Low FPS / Stutter FIX

Does Postal III run terrible and tend to freeze? Don't worry, this method should make the game run a whole lot better.

* Credit goes to Steam user Toploader ( http://steamcommunity.com/id/toploader ) for the line changes mentioned in this community guide!! The original thread with all of this info. can be found here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2574951

The method

The steps below should make this game run a whole lot better as Postal III was not really optimized for multi-core CPUs. You shouldn't run into any issues, and if you do, you can easily reverse the following steps:

1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Postal III\p3\cfg\ , and open the "autoexec.cfg" file (if it's not there, launch the game once OR create a file with the same name).

2. Change the line "mat_queue_mode -2" (without quotes) to "mat_queue_mode 2" (again without quotes).
NOTE: as Steam user Toploader stated in the original thread with all of this information, it's likely the developers meant to type -1 instead of -2 which makes the game use queued single-threaded mode. Now, however, the game will run in multi-threaded mode and it'll hopefully give you a huge performance boost like it did for me.

3. Next, add the following lines anywhere you'd like:
• physx_enabled 0 (the only noticeable thing this does is that it make the Postal Dude's jacket less flappy but it'll still move about, prevent animation problems and give the user a decent performance boost).
• r_threaded_particles 1 (this allows for the game's particle system to be multi-threaded)
• r_threaded_renderables 1 (this allows for the game's rendering system to be multi-threaded)
• snd_mix_async 1 (this allows multi-core CPUS to run the sound engine with the renderer simultaneously)
• ai_expression_optimization 1 (I didn't need to add this line, but if you're really struggling with low FPS this supposedly disables NPC expressions whenever those NPCs are off-screen)

4. Once you've added what you want, save the file. That's all there is to it!!

@DetectiveCP i think only if you enable the console and use cheats, the achievements gets disabled, and not the command lines inside the autoexec.cfg

Okay, but what if I can't even open the console? Seriously, the "~" button just doesn't work in my game.

My game runs normally with no dropped frames or anything, but when I go through the level, my game freezes with some random texture, like the dude face, or a wall. will this solve?:postaldude:

That's a shame to hear. It's a pretty crappy pc release in terms of optimization so there's not much you can do.
