The Guide to Buddy Icons

This is a guide showing every "Unlockable Buddy Icon" you can unlock. This guide is also meant to give information about each and every icon allowing you to discover them if not looking at those all of those different specials scenes and yet still not understanding them.

Be aware of minor spoilers. Will be updated as more "Icons" are added by the developer.

Introduction

Q: What in the world are these Buddy Icons and what do they do exactly?

A: These "Buddy Icons" give unique dialogue at the start of Chapter 1. The dialogue will be affected by what icon you choose in "2002" & "Secret (?)", but note that these icons will only affect you for the beginning of Chapter 1.

This guide identifies every known "Buddy Icon" as of "Update 2 of Unlockable Icons". Generally, a few of these aren't all known to the community and regardless are well-known references by the general public; so forward a small description is also provided. Currently there are 5 pages of icons equaling 60 with more to come possibly.

All links will either lead to the corresponding games series/game or whatever major figure it is associated with if it has one such as the Band, "Coldplay" or the "Bioshock series".

Buddy Icon Entry

You begin "Chapter 1" with a screen asking for your "Screenname" & "First Name", this is where you will input your desired entry for whichever icon you want.

These methods below will also work if you enter it in as "First Name", but any value put inside "Screenname" will always be granted instead of "First Name".
Screenname: Steam / First Name: Kingdomheart - Unlocks Team Fortress 2

1. In any case, you can also unlock the icon with any given variation of the name such as:
Screenname: kinGdomHEart - Unlocks Kingdom Hearts

2. People have noticed that there are different Screennames that can also unlock the icon such as:
Screenname: Steam - Unlocks Team Fortress 2
Others that could work would be: "Team" or "Hearts" - "Lambda" or even "Kitty"

If you honestly don't wish to do that 60 times, which I could understand.
You can enter in password123 as your Screenname to unlock everything.

Buddy Icons: Part 1

1. Coldplay[coldplay.com] - British Rock Band formed in 1996. They have won 8 Brit Awards and 7 Grammy Awards (30 Nominations) with other countless awards as well. This icon was used by Emily in Chapter 1: 2002
   
   
2. Good Charlotte[goodcharlotte.com] - American Rock band formed in 1996. They have won 4 different MTV Awards.
   
   
3. Travis - Travis's Icon from "Emily is Away". Appears to be a "Surfer"
   
   
4. Brad - Brad's Icon from "Emily is Away". Appears to show a "Bunny"
   
   
5. Robot Loves Kitty - Developer of "Legend of Dungeon", a "randomly generated action RPG Beat'em'up with heavy Rogue-like elements, striking visuals, and dynamic music."
   
   
6. ChilledChaos's Avatar - Youtuber CriousGamers. Just Chaos in his avatar, but what happens when you add "Chilled" to Chaos?
   
   
7. HJTenchi[www.twitch.tv] - A well known Twitch Streamer. Fancy avatar of him facing sideways.
   
   
8. Kappa - A Twitch meme, that resembles a "smug looking human face" when typed into Twitch chat. It is meant to be put at the end of a sentence meaning you "aren't serious". Now it seems to have spread to other places.
   
   
9. Issac - The iconic main character Issac from "The Binding of Isaac". This is a "randomly generated action RPG shooter with heavy Rogue-like elements."
   
   
10. Triforce[www.zelda.com] - The Triforce symbol (Golden Power) from the Zelda Series by Nintendo.
    
    
11. Minecraft[minecraft.net] - Featuring a "Grass Block" from Minecraft by Mojang. A sandbox game, where you craft stuff to survive and build grand castles to only then gaze and marvel upon afterwards, Do I really need to write this? Doesn't everyone know what Minecraft is? (Some people don't know what Minecraft is, I guess)
    
    
12. Lambda Half-life - The Lambda symbol λ (11th Greek Letter with a value of 30, lowercase version) from the Half-life Series by Valve. Confirmed γ, Gamma.

Buddy Icons: Part 2 (Games)

1. Vault 111 - Vault 111 from Fallout 4 by Bethesda, where your character first begins.
   
   
2. Vault Symbol[borderlandsthegame.com] - The Vault Symbol from the Borderlands series by 2K & Gearbox. These are hidden throughout the games by the developers.
   
   
3. Rapture[www.2kgames.com] - The City of Rapture's (An Underwater City) Symbol from the Bioshock Series by 2K & Irrational Games.
   
   
4. Dota - Dota's symbol, which seems to resemble just the map of Dota. Top and Bottom are Factions, "Radiant & Dire" and the middle is the river.
   
   
5. Cibele - Cibele, which is a game about love, sex, and the internet. Based on a true story. From Star Maid Games, they think you should really try out this game.
   
   
6. Actual Sunlight - "Actual Sunlight", a short interactive story about love, depression and the corporation. From Will O'Neill.
   
   
7. The Walking Dead - "The Walking Dead", comic to award-winning TV Series to 2012 Game of the Year. Yes, it about zombies, buut far more than only walking.
   
   
8. Stanley Parable - Man in a Suit, Stanley. "Stanley Parable" is where you play the game, but you don't play the game, brought to you by Galactic Cafe, but not brought to you by Galactic Cafe.
   
   
9. Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball - A disco ball. In "Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball", you "race around a neon-lit skate park and nail each other with bouncy glowing projectiles" called disco balls. From our beloved Erik Amussen.
   
   
10. Elegy for a Dead World - "Explore dead civilizations, write about what you find, and share your stories with the universe: a game about writing fiction." From the inspirational developers Dejobaan Games, LLC, and Popcannibal.
    
    
11. JobBot[jobsimulatorgame.com] - "Job Simulator 2050", a game which is where you virtually though the VR and Oculus, actually work. Sounds a bit tedious.
    
    
12. Mushroom 11 - Looks like a muffin, its honestly not even a mushroom. In "Mushroom 11", "mold yourself into any form by destroying your cells, and traverse a devastated landscape filled with brain-twisting puzzles and bizarre mutations."

Buddy Icons: Part 3 (Music)

1. Coheed and Cambria[www.coheedandcambria.com] - is an American progressive rock and alternative rock band from Nyack, New York, formed in 1995.
   
   
2. Nine Inch Nail[nin.com] - (abbreviated NIN; stylized as NIИ) is an American industrial rock band, founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor in Cleveland, Ohio. Nominated twice into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" and winning 2 Grammies (13 Nominations).
   
   
3. Radiohead[www.radiohead.com] - Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. Voted 2nd Best Artists of the 2000s by "Rolling Stone" and winning 3 Grammies (18 Nominations). (Caution for entering their Website)
   
   
4. Death from Above 1979[www.deathfromabove1979.com] - Canadian rock duo of Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler from Toronto, Ontario.
   
   
5. The Prodigy[www.theprodigy.com] - an English electronic music group from Braintree, Essex, formed by Liam Howlett in 1990. They were nominated for a Grammy twice and winning 2 Brit Awards.
   
   
6. Daft punk[www.daftpunk.com] - are an electronic music duo consisting of French musicians "Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo" and "Thomas Bangalter" formed 1993. They have won 1 Brit Award and 6 Grammy Awards (12 Nominations).
   
   
7. Interpol[interpolnyc.com] - is an American rock band from New York City formed by Daniel Kessler and Greg Drudy in 1997. They reached 10th position on the NME's list of top albums in 2002 as well as No. 1 on Pitchfork Media's Top 50 Albums of 2002.
   
   
8. The Strokes[thestrokes.com] - is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1998. Their albums have reached the top of Rolling Stones' Top 10 album twice (Respectively #8 and #2) and #4 on NME's Top 500 Albums.
   
   
9. Modest Mouse[modestmouse.com] - is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington. The founding members of this group are lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. They have had one Grammy nomination.
   
   
10. Snow Patrol[snowpatrol.com] - are a Northern Irish rock band formed in 1993. They have won 7 Meteor Irish awards while be nominated for 6 Brit Awards and a Grammy Award.
    
    
11. ArcadeFire[arcadefire.com] - are a Canadian indie rock band based in Montreal founded in 2001 by Win Butler and Josh Deu. They have won a Grammy Award (9 Nominations), 2 Brit Awards, and 6 Juno Awards.
    
    
12. Sigur Ros[www.sigur-ros.co.uk] - are an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, who have been active since 1994. Some of Sigur Rós songs are in Hopelandic ("Vonlenska" is the non-literal language that forms the unintelligible lyrics sung by the band on some songs), but most are sung in Icelandic. Buddy Icons: Part 4 (Update 1)

1. Freddy Fazear - Freddy Fazbear from the "Five Nights at Freddy's" series created by Scott Cawthon.
   
   
2. Morrowind - The symbol first used in "Elder Scrolls: Morrowind" and later again for "Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" from Bethesda. Represents a "Dragon".
   
   
3. Rooster/Chicken[hotlinemiami.com] - The "Rooster/Chicken", Richard from the Hotline Miami series. Created by the murderous fine gentlemen at Devolver Digital.
   
   
4. Undertale Flower - Pacifist Simulator Undertale, where you don't have to destroy anything or person. "In this RPG, you control a human who falls underground into the world of monsters. Now you must find your way out... or stay trapped forever. " Created by tobyfox for Pacifists from Pacifists the common folks.
   
   
5. Crash Bandicoot - The main protagonist of the Crash Bandicoot series from developer Naughty Dog. (No website is provided is because there isn't one, for more information visit this page Log)
   
   
6. Kingdom Hearts[www.kingdomhearts.com] - A Heart with a Key in the middle representing the "Kingdom Key" to "Kingdom Hearts" of the Kingdom Hearts series, which is a massive heart. Brought to life by Square Enix.
   
   
7. Kinda Funny Face - Youtube channel, "Kinda Funny" ran by Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty, Nick Scarpino and Tim Gettys.
   
   
8. Jack Septic Eye - Seán William McLoughlin, an Irish YouTube game commentator known by his pseudonym Jacksepticeye.
   
   
9. Doge - Internet Meme consisting of a "Shiba Inu" with muticolored text in Comic Sans font with text wrote in a type of broken English in 2013, which started to become popular late 2013.
   
   
10. Kreygasm - Another meme to have originated from Twitch. It is meant to show an " intense emotion" similar to an orgasm as stated by the Urban Dictionary entry.
    
    
11. Poké Ball[www.pokemon.com] - The iconic original "Poké Ball" from Pokémon. Used to hold a Pokémon either already caught or to capture one. Caught by Nintendo for you to enjoy.
    
    
12. Transatlanticism[deathcabforcutie.com] - The fourth studio album by indie rock band "Death Cab for Cutie", released on October 7, 2003. It depicts a Crow with red string looped around it. This album reached #97 on U.S. Billboard Top 200. They have also been nominated for 7 Grammy Awards.

Buddy Icons: Part 5 (Update 2)

1. Rust - The Rust symbol is simply a stylized radioactive hazard symbol. Developer Facepunch Studios always only wanted you to survive or at least die hard trying.
   
   
2. Team Fortress 2 - The Team Fortress 2 Symbol, the 4 pieces mean Team forming a "Fortress". If look at the symbol and see the open spaces as doorways it actually appears like a fortress. Thanks Valve for adding the "2".
   
   
3. Portal 2 - Portal 2 icon showing a Blue and Orange Figure. Valve has shown you the future "for now".
   
   
4. GTA Vice City - GTA Vice City Icon from the well renowned Grand Theft Auto series by Rockstar.
   
   
5. Dodger's Avatar - Pacifist Youtuber, PressHeartToContinue. She played this game :D, her avatar is probably herself with rainbow hair, but anyways... Coffee?
   
   
6. PewDiePie's Avatar - Youtuber, PewDiePie. He tried this game out as well. His avatar is a demented melting groaning in pain purple bulldog.
   
   
7. SSundee's Avatar - Youtuber, SSundee. Another one. His avatar is a over exaggeration of his beard in Minecraft form with black shades and a bright smile! Such keys to success!
   
   
8. Squeezie's Avatar - French Youtuber, Squeezie. He understands the feels of this game. Its just an "S", oh does it mean "Espoir"?!
   
   
9. Clippy - "Clippy was the default and by far the most notable Assistant (partly because in many cases the setup CD was required to install the other assistants), which also led to it being called simply the Microsoft Paperclip. The original Clippy in Office 97 was given a new look in Office 2000." Later on it became a meme for its nuisance. Thanks Wikipedia " ".
   
   
10. Nyan Cat[www.nyan.cat] - "Nyan Cat is the name of a YouTube video, uploaded in April 2011, which became an Internet meme. The video merged a Japanese pop song with an animated cartoon cat with the body of a Pop-Tart, flying through space, and leaving a rainbow trail behind it. The video ranked at number 5 on the list of most viewed YouTube videos in 2011." Nyan Cat later spawned mutiple variations as to such a Pikachu with lighting to Waffle Cat. 11. John Cena - This Meme refers to the video clip where an announcer announces WWE wrestler John Cena loudly along with his intro music. The meme become widely popular after being used in Vine to produce either a humorous effect or jumpscare at the end. Later on it has become many things.
    
    
12. Avenged Sevenfold (A7X)[www.avengedsevenfold.com] - is an American heavy metal band from Huntington Beach, California, formed in 1999. They have won numerous awards from Golden God Awards, Loudwire Music Awards, and Kerrang! Awards making them a very successful metal band.

Commentary

We had fun writing this, all the while adding little snips of what you may find funny, the moment you understand it. We took time on thinking what to put into the that small little huge space and as well as how to make this guide's appearance suitable for a long list that would only grow larger.

The only thing wrong is that (not trying to rain on your parade because I only know this being the worlds biggest fan) but Five Nights at Freddy's isn't called Five Nights with Freddy and Freddy Bear is actually called Freddy Fazbear. But that is totally okay. Do you want us to friend each other? It is ok if you don't want to.
