Ingredients
1 turkey

2 cups broth or water

Melted butter or vegetable oil
Steps
1
Defrost the turkey for several days. It is suggested to let it thaw approximately 24 hours for every 5 lbs of turkey.

2
Preheat the oven to 450 °F (232 °C). This will allow the oven to heat faster. Prepare the oven rack on the lowest shelf of the oven, but do not fully remove the rack completely.

3
Prepare the turkey for roasting. Remove any packaging and any extraneous items (such as the bag of giblets). You'll probably need to check both of the bird's two main cavities to find this bag. Check the body and neck cavities for this bag.

4
Pour about 2 cups of water or broth into the bird's roasting pan.

5
Place the turkey in the oven.

6
Turn the oven's temperature immediately down to 350 °F (177 °C).

7
Allow the bird to roast. As a general rule, allow the bird to cook for 13 minutes per pound.
If you brine the bird, this time will be inconsistent, and will allow the bird to cook in a shorter period of time than that stated.

8
Baste the turkey about every 45 minutes during roasting.
Use butter or oil to baste the turkey within the last 45-60 minutes of cooking.

9
Use an oven thermometer to check the turkey's cooking temperature in the bird's breast, outer thigh, and inner thigh. At each stage, the bird's temperature must be at 165 degrees or higher.
20 minutes additional cooking time is required, if you find out any of these places are under this temperature.

10
Remove the turkey from the roasting pan and drain out all the liquids from the cooking platter-cavity. They will be reused later, as part of the gravy.

And there you have it folks how to make a delcious turkey for thanksgiving ENJOY :)
