Duke Fishron: The Ultimate Guide!

Duke Fishron a sick looking boss, not only is he hard but he drops Godly like loot, tired of not being able to defeat him? Tired of not knowing anything about him? Introduction to Duke Fishron!

Duke Fishron can be quite a pain if you know nothing about him or have the right weapons, he's one of the most unique bosses available in the game. Why I say that you ask? Not only do you have to fight him in the ocean or near it which will make the fight more difficult, but the insane HP and deadly attacks you may have to kite/stay away from. As i've said before he's quite a unique boss he looks just like another mob in the game itself the Pigron[terraria.gamepedia.com] As a matter of fact the developers of the game seem to have used the Pigron as base for the Duke Fishron as he appears to be heavily based on the Pigron. Duke FIshron wasn't implemented into the game in the well known 1.3 update as a matter of fact, therefore he has a large history and players are more familiar with him rather than the new implemented bosses added in the 1.3 update.

Duke Fishron's History:

1.3.0.1: Now Drops Treasure Bag in Expert Mode.
A third stage and attack type is also implemented when fighting him in Expert Mode.
Now becomes enraged when leaving the ocean.
Given a new death sprite.

1.2.4.1: Now drops Greater Healing Potions instead of Lesser Healing Potions.
All of Fishron’s weaponry now sells for 5 gold coins. This will fix the low reforge costs.
Only one Duke Fishron can be summoned at a time. The bobber will not bob if one is already alive.

Duke Fishron may be a difficult Hard Mode boss with it's insane HP and attacks, now that we're into that let's review it's health, and don't worry it's not a crazy number like 100,000 thought it's still a eye cathing number phrase. Duke Fishrons total HP on Normal Mode (50,000.) Duke Fishrons total HP on Expert Mode (60,000.)

Duke Fishron's Attacks/Defense/Inmunity/Summon!

Duke Fishron's attacks can be deadly if not carrying the right armor, or weapons he's also immune to various attacks, as he also has a good number of defense which makes the fight difficult.

Duke Fishron: Info!

Duke Fishron is one of the hardest bosses available in the game, therefore the player must be COMPLETELY prepared to face this mutant water pig. Duke Fishron is summoned by using the Truffle Worm as said earlier with any fishing pole in either of the to oceans (Located at the end of the map, East, West.) In the other hand he can also be summoned in an ocean of lava near the edge of the world with Hotline Fishing Rod. The Truffle Worm serves as the bait used to summon the Duke Fishron, the Truffle Worm is a rare critter that must be caught with the Bug Net or Golden Bug Net in an underground Mushroom Biome. Once the bobber on your Fishing Pole bobs, Duke Fishron will emerge above the point where the bobber was and pause for a moment before lunging at the player, therefore giving players a small window of time to back away. The Duke Fishron doesn't require any other specific boss to be defeated, but the world MUST be in hardmode in order for the Truffle Worm to spawn. Once you've defeated Duke Fishron you'll instantly get the Achievement "Fish Out Of Water".

The Battle!

To start off with this it is NOT recommended at ALL to run away/fly away from the ocean biome while fighting the majestic Duke Fishron, as he'll eventually become en-raged and most likely beat you down as he deals double the damage and has double the defense. A very good defense strategy that doesn't require many rare items would be to craft 2 Gravitation Potions, and have around 70 defense, acquire the Terra Blade and some accesories upgraded to Warding. Simply activate one potion and repeat moving from the top of the map to the sea level while swinging the Terra Blade and damaging him. When Duke Fishron reaches stage 2, the player must try to avoid moving too far away from the boss at it will make it despawn. To do so, whike the boss uses one the spells that makes him stand still, gravity must be inverted. Using this method and some acceptable dodging skills, the player should be to take out the boss in a maximum of 5 minutes. Withouth having to farm any Key Molds, it is a very general and effective way of taking down Duke Fishron. To defeat him with minimal damage, have some Greater Healing Potions prepared, decent defense (60 or above), and Vampire Knives. Vampire Knives and 60 defense aren't needed if the player has high DPS (Damage Per Second) Magic weapons. With the Spectre Hood set, it's best to use high DPS magic weapons instead of Vampire Knives. It is also best to get a Hoveboard or build a skybridge with asphalt blocks. Do not start using the healing potions before it is enraged. While the boss is charging shoot towards him with Vampire Knives, while moving away from him with a Hoverboard or skybridge. This works quite well as the Hoverboard is almost as fast as Duke Fishron himself. It is important to keep moving away while shooting when the boss is shooting bubbles or the sharknado attack, as it spares more time for the player to heal. When enraged, the player might find it a bit harder to avoid it's attacks, thus allowing the greater healin potions to come in handy.

Another strategy that is very simple, is to acquire the Piranha Gun and simply kite him around on an asphalt surface. Preferably about 2,000 blocks long, with decent dodging, high defense and a couple of healt potions in reserve, the fight is easy!


Once the Flairon is obtained, the battle can be over in seconds. Just keep running away or avoiding the boss while shooting the Flairon towards the boss, and the battle should be won in about 30 seconds or less. Withouth the need to heal.

All in all Duke Fishron can be quite easy with the right skills and this guide you'll dominate him to the point he'd left Terraria for good.

The third stage is easy enough that most guides skip it. He is just teleporting behind you so you need ONLY wings and Shield Of Cthulhu/Master Ninja Gear/Tabi. The 3rd stage is the EASIEST ONE. lol
