Lv. 30 Sustain Ranger Build (0.8.0)
By BlueSpider
This guide is based off using auto attacks and auto attack buffs to your advantage. The guide excels at keeping you alive and dishing out a lot of damage with drawbacks of dealing less overall damage andjust using spells and abilities that only target yourself.

I'm mainly gonna be looking at end game gear right now up until 30 use whatever gear you see fit for your ranger. No harm in experimenting!

*Note: Almost all the gear and spells in this guide requires max level Altar, Forge, Anvil, and Crafting Table as it is all End Game gear.

Introduction
Hi everyone,

BlueSpider here. I've been playing Portal Knights since the 2nd day it came out non-stop. I've taken a look at all the gear and decided which gear would be best for this guide. Please do note you can change anything up you want and there is no "best build" in portal knights. Have fun creating your own character and enjoying the game!

0.8.0 brought Massive buffs to this build. The talents are insane for it as well as gear choices. Really strong and usable build now in end game.

I will keep this guide up to date based on updates that come out later. Thanks!

*A ton of the items in this require max level on your Forge, Anvil, Crafting Table and Altar.

This guide is for advanced players only. I'm gonna assume you know how to get most gear without screenshots/direction on how to get it.

Enjoy the Guide!

-Blue

*Note: Anything in this guide can change at any time with little to no reason given. Keep that in mind when new updates come out (etc).

Gear
Lets get right out of the gate which what gear you want as this is nearly the most important aspect of the game. I will tell you what gear is specific to the build and give reasoning behind it as well. Please note most of the gear requires max level on your Anvil, Forge, and Crafting table. Again feel free to change anything up here you want to your liking!

I'm gonna first give you the short version of why this build is good. "Essentially each individual arrow can crit leading to a possibility of 3 crits per attack. If you stack crit chance and damage with the chest and hat that can restore health when you crit you can sustain for a long period of time due to enemies generally have a break period in between attacks and the Rangers base attack speed is pretty high."

Ranged Weapon: Hyperion the Titanium Long Bow
Quality Lv. - 30
Cost - 6 Titanium Bars, 10 Wonder Wool, 4 Cosmic Opal Dust
Stats - 200 Damage, +50% Critical Strike Damage, +10% Critical Strike Chance
Passive - Shoots 3 arrows per attack but at reduced overall flat damage.
Explanation: Large Critical Strike Chance and Damage, Paired with shooting 3 arrows at a time helps pop the heals on the Sharpshooter Tricorn and the Kings Brestplate. REMEMBER: each arrow can crit so you can get 3 procs of the heal every hit.

Melee Weapon:Titanium Ceremonial Dagger OR whatever you want.
Quality Lvs. - 30
Cost - Varies
Stats - Varies
Passive - Varies
Explanation: Dagger is great for move spped. Run what you want here if you even want to use a melee weapon.

Head: Sharpshooter Tricorn
Quality Lv. - 22
Cost - 5 Silk Cloth, 2 Gold Bars
Stats - 110 Armor
Passive - Boiling Blood - 30% Chance to restore 60 Health when inflicting a critical strike
Explanation - This is a fairly low level item able to be crafted at Quality Lv 22. For what it is it's very strong for a Ranger late game. The fact you can crit a max of 3 times per attack with the Titanium bow makes it for a large amount of healing possible over a fight.

Torso: Kings Breastplate
Quality Lv. - 27
Cost - 5 Titanium Bars, 4 Magic Fleece Cloth
Stats - 365 Armor
Passive - Rush - Restores 50 Health when inflicting a Critical Strike.
Explanation - The main reason this build works. You already have 3 chances to crit with your bow grouped with highish crit chance you can stay sustained for the better part of an entire fight. Overall honestly just the best Torso in the game.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=864121443

Legs: Kings Boots
Quality Lv. - 27
Cost - 5 Titanium Bars, 4 Magic Fleece Cloth
Stats - 270 Armor - +15% Critical Strike Chance, +50% Critical Strike Damage.
Explanation - Just again one of the best Legs in the game. Extra Crit Damage and Chance is just what you're looking for in gear.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=636333006

Arms: Captain's Gauntlets
Quality Lv. - 24
Cost - 2 Titanium Bars, 5 Magic Fleece clother
Stats - 65 Armor, +10% Dodge Chance
Explanation - After the Nerfs to Gloves of the Wicked in 0.8.0 stacking dodge chance is more worth while. Honestly use what gloves you want these ones are just the ones I like to use.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=864116857

Cape: Watchman Cape
Quality Lv. - 23
Cost - 6 Magic Fleece Cloth
Stats - +8% Critical Strike Chance, +16% Critical Strike Damage
Explanation: Again not much to explain it gives Crit stats which again are what you're looking for.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=636323257

Ring: Critical Ring of Fire
Quality Lv. - 12
Cost - 1 Iron Bar
Stats - 60 armor, +10% Fire Damage Resistance, +30% Critical Strike Damage, +10% Critical Strike Chance
Explanation: Good cheap ring. I contemplated this one and the level 30 one but this one just wins over with the crit. The fire resistance is just icing on top of the cake.

In conclusion you're generally looking for critical stats in your gear but again feel free to change up the gear to your liking.

Spells/Skills
Lets move along to what spells you want for this. As usual feel free to mix things up you your liking. I will follow the same format as gear for this. Zap and Planetary Strike skills (plus other skills) are obviously left out because there is no reason to use them due to lack of mana and cooldowns.

Healing II:
Cost to craft - Healing, 5 Flame Ruby Dust
Mana Cost - 170
Cooldown - 6 Seconds
Effect: Heals yourself for 40% health and jumps to another ally healing them for 20% health.
Explanation: Wow this actually took a prety hefty nerf since 0.3.0. It's still though the best ability I feel for what you need. It's mana efficent, cooldown efficent, and gives you what you need. You rarely use heals and this gives a nice amount of healing on its own. Essentially you should be using mana on mitigation/DPS increase abilities instead.

Recklessness:
Cost to Craft - 4 Flame Ruby Dust
Mana Cost - 80
Cooldown - 0 Seconds
Effect: Decreases received damage by 20% for 10 seconds. Strength increases effectiveness. Additonally flying foes around you fall to the ground and are stunned for 2 seconds.
Explanation: Not used very often but in tight situations it's not bad. Fairly useful mitigation and a nice stun on flying targets with a low mana cost. Overall a great ability.

Deafening Roar:
Cost to Craft - 4 Cosmic Opal Dust
Mana Cost - 80
Cooldown - 0 Seconds
Effect: Decreases Damage dealt by enemies within a certain range by 20% for 20 seconds. Strength increases effectiveness. Additonally flying foes around you fall to the ground and are stunned for 2 seconds.
Explanation: Another great tool that lasts for 20 seconds. The KEY difference is after you've killed all creatures affected you no longer receive to buff meaning unlike Recklessness use this more sparingly when in large groups of enemies.

War Cry:
Cost to Craft - 4 Angel's Diamond Dust
Mana Cost - 80
Cooldown - 0 Seconds
Effect: Increases Damage dealt by all friendly units in a range by 10% for 15 seconds. Strength increases effectiveness. Additonally flying foes around you fall to the ground and are stunned for 2 seconds.
Explanation: Your main DPS increase. You're going to want and try to keep this up at all times on hard fights.

Holy Bomb:
Cost to Craft - 6 Angels Diamond Dust
Damage - 154
Mana Cost - 360
Cooldown - 5 Seconds
Effect: Emits a burst of holy energy around you dealing holy damage and healing 6% health to friendly targets.
Explanation: Use this to take down Skeletal Mages.

That's it! Feel free to move spells around and such to your liking if needed!
Attributes
Overall go for what you think you need. Ill give brief run downs below and give reasonings behind them and what they're used for. Again pick what you want, but some attributes are definitley fairly useless.

Con - Constitution definitley is a welcome attribute. It's health gain is solid and definitley helps defend from burst damage specially on hard mode

Str - Strength is not a good choice for this build. Yoo rarely use melee weapons except for move speed and magic resist. I advise against putting any points into this.

Agi - Agility is a good overall perk. Being mobile can definitley help with dodging certain spells and attacks. How mobile you want to be is up to you but you are missing out on some damage scaling to many points into this

Dex - Dexterity is what you generally want. This build gives up damage for sustain. With Dexterity you scale a bit better into late game and hard mode. I'd advise against going all in on this however because you're giving up some possible bonus health and move speed.

Wis - Wisdom is not needed. Generally you won't need a ton of mana for a fight. Sure you use some damage buffing abilities but you shouldn't need the bonus mana from this. Spend points elsewhere.

Int - Intelligence is not a greaat pick either. Put points into Dex instead.

All in all damage and mobility, as well has health are all solid picks.
Talents
Another very important buff section. I will go through each ability and give you my thoughts. I'm going to try and follow the same format as before.

Patch 0.8.0 reworked the talent tree a bit. So I will go through the talents again below. 0.8.0 brough insane buffs to this build talent wise.

Yes = Good choice
Maybe = Possible choice - Alright talent
No = Bad choice
* = The talent you should choose for this build.

Level 2 talents:
*Bow Specialization - Yes
Crossbow Specialization - No
Sling Specialization - No
Explanation: You use bows for this build.

Level 5 talents:
Sentry Stance - Maybe
*Fading - Yes
Explanation: Sentry stance is definitley good for the DPS increase but later in the game you will be forced to move on a lot of fights. Fading gives you an insane Dodge chance for 10 seconds, which in turn increases your survivability. Take Fading.

Level 10 talent:
*Dodge Chance - Yes
Evasive Maneuver - Maybe
Explanation: Due to the nerf to gloves of the wicked dodge chance is good to spec into now. Evasive is a good talent, but honestly I'd rather have more sustain over a moderate speed increase.

Level 15 talents:
*Potion Mastery - Yes
Explanation: Only talent you can take at this level. Good for Hard Mode fights.

Level 20 talents:
*Orb Thief - YES
Dodger - No
Unstable - No
Explanation: Your entire build is built around what orb thief does. Another chance to gain health back is fantastic. Other ones are fine but not for this build.

Level 25 talents:
Sharp Shooter - No
*Cheat Death - Yes
In the Face of Evil - Maybe
Explanation: Sharp Shooter isnt the best for this build due to the 3 arrows. In the Face of Evil is a solid DPS increase. Cheat Death is really good for slef sustain. It allows you to make a mistake and still stay alive. Rather have thaty in this build then more DPS.

Level 30 talents:
Combo Swing - No
Exploit Weakness - Maybe
Survival Instincts - Yes
Explanation: Survival Instinct procs each crit essentially. While Exploit Weakness is still good take Survival Instincts over it.
Flasks/Potions
Lets dive into flasks. I personally find these annyoing to use due to lack of action bar slots but feel free to use them if you want. Only a few are really needed/usable by Rangers.

Star Flask:
Cost to Craft - 4 Star Water, 8 Jelly Berry - Can also be looted off Mobs.
Effect - Increase Strength, Agility, and Int for 20% for 2 Minutes.
Explanation - Good overall damage, health, and mana increase.
Cooldown - 120 seconds
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=675272130

Ranged Damage Flask:
Cost to Craft - 4 Flammable Liquid, 8 Night Pin - Can also be looted off Mobs.
Effect - Increases Ranged Damage by 30% for 2 minutes
Explanation - Damage increase.
Cooldown - 120 Seconds
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=675277256

Armor Flask:
Cost to Craft - 4 Fire Spirit, 8 Ice Rose - Can Also be looted off Mobs.
Effect - Increases Armor by 30% for 2 Minutes.
Explanation - More damage mitigation.
Cooldown - 120 Seconds
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=675279083

Magic Protection Flask:
Cost to Craft - 4 Fire Spirit, 8 Agave - Can also be looted off Mobs.
Effect - Reduces Spell damage taken by 30% for 2 minutes
Explanation - GREAT against bosses. You essentially need this for HM bosses.
Cooldown - 120 Seconds.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=675280817

Feel free to use the other flasks as well. I just felt like these were the most important ones as the others are highly situational.
Tips
A few Basic tips to explain the guide a bit better.

1. Each arrow individually can crit. So you can get a ton of healing!

2. Being closer to your target makes it so all 3 arrows hit. Be careful though!

3. The level 30 Boss can drop recipes for the Titanium Bow and some extra great weapons

4. if you're lacking Titanium go farm the level 30 Boss as he can drop bars as well as ore.

5. The Lunar Zone resists Platinum gear so you WILL deal reduced damage there. Be careful when leveling.

6. Potions can be used to enhance some skills. i didn't bother making a section for them because they're such a hassle to make every 2 minutes and you don't need to use them AT ALL at this point in the game.
Hard Mode
Hardmode is defintiley where this set can shine due to its high survivability. Somethings definitley need to change up though due to the burst the bosses have.

Swap Kings Boots for Paladin Legs - This offers defense against burst with the 25% magic resist.

Use Magic Protection Flasks as needed - Again defends from the burst. Allows you to face tank some abilities.

All in all stack some magic resist to beat Hard Mode.

Thanks to Dr Robotnik in the comment section for reminding me to update the guide for Hard Mode and telling me what gear he uses because unfortunatley I don't play the game as much but would love to keep this guide updated.

@|\|€no.
The "Hyperion the Titanium Long Bow" shoots 3 arrows instead of one, so crits and procs can happen for each arrow shot.
neno1231 Jul 1, 2017 @ 6:49am
how do i hit 3 time per 1 arrow?
BlueSpider  [author] Jun 8, 2017 @ 6:34am
@DIGIT

It's a fairly outdated guide. I'll work on updating it as soon as possible. This was designed when the game first came out and is still viable if you run some magic resist and stuff on later bosses. It's a little hard to test now because I'm not up to date on certain gear and crafting materials.

I find sustained builds nice when leveling from 24 to 30 n cthris dungeon/lv30 islands since u can just keep attacking while getting attacked. tried on the electric worm and the dragon but they just deal too much damages they either shot u or miss u so id rather full damage on the lv35 bosses but is really cool guide! thanks for sharing :D

@Dr Robotnik

Thanks for letting me know. I updated the Guide and gave you credit for the info you provided. I don't play as much so I haven't been as active on this guide, but I definitley want to keep it updated for other players!

to adapt this to HM bosses, swap for paladins legs and use a magic resist pot.
