I also noticed that the Medal for "Completing all Accolades" pops when you've completed 90% of the accolades. I still have about 7 left and I have the medal, although to get the calling card, you need to complete all of them.
Getting close enough to a Warlord will initiate a melee animation that makes the enemy step rather far in your direction. Managed several times to 'drag' a warlord to explosive barrels that way, which makes the whole killing matter at least a little easier.
They also seem to exude smoke when on low HP, helping with the timing on when to explode the barrel.
I just got both accolades at once. (meaning you can apparently do headshots in melee)
Put holes in the heads of the first 2 shielders at the broken wall, then went for push the line as suggested and beat the actual phalanx down. Chances are you could also make both achievements if you get consistent head-melees only on the phalanx, but this is what worked for me.
I guess it's unreliable, but trying to melee them at head height might save some the trouble of having to redo the mission for either accolade.
