Explaining "How to Garry's Mod"
The reason behind this guide

Many, I mean MANY friends of mine just annoy me when I play Garry's Mod because "It's boring" or "Isn't good enough".
As Garry's Mod Modders and Creators, we gotta prove they are wrong by showing them the entire range of possibilities we got playing this great game.

How did I start

Back in 2010 I started playing a free and downloaded version of Garry's Mod, called Garry's Mod v9.0.4, the site garrysmod.org was the best place in which you could find Addons, Guns, Maps...
Sadly i hadn't a Steam Account, so i wouldn't be able to download content from this epic site, obviously i found my way to download content from this site illegaly.

Garry's Mod was my very first game on my Steam Library. I still play the 9.0.4 version, though.

A little overview of this game is found just right here:

Początkowo opublikowane przez www.garrysmod.com:
Garry's Mod is a Sandbox Game based around the idea of building. Unlike most other games there aren't any objectives - you can't lose and you definitely can't win.

Oh my beloved Game Content
MISSING TEXTURES MISSING TEXTURES MISSING TEXTURES

Game Content and a basic To-Do list once Garry's Mod has been downloaded

How many times a "Missing Texture" or a giant Error prop has ruined your life? the first thing we are going to talk about is The Missing Texture Adventure, how to get it out of your life and play as many maps as you would like to.

This is for the people who doesn't own the entire Valve Game Collection.

Step by step...
  • Download Content.
  • Install Content.
  • Enjoy your brand-new Game Content.

The Missing Texture Adventure - Chapter 1 - Downloading Content

I always recommend to download the entire bundle of assets at once, because it gets tedious to download a single texture or map just when needed, download all assets at once and you will have no problems in the future.

To get started, open your web browser and search for "Garry's Mod Game Content".
Once it's ready, click the site called kajar9 . wix .. ../cs cheat er (something like this)

This is the page i've been using for a long, long time. so i recommend it.

Cookies are used on this site.

Now go to the "GarryContent" section and there you go! links are uploaded to https://mega.nz/
Początkowo opublikowane przez Kajar9:
This content is not made by me, this content belongs to © 2011 Valve Corporation". I made it only work as an addon for Garry's Mod.

Please, be persnickety when downloading these files, so you won't have order problems.

The Missing Texture Adventure - Chapter 2 - Installing Content

This is one of the most difficult things you are going to find in this guide, the "Installing Process" feared by those who don't know how to install addons/content on Garry's Mod.
I'm going step by step on this for those who have never done this before.

You will need WinRaR to do what i'm going to do.

To get started, search for all your .rar files (Game Content and Maps) frequently found on C:\Users\username\Downloads

Right-click on all of them (selected) and choose to "Extract each archive to separate folder"

Once finished, you will have just many folders and its Game Content within these.

Now, search for the Garry's Mod folder on:
(Letter):\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\

Then you want to go inside the garrysmod folder, finding something like in the picture.

Most of the people would vomit all the downloaded stuff into the "addons" folder, that's the wrong way to go.

You got to take the files from each folder you downloaded and then drag it into the garrysmod folder (always called models, particles, lua, maps, etc...).

Accept any requests of replacing files.

And there you go, you can now get to the third chapter of this Adventure by Enjoying you brand-new Game Content.

The Missing Texture Adventure - Chapter 3 - Enjoying you brand-new Game Content.
Just that. nothing to read here.
Control keys and Tools on Garry's Mod
Have you ever played a Source engine-powered game? if you do, you should probably know most of the controls already, anyway i'm explaining them below.

The defaults are:
W, A, S and D keys - Move around.
Moving the mouse - look around/aim.
Right mouse button - Varies, depending on what weapon/tool you're holding.
Left mouse button - Fire weapon/tool.
R key - Reloads weapon.
F key - Flashlight.
Z key - Despawn spawned items.
V key - Toggles "No-Clip", Lets you fly around.
Q key - Opens the Spawn Menu. Menu closes when Q key is released.
C key - Opens the Context Menu. Unlike the Spawn Menu, the context menu is, as the name indicates, a context related menu.

I bet you are asking yourself "The heck am i going to do here?" well, Everything.

Use your imagination to create flying bathtubs, explosive zombie traps, super cars that go as fast as lightning, and MUCH more.

The Physics Gun

First thing you are looking at is your Physgun (Physics Gun), you can use ir to move objects around and placing them anywhere you want.

If you want to freeze a prop in the middle-air, take it with your Physgun (left click) and while holding use right click.

If you want to rotate a prop, take it with your Physgun (left click), while holding use the "E" key, feel free to move your mouse around.

If you want to unfreeze a prop, aim at the object and use the "R" key, this would unfreeze the aimed object.

Use the scroll to do some magic movements.

Tools (WHERE'S YER TOOL?)
Tools are used for many things in Garry's Mod, such as weld, create an axis between two objects, create ropes, etc...
In this section i'm going to write a short description for each of the many commonly used tools on Garry's Mod.

Axis
Creates an axis between two objects.

Ball Socket
Creates a Ball Socket constraint which is free to rotate in any direction.

Elastic
Creates a rope that can shrink and stretch.

Hydraulic
Create a hydraulic constraint that expands and contracts on demand.

Rope
Creates a rope that connects two objects.

Weld
Creates a fixed constraint between objects (two or more).

Winch
Creates a rope that can be made longer and shorter.

Button
Creates a usable button which simulates the press of a key.

No Collide
Makes two props not collide with each other.

Physical Properties
Changes the physical properties of an entity.

Camera
Creates a camera toggled by a key.

Color
Recolors an entity.

To reinforce this, here's a video that can help just many people to solve their questions.

Wiremod as pseudo-electronic components
Wiremod is a user-created mod that significantly expands the sandbox capabilities of the game by adding a large number of pseudo-electronic components such as microcontrollers, logic gates, buttons, radios, gyroscopes, screens, GPS modules, sensors, laser rangefinders, speed sensors and much more.

Wiring these components together allows the player to create a very large variety of electronically-controlled machines (pretty weirdo huh?). It also features Expression2 general-purpose controllers, which allow the player to program the chip with a high-level programming language to compute inputs and outputs to control a wide swathe of elements.

CPU modules, which use a Low-level programming language, allow similar capabilities, as well as the capability to render graphics on a digital screen, to be able to fully simulate a virtual computer.

The use of wiremod allows the creation of very complex contraptions, and everything from virtual
computers to missiles, aircraft, spaceships and space probes, robots and drones; all constructed from components available in-game without the use of modded entities.

Here's a playlist from xDoctorMooch about Wiremoding stuff:

The Gmod Idiot Box, Art made in Garry's Mod.
I HAD TO ADD THESE VIDEOS TO THIS ARTICLE, I still remember like 6 years ago when I was watching the first Gmod Idiot Box episode, here's the playlist by Das Bo Schitt:

Q&A session plus some stuff about the game
For those who are curious, here's a link which shows you what Garry's Mod has been through.
http://www.garrysmod.com/history/

I've found some questions that, back in time, I used to have and i know many people do as well, so let's respond them all.

SINGLEPLAYER QUESTIONS

1. Can I spawn pre-made things? you know... I don't want to create my own stuff.

Yes you can, press the "Q" key and search for the "Dupes" section, there you can search some pre-made artifacts.

2. How do I open the console?

Go to your keyboard settings, scroll down and at the end should be the console hot key.

3. What's the workshop for?

Basically it replaces garrysmod.org making it easier to you to download mods, community created stuff, etc...

MULTIPLAYER QUESTIONS

1. My friend and I both downloaded Garry's Mod today. I clicked "Start New Game" on the main menu and selected "2 players". She is on a different internet connection (in a different town but in the same country) so I know it isn't a LAN game. Would that essentially be considered a server?

Yes it is, once created anyone who finds it can join, so beware, BEWARE.

2. When you download a game made from the Source engine (Counter-Strike, Half-Life, TF2, L4D, etc.), does it automatically add the assets from those games into GMOD sandbox?

No, it doesn't automatically insert them. Down on the bottom right corner of the main menu screen in Gmod, there is a little "game controller" icon, click it and check out those you want to add to your game content library.

3. While playing, we could only spawn a few items from each category at a time, but only with certain item types (ie. four lamps, 10 NPCs, but over 50 balloons). How do I change those spawn limits with the type of multiplayer game we're playing in?

Before creating the server, the option to change those settings is given.

Conclusion
Początkowo opublikowane przez FrostyReviews:
Well, I've reached Garry's Mod. There is not much I can say but -- wow. The fun in this game is crazy, this game makes any other sandbox game look awful. 10/10

Okay.. name me ONE other game that can do half the crazy stuff this game can! Name me ONE! Name a game where you can take a Renamon, nail it to a barrel, turn the barrel into an improvised NASA reject, and launch it into the sky, and then make it explode with a gun from Half Life 2. 10/10

Sandbox games were 2012’s big thing, Garry’s Mod has been rebuilt from scratch. First launched in 2006 the game turns Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2, into a virtual construction kit.

Originally based on the Valve’s Source engine, Garry’s Mod 13 has it’s own compatible rendering engine - ridding the module of many bugs and enabling it to be used without Half Life 2.

Sandbox games give users control over virtual worlds. In Garry’s Mod, the elements are determined by the entities and maps extracted from HL2 and TF2.

In single player mode, with the selection of a map from either of those games. Hints are enabled automatically and a bubble will pop up urging you to press and hold “Q” on your keyboard. This opens a dialogue full of game elements, from none-player characters (NPCs) to weapons and furniture.

Then, the action begins.

@J.S.T.- Luigi There's no .rar files on the Garry's Mod folder, what you gotta do is extract all the files within the .rar files you download and take the files from each folder you downloaded and then drag it into the garrysmod folder with the same name (always called models, particles, lua, maps, etc...).

Do you know where the .rar files are located in the G.Mod folder?
