What are Country Tags?

Country Tags are used to identify each nation in the game in normal vanilla gameplay. Each country tag is a unique 3 letter combo in all CAPS and if you were to mod the game and make your own nation, you'd need a unique 3 letter tag of your own so your modified nation won't get confused or conflict with the other nations already existing in the game.

But the reason you are probably here is to learn what tags are required for cheats as well! Tags can be used for cheats that require them, so we'll be covering that as well.

For this guide, we'll be talking about the tags related to Italy, both north and south *insert Italian Anthem here*!

How to use Country Tags

The country tag you'll likely use when playing as Italy yourself or trying to conquer Italy as another nation is 'ITA'.

many cheats require the use of country tags when you're sending the event to a nation that is not your own.

For instence, if we want to kill the heir to Italy's throne we would press ` to open the cheat window and type in: kill_heir ITA

and Italia's heir would be killed whether you play as Italy of not.

Another example, if you're playing as someone other than Italy and wanted to discover Italy on the map automatically without using the debug_ti cheat you would press ` to open the cheat window and type in: discover_ITA


In general, any event requiring country tags would use this structure in the cheat window:

event [event ID] [Target Country Tag]

Save for a few special cheats, you'll mainly need the cheat listed above :)
