The Burning Legion, also known as the ''Great Burning Shadow'', the Legion of the Lower Planes, or simply The Legion, is a vast, innumerable army of demons, infernals, and corrupted races who seek to destroy any trace or order in the universe. They have thrice invaded the Universe and were only beaten back at a terrible cost. Much of the universe's history - including the First, Second, and Third War - were due to the Legion's influence. It can be said that the Legion is the universe's nemesis, it corrupted the orcs who then invaded the universe, created the Lich King , and is the source of most of the universe's scars. It should also be noted that Azeroth is the only known planet that they have ever failed to conquer.

I know that Illidian was never a high Leader of the Legion, but since Burning Crusade, this guy is a well known Person behind the Dark Portal, and with the new World of Warcraft Addon he will arive back to Azeroth, so maybe he is it there than ;)
