How to build "nice" houses!
By HobsonA21
Hello fellow terrarians! I always hear people saying "oh I can't build" or "oh my builds suck" etc. So I decided to make a guide on how to make "nice houses/builds! Hope you enjoy!

Step one: Getting resourses!
Ok, so to start off, I have made a new world with a new character to show how easy it is to make a good house early on.

Getting the right resourses is easy too. I reccomend 500 wood, 60-70 iron, 120 sand, 520 stone, and 250 clay. (Yes, i know my reccomendations are different from the picture, I messed up.)

Make your stone into a furnace, and make the iron ore into bars. Then, make chains, (for sawmill), an anvil, and a heavy workbench. (You might want to consider getting some cobweb whild you're getting the iron, butIi forgot.) Using the heavy workbench, make around 120 stone slabs. Using the sawmill, make around 100 planked wall. Using the furnace, make all of your clay into red bricks, use the rest of your stone to make grey bricks, make all of your sand into glass, and make all of your glass into glass walls. Make all of your slabs into walls.
Step 2: Picking an area and framing.
Pick a semi-flat area, then proceed to make it flat. After, make a long wooden box, and add some red brick and torches.

Then, make the ground grey brick and add a second "layer" to your house.

Then, make a third layer.

After, make a triangle shape for the roof. This part can be tricky, but start at the edge, and build in a "staircase" formation on both sides. When you're done, put grey bricks like this.

Then, put another layer of grey bricks on top of the grey bricks like so.
(Sorry for the darkness.)

Then, make a wooden hammer and hammer the grey bricks in this fashion.

Walls. (They are very important!)
Whenever I see people build, they always use wooden walls or something. Wooden walls DO look nice, but it's nice to have a bit of variety. It's nice to have a little "off-section" to your house.

After, I reccomend using stone slab walls, wooden walls, and glass wals and making a nice-looking pattern!

Also utilize your grey brick walls in combination with stone slab and glass to make good looking backrounds!

Then, layer the bottom with walls.

Time for a "hard" part, the roof. I reccomend using wooden beams (made at a sawmill) for roof design. (Tip: you can't make wooden beams "float" like other blocks, so place wooden platforms where you want your "cross beams" to go, place the beams on the wooden platforms, then break the platforms.)

Using glass and wood in the roof can look good.

I don't have any RULES for making a roof, I just experiment what looks good and stick with it.

After the roof, place your tables and chairs down to make it suitable for NPCs. The decorating part is up to you!

The end!
Well, you don't NEED to follow the house making rules of this guide. Again, your house doesn't NEED to look exactly like mine, or anything like it. I listed some resourses, tips, and... yeah!
I didn't decorate my house in the guide, but you can TOTALLY decorate yours with other furniture, and stuff. Hope you enjoyed!

i make houses like these but i make them suitable for one npc per house, because i despise a single building holding all npcs.

what i do to make a nice looking house is to build a bunch of rectangles of difenent sizes and orientations. make holes for doors/stairs make adjustment to make movement is the house easeir. then add bricks red or gray and decorate.
might make a guide on it later with pictures.
