What is Lemmco Sprayology™
In 2013 a vary smart man Lemmers figured out a method of packing sprays into a .vpk.
This is by far the most hassle free way to get Sprays working in Valve Games that allow them!

Just look on the Workshop for ones that say Lemmco Sprayology™ Subscribe and it Works!

Open the Spray Menu in Multiplayer you'll see your old L4D2 default list is now replaced with a whole set of different sprays being listed. Which makes this mod vary user friendly. With no need for additional install instructions that most can't follow anyway.

Of course like any .vpk mod you can Subscribe to as many Lemmco Sprayology™ mods as you like. But only one can be active at a time in your Add-Ons Menu. Yes technically you can have an unlimited number of sprays. I'll cover that later in this guide for the Advanced User.

Creating Sprays (skip if you know how)
The workshop has many guides that teach you how to make sprays. These are my methods.

Static sprays with transparancy:

- Preperation
1. Create new image in photoshop -> 256x256px
With transparent background.
Now add any images you want on top of it.
2. Save as .png

- Creating static sprays with transparancy

2. Install VTF Edit.
3. Run VTF Edit,
4. File -> Import
5. on "VTF Options", go to "general" tab.

Alpha DXT 5,
Texture type : Environment map

click "OK"

7. File -> save as, to save your new spray (.VTF)
8. Load into Lemmco Sprayology™ test in L4D2
(I'll cover #8 in the next sections)

Creating animated sprays with transparancy:

- You need to know
Max resolution is 256x256pixels. max filesize is about 256kKB.
If you exeed on of these, your spray will not be displayed.
If you want to make animated sprays from animated gif, you can split the .gif frame by frame to individual .png. You can use Ulead GIF Animator or many other apps.

Unpack a Lemmco Sprayology™ Mod
(If you know how to make VPK's skip this section move to "Build")

You need GCFScape to see files in a VPK:
A small tool that can open and extract from GCF files that are utilized by Steam.

1 ) Download and install GCFScape which is required to open VPK files v1.8.4-> http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=169#p169

2 ) Subscribe to this Lemmco Sprayology™ Pack, we will make changes for your use!
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=193820932

4 ) Go to OS (C:)Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\ addon\workshop

5 ) Right Click the vpk 193820932 and open with GCFScape
or "choose default progam" pick GCFScape from now on double-click any VPK to open it.
6 ) You could extract these files now to your Desktop but I prefer the next tool for that.

Install Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools:
1 ) Go to Steam "Library" then down to "Tools"
2 ) Search the list for "Lef 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools"
3 ) Click on Install Game

Now to unpack VPK files you need VPK.exe :
Which just installed from running the "Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools:

4 ) Navigate to vpk.exe (see below)

5 ) Go to OS (C:)Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\bin

6 ) Right Click the vpk.exe and select "Create Shortcut"
7 ) Now drag the shortcut to your desktop.

11 ) Now drag the vpk 193820932 to your desktop.

12) Unpack by once again drag the vpk 193820932 on top of the vpk - Shortcut
You'll see a new root folder named 193820932 added to your desktop (see below)

Now open the root folder 193820932 to view it's 3 directories.

Build your Lemmco Sprayology™ Mod

Starting in Materials:

Logos directory is where yourspray.vft will be placed.
- Up to 16 Max as that is all our L4D2 Menu Spray List will hold.

Next you'll also need to create a name matching .vmt file

- Open this one above in VTFEdit make changes then rename as yourspray.vmt
Then save to the same directory.

Now lets look at Resource:

Multiplayer.res file has been customized already by Lemmers.

- The Spray Preview window is double in size. Import Spray has been moved down.
So you won't be doing anything in this file.

Next is Scripts:

Spray_manifest.txt file is where you organize the order in which sprays are listed in Menu.

- Open then Edit and save all changes with Notepad.
Left side is how you want spray names to appear in our L4D2 Menu.
Right side is yourspray.vft file names as you placed them in our Logos directory earlier.

Lastly the addoninfo:

Addoninfo.txt file is where you give the title of the mod, Credits to Authors & description.
- Open then Edit and save all changes with Notepad.

Repack your Lemmco Sprayology™ Mod
(If you know how to make VPK's skip this section go publish to the Workshop)

To repack VPK files you need VPK.exe:
Which we installed already by running the "Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools" earlier.

1 ) Recall when we unpacked vpk 193820932 it gave us the root folder with the same name.
Now just rename the root folder to whatever your going to call your mod.

2 ) Drag your renamed root folder on top of the vpk - Shortcut
Now it's packed as vpk for you to upload to the Workshop!
