Savegame Backups - Restore your Progress
By Chairman Meow
These two batchfiles allow you to quickly backup and restore your saves whenever you exit the game.
This way you can have in between saves when ever you like which you can go back to after you get killed or made a bad decision.

Introduction
Hi, this is my first Steam Guide ever.
Some people probably won't like it since it takes out the whole hardcore aspect of the game but this is not for those people anyway.

I wanted to play the new arena mode with better gear and as I obviously suck at the game I never managed to get to Expert without getting killed.

So I wrote some quick batch files to automatically backup and restore your Exanima savegames.
Main
IMPORTANT: These are not very user friendly, and will only work for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10 I think but you can try with earlier windows versions.
You also need to QUIT the game before you run the Backup file since the game keeps the data in memory until you exit it.
Restoring it should be possible by going to the Main Menu, taskswitching and running the Restore file.

What you need to do is the following:
Open your favorite text editor and paste this code into an empty textfile:

XCOPY "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Exanima\*.rsg" "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Exanima\Backup"

Save the file as ExanimaBackup.bat (or any other name really as long as you put the .bat at the end) on your desktop.

Now do the same with this line:

XCOPY "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Exanima\Backup\*.rsg" "%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Exanima\"

and save it as ExanimaRestore.bat (or any other name really as long as you put the .bat at the end) on your desktop.

Now you can play and when you reach a point where you want to have a savegame after you get killed, you quit the game and start the ExanimaBackup.bat.
This will copy all .rsg files to a Backup folder (the first time you run it, it will ask you if the Backup directory is a file or directory, choose directory so it will automatically create the Backup folder)

Now when you get killed in the Arena or got any other reason to return to your last Backup, just double click the ExanimaRestore.bat and it will ask you to overwrite the original savegames (if you got killed it will not since the savegames get deleted when your character dies and you quit the game).

I know this could be way more user friendly with multiple backups and some choices but it does what it should and I hope some of you guys appreciate it.

Have fun and smash some stuff!

Hijacking your guide to let everyone know I made a free desktop app that manages your save files in a few easy clicks! It's called Salvus: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3105730864

This is completely safe for anyone that doesn't understand batch files, it's the equivalent of copying the files from the backup folder to the save folder and replacing it or vice versa.

This look like a slight complicated but acceptable method for returning your last saved.

Mine are bit simple, just when to "Local disk > User > Admin > Appdata > Roaming > Exanima
* (Remember this area, will need to come back later, and let's called the "Main Save")
Then Copy:
Arena001.rgs
Exanima.Set (Not sure this one is needed but copy anyway)
Then paste it into your "New Folder" from your Desktop (Let's call the New Folder > "Slot 1")

After that, let's say you lost or killed at the arena and you wish to go back. Exit back to the "Menu", Alt-tab to the desktop.
Now copy those two files again in your "Slot 1" then paste it at the "Main save" and replace it, and Voila, you're not dead, ready to go again.

(the guy that made the comment about "cheating", has VAC bans on record) xD

Honestly, I recommend anyone new to this game, to save scum. The fighting system takes practice, and having to start completely from scratch every time you slightly mess up and/or otherwise get murdered/trapped, isn't all that fun. A "Hardcore" mode probably should have been optional for this kind of game, while having the normal game be "savepoint only" saving, so you're forced to beat long'ish sections at a time before you can save, to prevent save abuse.

Can't be arsed to do it but it's pretty justified with how buggy exanima can be

Is the reason for items getting randomized due to the bat not copying .rcp files as well? Is there anything else being forgotten? Seems like this guide needs rewritten.

this gamer made Exanima more bearable with this one weird trick (devs hate him)
