they have 5% from NI and 5% from Janissary bonus, so you can have up to 137.5% (140% if you flip to Protestant for extra 2.5%)!!

At that point you don't even need a general anymore.
Enjoy being the most overpowered army in the world!

Update 1: Ottomans Discipline Run!

So here I go! I am going to stack as much discipline as I can and start a Crusade on Europe!

1. This is the 1st major battle I am engaged in the test!! Year: ♥♥♥♥
**I am now Orthodox, so I get NO bonus for morale**



Ideas so far!

The battle & result vs Austria+Hungary forces:





You can see that, our morale is basically equal, and they have 1 more pip on Fire phase while I have 1 more pip on Shock. And terrain is grassland so basically we are completely equal.

EXCEPT, I have 120% vs their 100% Discipline, and I'm outnumbered 2:1. And I won.

Update 2: Ottomans Discipline 1526

2. It's around 1526

No bonus morale or discipline from National Idea? Too bad. Stackwipe!

Update 3: Ottomans Discipline Mid Game

3. It's almost 1600, mid game period, as Discipline becomes even more increasingly important!

When my siege stack got caught out of position, instead of instant wiped (artillery gets slaughtered in front row), they held off, allowed me to retreat and even killed off a portion of the enemy!



Massive stack battle? Winged Hussars? No problem.



Even Brandenburg is NOT my opponent!

Update 4: Ottomans vs Brandenburg Discipline

4. It's 1613 and Brandenburg took over Denmark, also finished their ideas and got everything they need.
It's clash of the titans!

They have a dominating 113% Discipline and massive morale and a good general
However, luckily i have 133% Discipline! and enough prestige to even out morale, and have a general of the same stat!!



After a brutal fight on a nearly even condition, my disciplined Janissaries won against Winged Hussars & Space Marines despite outnumbered 2:1!

Update 5: Ottomans vs French Elan!

5. To spice things up and make things interesting, I decided to a Claim Throne force PU on France!
They basically took over Iberia but this still won't be a problem!

The strength of France lies on its Elan, which gives massive morale advantage, however, discipline also increases morale damage so this is offset.

Oops sorry, I'm about to claim your throne!





And their Elan + More Elan doesn't save them from massive discipline.

Update 6: Ottomans Max Discipline

6. It's around late game now, year is 1678, I have reached the highest discipline I can get with Absolute Monarchy finally unlocked, and I'm kicking ass!

That Sexy 137.5% Discipline, highest I can stack!



Even a sizable HRE force can't defeat me.

Update 7: Ottomans vs Emperor Brandenburg

7. It's real late game now, year is 1750 and Brandenburg is really on its full military potential! Massive amount of discipline, high morale, insanely top-tier general.
And for me, as I'm Anatolian tech, my infantry will be slightly weaker than his Western tech.

Even more lucky for him, he got to become HRE emperor which gives him the manpower and force limit boost he needs.
And it also means whenever i invade the HRE, he will be called to war, I'll have to fight him everytime.

It's his 128% discipline vs my 133% discipline!



He is a hard-hitting enemy, and I won't be able to get a stackwipe on him;
But apparently, his better general doesn't save him from more quality troops.



Extremely entertaining that, anything Non-Brandenburg will lose against me!
look at how my no-general stack wins against 5-6-2-1 stack.

Update 8: Ottomans Disciplined Crusade Completion.

8. Last but not least it's all cleansed by the fire of discipline.

Austria HOW DARE YOU accursed infidels sit on the holy land of Ulm!


Brandenburg eventually got fully wiped out.



And Europe and North Africa unites! as Orthodox. Shoulda restore Roman Empire there.

An event gave me an extra 10% Discipline boost when I was invading sunset.

The result was hilarious and even France is no match to my troops.

Honestly as the ottomans you can easily get 115% discipline by the early 1500's, that with their OP early troops and them outnumbering every other country makes them unstoppable.

tbf none of this abuses game mechanics, just uses ones already there. Technically the AI could do exactly the same, its just chance or some unknown predetermined path unknown to me why they dont
