Introduction

Version: acurate as of 07-march-2016

This guide is for people who want to play on expert mode and have a basic understanding of the Far Cry series. It has maximum efficiency in mind and may alter/lower your gameplay experience.

I tried to keep it simple. I tried to have more facts and less opinions. I'm only human.

Main differences from the FC series

* No currency. You craft all weapons and upgrades. The recipe to unlock the weapon will take some rare items but once unlocked crafting ammunition and replacement items is done from common materials.

* The AI on expert mode seems to be able to detect you from further and more readily than the hardest mode of previous FC games.

* The backpack is now compartmentalized. Each item has its own individual carry limit.

* "Hunter Vision" can now be used to track bleeding animals and detect various things in the game world.
PRO TIP: rare animals will leave a trail of yellow smoke behind them for tracking purposes while in hunter vision. This is exceedingly useful for obtaining rare pets and skins.

Spec'ing

I will leave it up to you to decide how to spec your character, suffice to say rushing the Sabretooth Tiger + riding skill and boosting your owl will make most situations much easier.
The Sabretooth Tiger (Game on easy mode)

There are two stages to this game. Before you have a ridable Sabretooth TIger (STT) and after you have a ridable STT.

1: It keeps you safe as a passive ability.
As you unlock companions predators will begin to flee from you. The more powerful your pet the more you will be left alone. Although the STT will keep you safe from most predators you can still come under threat from rhinos and mammoths, these animals will however be few and far enough between to be little bother and are easily outrun.

2: The STT is very fast.
There is alot of random events, predators and enemies which are very distracting at the start. Once you get this mount you can generally run right by everything without hinderance.
The Owl (Bases undetected)

It seems there are two camps regarding base assault. Loud and stealth.
I like to assault a base loud and still get the undetected bonus. Throughout the FC series you have been able to use explosives and allow bodies to be discovered while still claiming the undetected bonus. The crucial factor is: dont get seen.

There are less choices where weaponry is concerned, so now we have a bio/chem/incendiary bomber instead. The owl will tear apart a base in minutes and give you the undetected bonus. One bomb to make your enemies attack each other. One to one shot regular/elite enemies and two shot heavies and one bomb to just set fire to stuff.

B-2 Stealth Bomber meets M1A2 Battle Tank
The owl can be used to guide your pet for kills and clean up duty once your bombs are expended. The pet can be seen without compromising your stealth bonus.

Its not just for bases. The owl can generally tear up most missions as well.
Crafting breakdown

Mining skinning and woodcutting on easy mode: All these things can be done while mounted on the STT with maximum speed and minimal distraction.

The first few lines of items in your pack, that is common materials and herbs and so forth is for crafting your existing weapons, ammo and food items.

The rest of the extensive list of rocks/skins/wood is for crafting new weapon/ammo recipies and for buildings at your camp.

It looks intimidating at first but heres a simple breakdown:

Village resources:

Stuff you can get in the north

Stuff you can get in the middle

Stuff you can get in the south

The names conveniently contain the words north or south!!

There are generally two different mining node icons on the map you will come accross, primary nodes and auxillery nodes. In the north you will find the auxillery nodes are clay and in the south they will be for dust.

Rare skins:

Spend a good deal of time in hunter vision to detect rare animals and these will add up in no time. Use your pet to tank the animal and throw your spear from close range for high damage output.

Hope this was helpful =D

(Since you will anyway, long before you get near the end of the game) - though I'm sure there are players like me, who stagger their upgrades etc, and don't let the Sabertooth Tiger and owl win the game without the player doing anything.

I actually even waited to upgrade my weapons until I had used the previous ones for a little while - more for the appearance of them than anything... but the STT / Bloodfang / Owl are way, way, way too much of a cheat. Never used 'em in combat more than once when I realized I'd rather play the game than watch an animal play it for me. :fcp_sabre:

True FireNBrimstones. If I was to add a section on a game breaking weapon it would be about the spear!

Don't forget that the upgraded spear is your best melee weapon. You can throw the spear point blank and immediately pick it back up. Most effective range is one step from you, so you don't miss, but before the enemy can swing.

I can't upvote this since I bought the game via Uplay, not Steam, but the information about what exactly it means to do a base with "stealth" was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
