Call of Juarez - Fix (Englisch Version)

This is the english Version of "(b)WolfBelmi88(6)" Guide to fix the Problems many people have with Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.

I bought the game in the Winter sales and wanted to try it out today. I read that i'm not the only one having these problems so i hope this will help you all!

As Kaldire pointed out in the comments, since the game got a hotfix for higher resolutions and stuff this all might not be necessary anymore. I'll still keep the Guide up just in case.

Step 1 - Compability Mode

The game seems to have problems to run with Systems that use OS higher than Vista SP2. (Thats what i found out during my Internet research so far)
So our first step will be to start the game in Compability mode.

1. To do this we have to edit the CoJBiBGame_x86.exe.

You can find it in your Steam folder like : Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood

2. Once you've found it you right click it and switch to the "Compability" register. There you place your checkmarks.

- Mode of compability -> execute Program in mode of compability -> Windows Vista SP2
- Run the Program as an administrator
- Allow the program to work with onedrive (Not necessary, i dont even have that option)

Then you apply and accept and close the Window.

Step 2 - changing the resolution

To change the ingame resolution you have to go into the game directory that should be something like this:

"Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood\CoJ2\Out\Settings"

Just look for the Settings directory in your installtation folder. Could be a little different.

There you go for the Video.scr file and open it with the editor. If you cant open it directly with open with editor, just open the editor, switch from only txt. to all files and open in manually.

Inside the file you search for the term Resolution and edit it to your standart resolution. Guess it will be 1920/1080 in most cases.

Step 3 - editing the Registry

Next step is to edit the registry to give the game enough permissions.

1. open the task manager
2. click Data
3. run new task

Then you type in: regedit and press the enter key. Or you just press Ok.

Following window should open:


There you go for the directory "Wow6432Node".
It's like a list of all programs and games you've installed.

You search for techland (Publisher of CoJ) and open the folder. There should be the subfolder Call of Juarez.







You rightclick it and click on authorizations. A new window will open.
There you will permit Reading and full acess.





















The spanish Guy had the ability to go for a Serials file inside of the CoJ directory, where you can put the serial. I didnt see that but my game worked as well.

Step 4 - removing the intro movies

It seems like the intro movies of the game cause problems as well. So we just remove them from the game folder.

To do that you open the Folder :
Steam\SteamApps\common\Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood\CoJ2\Data\Menu\Movies

and delete (or remove) follwing data:
I just switched them to another Folder to keep them save.

- attract
- attract_4_3
- Initial_BG
- Ubisoft_720p
- Ubisoft_720p_4_3







These ones can stay at the folder:

Step 5 - Finished

If you've completed all the steps the game should work now. In my case, and many others it did. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. If you have any additions you can do aswell.

Oh and make sure the game has permissions in your firewall.

What a shitty guide, there is video.scr file, also there is no "techland" entrance in registry files, was it that hard to upload picuteres in english too?

also onedrive ya know if you have windows you have onedrive.. unless you have illegal os's
but usually games store there since thats mydocs etc
the res is 1920x1080 after applying proper res in.

As you said there's no video.scr and for some reason I cannot select 1920x1080 resolution in game

This Guide is over 5 years old. At that time it actually was the only way to get that shit running. Thank you for clearing things up though, I'll add a small section on top of the guide to make sure everybody notices, though it may or may not be helpful for some dudes, so i'll keep that one live.

win 10 most things are on onedrive But this isnt needed to be edited to play
no need to removing any files or editing reg
just run in compat mode for 7 or before
no need to mess with the firewall it has no mp anymore (when it did maybe that was useful)
and blam works fine just sounds off due to the new compression
