Hylics: "What is Hylics?"

Hello! In this guide, I will explain on how Hylics is like. I will mostly focus on what it is, not on the gameplay. Mostly focus on how it may be confusing it may look at first glance, and if I can recomend it.

TL;DR..

A femur dream with insane clay like graphics and colors, combined into a slightly short yet cheap and well done JRPG, with things that will make you question what is going on, with it's soundtrack and art style. You also use meat you got from your slain enimies and you go to the world of death to upgrade your guys for their health. You're welcome for the time saved!

Hylics: "First Glance"

Hylics, at first look, is very strange. It's not like other games you've seen before, it's more of it's own style. " Hylics isn't a game. It can be played, but it's not really that much of a game. Instead, more of a artistic experience. It can be seen here.

Yeah, this isn't fake. This is real. The first time you see it, it can be very strange to see a different "game" like it. While at first, the art style can feel wierd, but, the more you get used to it, the more you love it, even geting relaxed by it sometimes. What makes it different? I will try to explain, and see if I can recomend it to you or not.

Hylics: "Art Style"

Now, this is the thing that makes Hylics different and stands out like a sore thumb-it's artstyle. While having claymation elements, it also has a 80's/90's mix of a art style as well. It's art style, while at first, is very wierd to see, and very wierd to get used too. However, once you do get used to it, the art style becomes very relaxing, and eye-candy. Every single item you can use in a ingame fight, the basic attack option, and all of the special moves, both for you and your enemies, have their own different animations. One of them can be seen here. This alone, while Hylics I can tell you has many reasons to be played, is worth buying.

Hylics: "Music"

Now, most music is very straightforward in video games. You've got the themes that make your villian or boss that makes them seem powerfull. You've got the music that makes your lobby area relaxing. You've got you're final boss themes that make you seem like the winner will determine the fate of the universe. But, in Hylics, this is not the case. The music in Hylics is very hard to describe. Like I said, most of them are very wierd to describe, while others, fit the areas they are in very well. Here are some of them.

The uncertianty of the music, such as some of them sounding like the song is melting, adds heavily to the very strange atmosphere. It adds a sense of you're in a world that's much different from ours, in many different ways. It really does add to the overall experience itself.

Hylics: "The Writing"

Now, most games all have certain things NPC's say. For example, they usually only like to say once sentence, or at least two. (This happens in many cases.) However, in Hylics, this is not the case at all. Almost all every non-important NPC in this game has their own random generated dialogue. For example, many of the NPC's speak in a poetic way. However, many of the characters and what they say are mostly very ridiculous. It is very laughable, and adds a somewhat funny aspect to the game. This is another one of the reasons why Hylics stands out.

Hylics: "Is it worth it buying?"

From what I can say, yes, it is very worth buying. The surreal artstyle. The outstanding, yet wierd, OST. The ridiculous random generated dialogue for most non important NPCs. (The RPG system is very good to, and is another reason worth to buy.) It adds to a concept that you may have not felt yet. Hylics needs to be played to be felt. It's not like other games. It's more of program then a game, while playable like a normal game. The best way to enjoy Hylics? Just go with what it does, and trust me, you will love it alot better. While I cannot recomend Hylics to everyone, if you love the art style, the music, the ridiculous dialogue, or all of what I just mentioned wrapped up in a warm burrito of a RPG system, get this game. Trust me, if you enjoy of what I have mentioned thoughout this entire guide, please, please, get this game. Althought it's short, it's very worth it. Not only that, it's just three dollars. For anyone playing the game, Alt+Enter will bigify the window size for you without compromising quality. Also, as far as playability goes, the combat system is VERY fun and the art and animations truly are a spectacle. Really, if you can afford $3, try it out. There's a sequel to this game, too! It's called Hylics 2. Looks really fun.
