Plantera
Von Comicbook23
In this guide, I will explain how best to defeat Plantera, a mid-hardmode boss. Plantera is an extremely difficult boss, so you will want to use the best strategy you can get! There are many amazingly easy ways to defeat Plantera, but this one is probably the easiest strategy to use that takes almost no time to prepare for. I hope you find this guide helpful!

Preparation
Plantera is an extremely difficult boss. Because of this, you will want the best weapons, armor, and accessories you can get. Plantera is summoned when you break the pink Plantera Bulbs in the Underground Jungle biome, and the Plantera Bulbs begin to spawn after you defeat the first Mechanical Boss. However, you should wait until you've defeated all three Mechanical Bosses, and until you've made some more preparations, to fight Plantera. Once you've defeated the three Mechanical Bosses, you will be able to craft a Pickaxe Axe or a Drax, which will allow you to mine Chlorophyte Ore. With this, you should make the best armor and weapons that you can (You make Chlorophyte Bars at an Adamantite/Titanium Forge. One Chlorophyte Bar costs 6 Chlorophyte Ore at one of the two forges to make.). Here is a list of the items you will need to defeat Plantera:

Armor
- Turtle

Weapons
- Chlorophyte Claymore
- Chlorophyte Shotbow + Ichor/Cursed/Chlorophyte Arrows
- Megashark + Ichor/Cursed/Chlorophyte Bullets
- Light Discs (5)
- Ichor Shower/Cursed Flames/Crystal Storm
- Nimbus Rod

Accessories (all reforged to Armored or Warding if possible)
- Charm of Myths
- Avenger Emblem (if possible)
- Bee Cloak (if possible)
- Moon Stone (if you use this, fight Plantera at night)
- Obsidian Shild
- Wings (any available pair is fine)
- Flesh Knuckles
- Star Veil
- Frozen Turtle Shell
- Magic Quiver
- Fire Gauntlet
- Shark Tooth Necklace
- Sweetheart Necklace

Potions
- Ironskin (2 - 3)
- Regeneration (2 - 3)
- Endurance (2)
- Lifeforce (2)

The Arena
The only way to summon Plantera is by breaking a Plantera Bulb in the Underground Jungle. To destroy it, simply mine it with your pickaxe. Plantera will spawn instantly, but she will spawn a ways off-screen, giving you a few seconds to prepare. The best way to defeat Plantera is to set up a boss arena around a Plantera Bulb, instead of using your boss arena on the surface, as Plantera will enter rage mode upon leaving the Underground Jungle (trust me, you do NOT want to be around when that happens). The boss arena for fighting Plantera will be different for each class, but I'll be covering the melee arena.

To set up the melee arena, mine an area about the size of the screen around the Bulb. Fill that space with rows of Wooden Platforms, Campfires, Heart Lanterns, Banners (because Underground Jungle and Underground enemies will spawn during the battle), a pool of Honey at the center, and the same Heart Statue system you've been using for the previous battles. Place torches about 10 blocks apart to sufficiently light the area you'll be fighting in. Once all of this is done, you're ready to start the battle.

Note: If you die during the boss battle, Plantera will despawn, and you will need to either move the arena to another spot where there is another Plantera Bulb or keep the arena where it is and lead Plantera to it to start the battle.
The Battle
Needless to say, Plantera is the biggest challenge you've encountered so far. You can only fight her in the Underground Jungle, which has been the second most dangerous place in the world since pre-hardmode (aside from the Underworld). If you die, you must move your arena to another Plantera Bulb's location. However, there are a couple of tricks for fighting Plantera. I'll give you some tips on how to use them.

Tip 1: Plantera almost never stops moving. Therefore, neither should you. Fill your battle arena will rows of Wooden Platforms so that you don't need to fly the entire time. Use these platforms as a place to run around if you need to. Plantera fires projectiles at you, which just one reason you should keep moving.

Tip 2: Swords are not the most reliable weapon to use for this battle, as Plantera almost never stops moving towards you. Plantera does a pretty reasonable amount of melee damage, so try not to let her ram you. USE YOUR RANGED WEAPONS!

Tip 3: Sometimes, Plantera will stop all motion and just sit there. Use this as an opportunity to use your heavy-hitting weapons, whatever those may be for you. Be aware, though, that she will resume motion after a few seconds.

Those are some tips for the first stage of the boss fight. Once you take Plantera down to half health, she will enter her second stage, in which her pink exterior explodes, revealing a green, toothy mouth. She moves much faster, fires more projectiles (and fires them more rapidly), sproutes multiple tentacles that follow you around, and deals more damage over all. To counter this, circle around Plantera as best you can. This relatively keeps her in one spot, so all you have to do is aim at the center and fire.

If your health gets low, don't hesitate to run. If you do this, however, you might run away from the arena, leaving you in the dark, dangerous, and relatively unfriendly Underground Jungle. Try to circle back around to the arena. Also, if you do run away, don't run in a straight line. That would make it much easier for Plantera to hit you with her projectiles.

Note: Keep in mind that Plantera does fire more deadly projectiles, and she fires them more rapidly (as stated above).
Aftermath
Overall, the battle should take about 5-6 minutes if done correctly. Once you defeat Plantera, a few things will happen:

1. You'll be given an achievement.

2. You'll get the Temple Key, which is used to unlock the door to the Lihzahrd Temple in the Underground Jungle. Temple Keys can also be used to craft Biome Keys, which unlock Biome Chests in the Dungeon.

3. You'll get a lot of other useful weapons and tools.

4. The Corruption/Crimson's spreading speed will be lowered significantly.

5. A message will appear in the chat saying "Screams are echoing from the dungeon." This message indicates that newer and tougher enemies will now spawn in the Dungeon.

6. The Cyborg NPC will now be available.

7. The Truffle will sell the Autohammer, which is a Crafting Station used to make Shroomite Bars.

8. The Traveling Merchant will now sell the Pulse Bow.

9. The Witch Doctor NPC will now sell multiple Minion-related items. You need a Pygmy Staff in your inventory in order to buy them, though. (The Pygmy Staff is commonly dropped by Plantera.)

10. Newer and tougher enemies will now spawn during the Solar Eclipse event.

I think they can spawn on any two jungle grass tiles, even if the area is unexplored, but I could be wrong about that.
Cl0wn_F1sh 4. Jan. 2022 um 17:31
right. and it does only spawn in explored areas right?

That's what I would probably do, just leave it for a while. They're tiny, so they're hard to find, but they do glow pink. Usually it takes a few hours before enough of them spawn in that you'll find one.

@Arcanefeather If you've defeated all the mechanical bosses, then the bulbs should spawn. They're not very common, and they take a while to spawn after you've defeated the mechanical bosses. I bet there's one somewhere though

instructions unclear, bulb will not spawn, all 3 mech bosses defeated, do i need the jungle ore for it to spawn?
