Getting started with Local and Global Trading
You can trade locally or globally in Carribean, depending on how far you intend to travel. If you don't want to risk the piratical high seas to sell your goods, or are at war with factions that prohibit you from going certain places on the map, trading locally can be useful.

I have grouped all the settlements into local clusters (A through K), and numbered the cities. If you see a price throughout this guide followed by (@1) it means in my game it was seen at the city numbered "1": in this case Tampico.
For this guide I have recorded where (in my game) the best prices are achieved for each good globally, but also recorded locally who offers the best prices within the groups.
I have also drawn up what resources each group has a shortage of overal, and which it has in abundance. My game will not be identical to yours, as which buildings a settlement starts with is random to a degree and differs from save to save, (these building affect how many resources a colony has to sell and thus how much they will charge). However, overall there are broad patterns, such as silver being found in the south and cocoa being found in the west, for example. This is because certain settlements simply cannot build certain buildings.
So overall this guide should be a rough help to where to buy low and sell high.

Playing BlackJack
Once you have a bit of money an easy way to multiply it is to "Gamble". Save before playing, but essentially as the A.I. is very predictable (always stands on 15 or higher, always hits on 14 or lower) and so there is a simple calculation that can tell you what your best strategy is.

You get to choose to hit or stand after your opponent is done, so you can tell by how many cards they have how likely you are to win. I have done the maths on the probabilities, and don't really want to reiterate everything here, but this is the winning strategy:

If you see your OPPONENT HAS 2 CARDS, on a (16 OR LESS) you are more likely to lose by standing than hitting, so HIT.
2 Cards mean they didn't hit, so they had a good starting hand (or *maybe got 2 aces and went over). 3 Cards however means they definitely didnt have a good hand (14 or lower) and have now either improved it, or accidentally gone over 21. The more cards they have, the higher their expected score is, but the higher the chance is they have already defeated themselves. On 3 through 5 cards, the better strategy is always to only hit on a 14 or lower. At 6 cards the chance they have defeated themselves is so high it is better to hit only on a 13 or lower, and at 7 cards this is a 12. These odds are calculated based on how likely each score you have is to win or tie you that round if you stand, versus how likely it is that you lose by hitting.

2 CARDS/ 16 OR LESS/ HIT
3 CARDS/ 14 OR LESS/ HIT
4 CARDS/ 14 OR LESS/ HIT
5 CARDS/ 14 OR LESS/ HIT
6 CARDS/ 13 OR LESS/ HIT
7 CARDS/ 12 OR LESS/ HIT

Though it still takes some luck,if you play for a while you always win because you have more information than your opponent does, i.e. you know something about how good the cards were with which they started. This becomes a reliable way to multiply earned money (different gamblers play for different quantities/bets, so when you win big you can take it to the next gambler).
Bets scale from:
100 per round/ 1000 total pot
1000 pr/ 10.000 tp
10.000 pr/ 100.000 tp
100.000pr/ 1.000.000 tp
and maybe more? This is how I reached my first million, though I could only play in the last tier when I already had about 500.000 piastres.

I think, but don't quote me on this, it's to do with the minimum wager you can afford: if you can't afford x bets at their level, they won't play against you. I think at least. Try earning some more money and they should aloow you to multiply that.

Having said that: every gambler has a fixed bet, some only play for 100 bucks, and you might just need to find the ones that play for more. If youve found them, but they refuse to play, it may be to do with the amount of money you have (on you, not in the bank), so try the above.

The "A" on the other hand is in a specific region (Im pretty sure I explained that somewhere). Some people might not be bothered to travel all across the map to sell stuff, or it might be in enemy hands making the route more dangerous, so I have also grouped ports by proximity and listed the best local price.

A is a cluster of ports, B is a cluster of ports, and so on and so on. One of the best prices worldwide is in New Orleans in your example, which is also why New Orleans has one of the best prices in its local group of ports, which happens to be A. After all, if New Orleans is the best world wide, it would be strange if it weren't the best in its local group too. That's why the reference to New Orleans is repeated.

Hope that helps

General disclaimer: I made this ages ago so Im not sure how accurate it is.

But what I meant if I remember correctly is that "ww" is "world wide" and the numbers are not the quantity but rather the price (whether buying or selling, in their respective sections).

That means (in your example) that the best prices worldwide are 55 at Tortola (port 18), 57 at New Orleans (port 3) and so on. As in 55 pieces of eight or dubloons or whatever the in game currency is, like I said it's been ages since I played, is what it costs at that port.

I do't understand how you've laid out the commodities and locations:
What is "ww"?
It would help to give an example or two.
In everyday English, what does this mean under Flax Bundle?

Flax Bundle
ww 55@18/ 57@3/ 63@17/24
A 57@3

Is it:
ww(?) qty55 seen at Tortola/ qty 57 seen at New Orleans/ qty 63 seen at Virgin Gorda and Nevis?
qty 57 seen at New Orleans?

Why is the reference to New Orleans repeated?

both work actually, but the one with the crazy bets is in a fixed location iirc

haha yeah exactly save before hand and nothing can go wrong ;) But the more money you have (or maybe it was some other mechanic?) but yeah the more easy it is to make money, as there are NPC's willing to bet ludicrous amounts per game: if you know where to find them. But you can just ask the tavern keeper I think? Or maybe it was one of the other black jack players who else is nearby...

I'll try both, although the clunky UI is really a turn off in this game; also, nice catch with the Blackjack strategy, I realized after a few games that the AI really tends to hit at 15, but I didn't do any maths to prove it... and if everything fails just hit reload lmao

Bit tedious but once you have it, just buy loads of silver mines in towns, and yeah then just buy low sell high whilst you sail around :P

If they still have "Black Jack", that is the easiest way to earn millions :P
