How To Build Exciting Rides that Guests Will Actually Like
By Stancats
For many scenarios you need to build roller coasters with a certain "excitement rating", however, if the ride has too high of an "intensity rating", guests will be too afraid to ride it. Here is my guide for how to build exciting rides and beat tricky levels

Introduction
Several Scenarios, notably in the Loopy Landscapes Expansion, require you to have exciting roller coasters. If you want to beat these scenarios, you will need these tips and tricks to build the best roller coasters.

I'm not going to lie to you, I don't like to build roller coasters. I am really terrible at it, and it is my least favorite part of the game. Most of my homemade coasters crash before I guests can even ride them. How then, do you ask, did I manage to beat these scenarios? (Okay, of the scenarios pricured I only beat Razor Rocks) Read on to learn my tips and tricks!
Money Management
Building roller coasters is expensive, so it is important to build a profitable park, and manage your money properly (check out my guide to making money for more info).

I will have several "less exciting" coasters such as Crazy Caterpillar that are always big money makers. This is expecially important in parks where you cannot charge a park entrance fee. Remember, not all of you money needs to go towards finishing the coasters, put it towards making profit first.
Excitement, Intensity, and Nausea
When you build a new coaster, you will need to check out its excitement, intensity, and nausea levels. You generally want the excitement level to be high, but the intensity and nausea levels to be lower (less than 6).

You can check out these levels for each new ride, once a few guests have ridden on it. You CANNOT get these levels by just testing the ride, you have to open it and guests have to experience it for the feedback levels.

Check each individual ride by clicking on it, choosing the timer clock tab, and looking at the stats:

You can also check the potential levels of a ride (excluding custom made rides) before you buy it:

In my experience, the actual levels of the ride turn out to be lower, especially if you have saved the track design.
Saving Track Designs
I mentioned before that I hate building my own roller coasters...Its just too stressful. One of the ways I "cheat" this is by saving track designs for really good coasters that are already present in the scenario parks when I start them.

In the steam version, I found that this was already done, but the coasters have coded names, so i can't really remember what they. I like to re-save my favorites with their correct names (a.k.a. the name they were given, rather than U38278306786) so that I know what I am building.

For example, In the park Diamond Heights, The Dynamite Blaster has a high excitement rating. I want to steal this track design, and use it to beat the park Razor Rocks.

To do this I click on the roller coaster so that its detail window pops up. then I click on the floppy disc icon in the top right and "Save Track Design".
Note: To do this you MUST have the ride's mini "detail" window open, and the ride MUST have a name. The game will not allow you to save "Roller Coaster 1".

Tip: When I move Dynamite Blaster to a different park, it's excitement raiting will drop, becuase they ride will no longer have underground parts. I overcame this by raising a bit of land so that parts of the coaster were underground.
Modifying Existing Coasters
Some roller coasters, such as the Wooden Crazy Rodent Roller Coaster already have a high excitement level. (eg. Easy way to beat razor rocks)

However, not all coasters have an exciting track already included. I take existing coasters and modify them, one section at a time, until I have an exciting coaster!

An easy example is when I added chain lifts to the beginning flat portion of "Crazy Vole", so that it won't get stuck all the time!

How To Increase Excitement
Finally, my quick tips for increasing excitement! Excitement is increased by adding changing features to a ride. The guests want to experience a variety of different things throughout their ride.

1. Add different ride features, for example, if a roller coaster type allows for different inversions, you need to switch it up, don't use the same barrel roll all the time. Clearly, I don't have a lot of experience with this, as I hate building roller coasters, but here is an example, "Grapevine" from the park "Funtopia" with three different features highlighted (crappy red arrows):

______________________________________________________________________________
2. Add a water feature. Put part of the ride over water. Not the whole ride, because we are looking for variety here. This is pretty easy to do, but make sure you have enough money to move the land down one notch and move water up one notch. You can even add the water fountains for an extra spiffy touch (not pictured).

______________________________________________________________________________
3. Put part of the ride underground. I achieve this by modufying existing rides in order to increase their excitement raiting. However, make sure you have enough money to move the land before you start to build you ride! I will usually build the coaster and run it as is to earn more moeny until I have enough to move the land and modify it. Here is a modified portion of "Flight of the Phoenix":
______________________________________________________________________________
4. Finally, although I talk extensively about not doing this in my guide to making money, you can increase the excitement by adding scenery and theming around the ride. After you have added a certain number of scenery objects the excitement raiting will cease to increase, and I find that this will differ for each ride. Make sure you research scenery/theming before you can do this! As an example, here is the Bumbly Beach roller coaster that was stolen by space aliens(How Exciting!):
Final Remarks
I hope that this guide offers you some good tips so you can finally beat those seemingly unattainable parks! The most important thing to remember is that you need to build a profitable park and earn a large amount of money before you can modify roller coasters, move the land around, and add a bunch of scenery and theming objects.

Remember that you should test each modified coaster to make sure it doesn't crash before you allow guests to ride it. When I do this, I like to space out separate trains a lot more than I would in normal operation (maybe 12 seconds apart) so that if the ride is going to crash I can quickly double click the red traffic light button which will reset the ride so it doesn't crash.

I find that Arid Heights, the park free of finances, is the best park to practice building roller coasters, and perhaps saving some of your own track designs for later.

You actually can get the excitement/intensity/nausea ratings by just testing. It just takes longer. I find that it has to run all the way through a few times before the numbers pop up.

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS CONSTRUCTING EXISTING ROLLER COASTERS AND RIDES. IT SAYS CANNOT CONSTRUCT HERE BUT IT DOESNT SAY WHY. VERY FRUSTRATING.

I've been playing since RTC came out, and I never build a pre-built. I have no idea why anyone would want to play the game if you weren't going to build roller coasters yourself. I just wish there were more "finish the coaster with X excitement rating maps", or the "you can't delete trees/ do earthworks", because those are the only ones that pose any challenge

Interesting someone mentions no completely underground coasters... The advantage they have is that peeps will ride them if it rains.

I have to say I rarely ever build my own tracks but I remember reading this and I do remember some of the tips in here and they do help when I feel like building something so thank you!

It used to be my least favorite part but now that I have learned how to do it, I love it a lot. Tho I don't usually make more than one unique design per scenario.
The most important tip is that you actually can make good coasters, and you have what it takes, you just need a couple pointers and some practice. Keep trying and you WILL get good!

Due to character limits I can't actually post any useful tips in any detail.

TL;DR: Go see Marcel Vos's video on youtube for this. Please watch this and his video on reducing intensity. And maybe his 42 tips for scenario play too if you've got the time. Coaster building can be fun I promise! You can do it!:goldvein:

Oh, I forgot to mention, you add a lot of scenery near the ride to boost it's rating.
Aoi Blue Feb 16, 2021 @ 6:40am
On the underground. You need a very particular part underground to boost rating.

Too much underground will reduce rating more than none underground.

yes you can get the ratings from test. have the test go two complete cycles with all the cars and you will see the numbers

So this is a very old tactic I used to use alot. I'll go online and find rollercoasters people uploaded.
