How to deal with all the Specimens + DLCs + Endless Mode
By Nanashi
This is a guide I created in order to give a few pointers in how to deal with all Specimens in this guide. It will obviously contain spoilers about what awaits you in the game, so I highly suggest you to experience for yourself the game first, and if you're having troubles with a certain Specimen, then read the guide.

The format of this guide will be simple. I will show you a photo of the Specimen, where you will encounter it, how it attacks, how to deal with it and how to notice when it has spawned. Keep in mind this walkthrough will be updated in the future when the announced DLC comes out with the new areas and monsters.

Also, I want to recommend you to check on the wiki about this game for more info about lore and other stuff, specially if you liked the game. All images I've used for this guide were taken from it. You'll also find the soundtrack of the Specimens in their specific section. Link below:

Specimen 1
The first Specimen you'll find, it's basically a cardboard drawing of a cute or not cute monster. There's different types, but I'll only show you one here. They suddenly appear out of nowhere, specially if you're holding the Run button. This causes a high sound effect to appear and your character freezes for one second, representing the fact the character you're playing as was startled with its sudden apparition (and probably you'll be startled too sometimes). Apart from that, it can't hurt you.

However, while it can't hurt you, it's possibly one of the most annoying Specimen that will appear. Why? Because it can also appear when you're being chased by another Specimen. Since you're basically worried more about what's chasing you, the appearance of this Specimen will probably catch you unguard many times, and the fact that your character in-game freezes when that happens may make you really vulnerable to any Specimen that may be close to you. They're also solid, so you're forced to go around them else you'll get stuck on them. There's no way to deal with it, but if you have the axe, you can cut them which spares you from having to dodge them, but keep in mind you'll be wasting stamina while doing so, something you may not want to do.
Specimen 2
The first dangerous monster you'll encounter in Room 60, and the point where the game turns into straight horror. There are two ways to trigger its appearance. One is to check the note inside this room, which will make it appear once you put down the note from the door where you entered. The second is to simply leave this room without reading the note, in which case it will appear in the next room, so yeah, you're doomed to meet it.

Its method of attacking is to spawn in the rooms puddles of slime that slows you down so it can reach you. It tends to put it in bottlenecks, so you cannot dodge it the majority of times. It can also go through walls, so in circular rooms it can be dangerous, but fortunately it's not as fast as other Specimens and doesn't hurt that much.

To handle it, make sure not to waste your Sprint meter when you have to cross a puddle. Since it doesn't make any difference if you run or walk when you cross one, walk in order to preserve stamina. In circular rooms, I suggest you to let it get close to you then continue through the room, that way you're forcing it to go through the same path you take instead of going through the wall or gaps to quickly catch you. With those two tricks, you'll simply breeze through it. You'll know when it starts chasing you again when you hear some choking voice sound or when you start seeing puddles of slime on the ground. The music that accompanies it is not a useful indicator since sometimes it fails to trigger.
Specimen 3
The third Specimen you'll find, and it's also one easy to deal with, even more than Specimen 2 in my opinion. It will appear in Room 120. After getting the keycard in that area and going through the door that was locked without it, you'll find a room with a note in the middle. If you read (or not) the note, and then continue forwards, you'll hear a clicking noise. It's an indication that this Specimen has spawn from where you entered that room, so obviously get out of the room.

There's really nothing more to comment about this Specimen. During its chase parts, it will create holes on the ceiling, which can use to spawn in the room. While this would make it dangerous since sometimes it creates them in bottlenecks that you need to go through to exit the room, it takes a while for the Specimen to spawn, so it's really easy to reach the end of the room and exit before it spawns. The easiest way to deal with it is to simply head to the end of the room as fast as possible, while trying to evade the areas that have holes in the ceiling in case it spawns. It's corporeal too, so it's forced to follow the same path as you, another thing that makes it easier than Specimen 2.

The music, again, is not a good indicator to know if it has spawned since it sometimes fails to trigger, but if you see those holes I mentioned, you know it has spawned.
Specimen 4
Specimen 4 is, in short words, Specimen 2 without being slimy. It spawns in Room 166, in the school hallways you'll see there. After passing through the second screen of that area, you'll hear a distinct sound (most likely a female voice). It means that it has spawned right behind you, so quickly take one of the doors of this area you'll see where you are and get out of there.

As I've said, Specimen 4 is really similar to Specimen 2. It's a ghost, so it can go through walls and gaps. It's faster and hurts more than Specimen 2, but in exchange it can't create those puddles that slow you down. If you apply what I mentioned about circular rooms in the Specimen 2 section with her, you know how to deal with her. There's really no other trick on how to deal with her other than that. Again, her music may not spawn sometimes, but if you suddenly hear a sound similar to somebody scratching a blackboard, you know she has spawned.
Specimen 5
The first, in my opinion, dangerous Specimen that you'll encounter, and one of the most common ones to spawn. It will appear in Room 210, in a Silent Hill like area. After passing through a foggy room, you'll encounter a much longer room waiting for you. If you continue advancing, you'll see from the left side a gate opening, and Specimen 5 behind it. It's easy to get out of the room from this point, but everything starts after that part.

You see, this Specimen method of attacking is to create a fog that makes it hard to see, plus it turns all textures of walls, ceilings and floor into what I describe a bloody mess. This makes it really hard to explore a room and find an exit. In big open rooms this is not really a problem, but in rooms that have two exits and one of them can be locked or in big rooms in a really closed space which are the most difficult to see with the effects mentioned above, he can be a real problem, specially since he can take a lot of your health if it touches you. He's solid though, so it's forced to follow the path like Specimen 3, and he's not really fast compared to other Specimens.

The easiest way to deal with it is to memorize the room layout. This is easy to do since you'll most likely encounter the same room a lot of times. Even if you don't, the bloody textures disappear and appear at random, so if you're lost wait a bit until you can see the normal textures. Also, the textures don't affect water sections or gaps, so you can use them as reference as to where to go. The hardest part will be to locate the door, but if you look carefully you'll see the bloody textures of the door frame move in a different way than the wall, so use it as reference.

Fortunately, at this point the music for the monsters will appear 100% of the times, so if you hear the music that accompanies him, or if suddenly the vision turns foggy, you know it has spawned.

As of Endless Mode update, this Specimen shows more than one type of texture when it changes the walls and floor textures, and its speed has been slightly increased, so keep that in mind.
Specimen 6
The most annoying and one of the most scary Specimen you'll encounter. It appears in Room 310, in a Legend of Zelda like dungeon. Once you go through the boss door, it will appear in front of you, but it won't move. Do not stop looking at it, get close to one of the doors you've probably seen when reaching the end of the room, and open the door to get out (you don't need to face the door to open it, simply stay close to it and you'll be able to open it).

Why I'm telling you this? Because this Specimen method of attacking is to quickly go behind you and attack you, covering any distance that there is between the two of you instantly. However, it won't do it if you are looking at him directly. This works even if there's a wall between both of you. Don't spend too much time looking at him though, as he will teleport behind you if that happens and attack you, sometimes blocking your path depending on where he appears, so head to the exit door as soon as possible.

Without the axe, the way to deal with him is to first wait for it to spawn from the door you entered. In order to do so, back away a bit from the entry door, look a bit to one side then quickly look back to the door. This is a good approach since he will spawn from any door in the room, even locked doors you cannot go through (this won't happen if the door is the only exit door of the area) so you want him to stick to the entry door. It's a good idea to remember the room layout too, since it can help you not get stuck in the room while walking backwards. This is one place you'll truly hate Specimen 1 if it appears, since it will block you and force you to go around it without looking, which will take a lot of time. The big open rooms with gaps will also be a nightmare here, because even if you know the layout it takes so much time to cross the room that he will inevitably teleport behind you, and there's no way to stop that from happening unless you purposely let him get close to you to reset the timer that makes him appear behind you, which is a really risky move.

One thing to note, it takes a bit of time for him to recognize you're not looking at him, so you can do a quick 90º turn in order to see where you're going, and quickly face him again so he doesn't go after you. Sometimes this may happen even if you're looking at him, so if you get hurt quickly turn behind you and you should be fine if you keep your calm.

If you get the axe, you can go close to him and attack him. He will fall on the floor, and you'll be safe for this room only. Be careful not to get too close to him, since he can still hurt you even if you're looking at him. In my opinion, if the first method works for you, you should stick with it since it's faster than carefully hitting him. Last thing, it's easy to know when he has appeared since you'll hear the typical sound of a wooden puppet plus the music will change to a really easy to recognize, so if that happens, quickly turn around to face the entry door and wait for it to spawn.
Specimen 7
This Specimen will appear in Room 410, after you cross a big and completely dark room with a cat in the middle. You'll end up in a long hallway with weird textures. From this point, you'll hear a new background music, which indicates this Specimen has spawned.

This Specimen kills instantly if it ever touches you. It's a wall that will keep on moving, starting really close to the entry door, giving you a really small amount of time for you to start running. There's really no other way to handle this Specimen other than to reach the exit door. The biggest problem you'll encounter is that during your way to the exit door, you end up in a dead end. The Specimen is fortunately slow so there may be still a chance for you to backtrack, so try to keep some stamina in case you have to do that. Sometimes the textures get glitchy and allow you to see through walls, which can help you see if the way you're going is a dead end.

Unlike other Specimens, this one will only appear one time, and you'll never meet it again. It's basically a matter of trying until it finally despawns, and it's not common to get a dead end, so it shouldn't be hard to escape. Also, there's a really rare bug in which another specimen will spawn with this one, which shouldn't happen. Depending on the specimen, well, good luck to you is the only thing I can say, specially if you get Specimen 6.
Specimen 8
One of my favourite Specimens, this one is a buffed up version of Specimen 4. It will appear in Room 558, in the forest section of the game. After many rooms with forest area, you'll suddenly encounter closed rooms with strange symbols in the walls, in one of them, you'll see two doors, one in each side of the room, and a hallway in front of you. From that hallway you'll see Specimen 8 appearing, so quickly head to one of the side doors to escape.

Specimen 8 will bring with him a sort of static-type overlay to cover your vision. It's not as dangerous as Specimen 5 way to cover your vision, so you should be able to see through it easily. He's a ghost, so he can go through walls, so as you can probably expect, he's dangerous in circular rooms. What makes it more dangerous than Specimen 4 is the fact that when he touches you, it will flash your vision with many different images that can quickly disorientate or confuse you, which may help him take another hit on you. Apart from that, there's no much difference to Specimen 4. He may be a bit faster than Specimen 4, but not that much.

And as for strategies, the same applied for Specimen 2 and 4 works when you reach circular rooms. Unlike the deers in the forest area, he's immune to the axe, so don't use it on him. It's easy to know when it spawns because the music changes to one with static and your vision will be covered with static too.
Specimen 9
Specimen 9 can be encountered from Room 51 onwards. There are two ways to spawn him. In both cases, he can kill you instantly if he touches you even once.

The first and easiest way to meet him is to stay in one room for too much time, when no Specimens are chasing you. After 1 or 2 minutes, he will spawn in the room. This is to make sure you don't stay in a room for too much time. If you have to leave the game for a moment, pause the game, else when you go back you'll find out you're dead.

The second one is in a special room. In this room there are three paths. The left one is the exit, the right one leads to nowhere and the middle one is an endless hall (it's a dark and closed room, if that helps you notice). If you head to the endless hall, after a while the walls will start closing on you. When you're unable to move, this Specimen will spawn in front of you and kill you instantly. If you've been walking for a long time and you remember there was a left and right path before heading to this hallway, quickly go back before the walls trap you. I've tested it and as long as you reach the start area there's still a chance to escape from being trapped.

How do you deal with this second one? Simply take a left every time you reach a three-way intersection just entering the room, and you'll be always fine. I can't blame you if you forget, since it's rare that it appears, but suspect a bit when the hallway seems to be endless after walking for 10 seconds. Keep in mind that there's also a room that is purposely done so it resembles this one, except it's not an intersection, only a straight hallway. Don't worry, it takes a while, but you'll eventually reach the end.
Specimen 10
Specimen 10 was changed in an update, if you played the game before the last rooms were released. The first one was a big snake. It was easy to escape from it since it was corporeal and not really fast. The new update introduced this one you see in the image, which is much harder to escape than the snake version, and also much more annoying.

You'll encounter this Specimen in Room 617. After going through many futuristic rooms, you'll see a snake spawning in a room after the lights turn on a second time. After a moment, the snake will die, and the Specimen will spawn from inside it. Head to the only door you can take and get out of the room.

Now, this specimen has two forms. The first one is a humanoid form, in which it walks slowly but hits hard. It's easy to outrun, but don't do it. Why? Because if you do so (or you attack it with the axe) it will spawn the second and more dangerous form, the worm you see in the image. This form is really fast and can easily reach you from far away of the room. It hardly matters that it's corporeal like in the first form. Also, if you get hurt by it your vision will start getting covered by some substance that may make it difficult to see where you're going if you're really low on health, as the more health you lose the more you're covered.

To deal with it, you'll have to keep a short distance with it. You're even faster than this Specimen when you walk, so stick to walking and keep a safe distance with it. Not too close so it can attack you, and not too far so it can spawn the second form. If the exit door is close, you can just ignore this advice and head to the door, but in rooms that take a while to travel, this can be really dangerous to outright lethal, apart from quite annoying to travel since you can't run at all and you have to stop a few times if you walk since you are faster than him. The only way you'll know it has spawned is when the music changes to the one related to the specimen, but if you don't have your speakers on for some reason and suddenly you get attacked and your vision is covered by some goo, you know it has spawned.

Another good piece of advice about distance, if you suddenly see the screen flashing some images and he's not close to you, you got too far away from it and you have spawned the second form. Forget about keeping a safe distance at this moment and quickly run to the door before it kills you.
Specimen 11
My favourite Specimen, and the hardest to escape, specially during the first encounter. It will spawn in Room 710, in the fast food area. You'll meet him in the freezer of this area. As soon as you take the exit key, he will appear from the entry door. This makes it really hard to dodge it the first time, since the entry door is the only exit to that room and there's meat hanging in the room that blocks your way. There's two ways to deal with this. Either you quickly head to the door before it has time to spawn, or you stick to the left, and when it's close to you dodge to the right and head to the door. You're still not safe even after that, as you have to exit the kitchen area and head to the exit door, so carefully dodge it while heading there and get out of there.

You're still not safe from this point. This Specimen way to attack is to hide the doors. With the frames included sometimes, making it impossible to locate where the door is. This is extremely dangerous, since there are doors that are purposely placed in a way that makes you believe the door is in another place, like putting on purpose a carpet near a wall, when the door is not in that wall. It's also really fast, hits fast, does quite a lot of damage and can go through walls and gaps. It's probably the hardest enemy you'll encounter, and one of the most common to spawn unfortunately.

Apart from applying the same rules for ghost enemies (take into account it's the fastest of them), you'll have to remember the location of the doors for areas where it's confusing to remember where it is. Don't worry, since other areas make it easy for you to guess where the door is. Don't waste the stamina too much, give yourself some small time to regenerate it a bit in case you have to dodge it. It also has the bad habit of attacking you between room transitions, so make sure to get some distance before you exit the room or it will hit you. Apart from that, there's really not a lot to suggest. If you get really unlucky with the rooms, it can be a nightmare to dodge it. You know it has spawned when you hear a different music, a small groan and for some weird reason the door disappeared on you.

As of Endless Mode update, during the chase it will also add flashes of animals when you're running away from it, which may disorientate you. Also, I just recently noticed, but you can hit it with the axe if your timing is good. It will make it disappear from the room. It's not something safe to do because the Specimen moves fast, so you're better off running away from it, but if you encounter a situation in which you're trapped, try to use it to avoid getting hit. Keep in mind that even if you hit it, if your health is at 0 because it managed to get a hit on you, you're doomed the moment you leave the room.
Specimen 12
Specimen 12 is one of the most interesting Specimen to meet. You encounter it in a mansion area in Room 810. When you enter many of the closed rooms of that mansion, you'll probably see some boxes or a closet. If you check them with the same button that you use to check a note, you'll see your character will hide in them. This happens because if you try to exit those rooms moments after entering, a message will prompt you to hide quickly. If you don't do that and Specimen 12 enters the room and sees you, it's an instant game over. Keep in mind that you don't need to obligatory hide in those locations, as long as Specimen 12 has no direct vision with you it should be fine, but as this method is the safest and the majority of times the only one, use them. In some rooms, Specimen 12 will leave a key for you in order to continue exploring.

The last place you'll head to in the mansion is an underground area, which is done by placing the fake book in a section of the library. There's a last place you'll need to hide there. Once you do and he gets out of the room, you'll find the exit key. After that, you'll have to return above. After going through a long hallway, you'll appear in a room with two doors at either side that you already went through to reach the key, and Specimen 12 will be at the right door. Quickly head to the left door, exit the underground area and exit the mansion. After that he will start chasing you normally.

In both the last encounter and after he turns into a normal chase monster, he will no longer instantly kill you if he sees you. However, if it gets close to you it's a similar effect, since he hits really fast and really hard, enough that one single contact can easily kill you. There's only one way to deal with him, and it's to run away from him as fast as you can. He's corporeal not really fast fortunately, but as you can't afford to let him reach you even once keep a really long distance from him. After running away from him the first time, he can still spawn, but it's extremely rare for him to do so, so most likely that will be the last time you'll encounter it. And the only way you'll know if it has spawned is if you hear a male voice when the music changes.
Specimen 13
This Specimen, the first thing that will come to your mind if you played the game it references, is this word: "Amnesia". This Specimen works exactly the same as a specific monster in the Amnesia games. It will appear in Room 910. You'll find some rooms flooded with water, with many boxes floating in it (you most likely are figuring now how to deal with this one). In one of them, there's a note telling you not to open a certain locked door, something you'll have to unfortunately do. Inside it, you'll most likely see a female form on top of a box (see the image, which is the only sprite you'll see from this Specimen apart from its death screen). If you get close to it or after a while, it will jump into the water, moment that signals that the Specimen will start attacking you.

In case you haven't played Amnesia or you still haven't noticed, head to one of the boxes and stand on top of it (you don't need to check it like a note, simply get close to it and your character will automatically stand on top of it). As long as your body is not touching the water, you're safe. And that's what you're going to do in the whole flooded section. While keeping your body constantly out of the water, head to the exit door. Keep in mind that the Specimen will reach you faster the more distance there is between you two, so evade staying on water as much as possible. If you do that, you'll easily escape from it without a single scratch. You can't see the specimen btw, only the ripples it creates in the water, but most of the times expect it to be really close to the box you're standing. Too bad you don't have any meat to distract it.

Since this section is the only one with water, this will be the only time you'll have to deal with this Specimen. Hopefully that changes in the future, but as for now this is all you'll have to deal with this one.
Final Boss
The final boss in the game, and the only Specimen you can kill (apart from the silly Specimen 1 if you want to count that) is Specimen 9, with its complete form. After reaching the last room and walking through some white rooms, it will spawn. From this point, it turns into a boss fight.

This boss has three ways of attacking, and will use these attacks in the same order, repeating it each time it completes the sequence. It has two versions of each attack, the second one done when it's low on health:

  • It will spawn some pillars from the ground, always close or under you. First you'll see some holes appearing, quickly get out of its range and you should be fine. At lower health, he spawns more of them, but still should be easier to dodge.
  • It will spawn a shadow arm that will follow you. After some time, it will stop, and arms will spawn from it. You should be safe if you never stop walking. After those arms spawn, two minions will spawn that can be quickly killed with the axe (don't get too close to them though). At lower health, it will use a second arm, which means it will spawn two more minions after the arms appear.
  • It will throw a fireball at you. This is your chance to hurt it. Hit the ball that throws you with the axe (basically spam attack button). It will bounce back and hit the boss, stunning it and lowering him enough for you to reach it with the axe. Spam the attack button as much as you can until it goes up again. At low health, he will throw more than one fireball at you. Don't stop attacking untill all fireballs have been thrown.

Repeat the sequence after the last one. During the fight it will constantly spawn blood and other flashy images to cover your vision, making it harder to see the shadow arm and the pillars. It's still possible to see though. Once you've attacked it enough times, you'll win, and you'll trigger one of the two endings in the game. Congratulations, you've won!
The End
And that's it. Hope the walkthrough is useful for you. Next part is the first DLC, Karamari Hospital, sporting a total of 5 new specimens. Have fun with that area. If you don't have it, I suggest you get it, it's really good at putting you at edge, and two of these specimens will surely scare you the first time you encounter them.
1st DLC Specimen
The first DLC Specimen is basically a walking humanoid that you will find right after you turn off the power of the hospital. Just after you leave the basement and return to the main floor, go left to finally be able to enter the next section of the map that was electronically sealed. Once you do so, this speciment will be waiting for you there. And it will always stay in that same room, never leaving it. If he's not moving, enter one of the side rooms first then exit, he will move after that. You have to do this in order to access the stairs.

How to deal with it? Well, it basically blocks your way to access the stairs behind it, and it will follow you slowly, so make him follow you to the right wall by sticking close to it then quickly move to its left open side and you're done. Congrats, you now know how to deal with it. You'll have to do this every time you go back here, so never forget that this specimen is there. It does a lot of damage if it hits you, with three hits enough to kill you.
2nd DLC Specimen
The second speciment to encounter in the expansion is a flying bagged corpse. You will find it inmediately after you leave the Morgue, after you get the key inside it. You'll probably realise that the place you exit doesn't resemble at all to the hallway you walked before entering it. If you continue further, which you're forced to do, suddenly you'll see one of the bags raising, blocking your way. Quickly get away from it because this freaking specimen will start chasing you.

This is the only encounter you'll have, and it can be easily dealt with by simply running away from it. Start by heading back to the door you came, which now will be locked. There will be a left hallway that has suddenly spawned. Go there and keep running away from the specimen. You'll eventually go on a full circle and go back to the place where the specimen appeared. Don't worry, you're at the last part. Go back to the locked door that you used to enter and that's it, you'll return to the hallway before the morgue. It will never appear again.
3rd DLC Specimen
Honestly, I'm not sure why I'm adding this "thing", because it's much of the same like the first specimen, just easier to deal with. Anyway, once you enter the "rabbit hole" aka the secret room in one of the offices, if you head to the left room then after that right, you'll find a giant baby head encaged, similar to a certain boss in Silent Hill but in that case a bed, flying around. And that's all I can comment.

To deal with, as it follows you really slowly, simply move to one side then when it follows head for the opening. The room is even bigger so you shouldn't have any problems dealing with it. What you will have problems with is...
4th DLC Specimen
Welp, there you have it. If the one before was just too easy, this one can be quite a nightmare the first time. Once you managed to get the key of the rabbit hole section, this specimen will appear once you leave the room you got it from (you'll see this Specimen hanged in the room before you take the key). It's a humanoid that will constantly attack your back with a really quick attack, enough for it to need close to 5 seconds to kill you. Running away is pointless, as it basically teleports behind you instead of moving.

Does my explanation remind you of something? But of course, as this specimen is exactly the same as our old friend Specimen 6, the puppet. Which means it has the same weakness, as long as you look at it, it won't attack you. Unlike the puppet though, this one will quickly fade away once you look at it for a small time, so you need to quickly head back through the rooms until you reach the stairs you used to go through this "rabbit hole" to successfully escape. You have some time to head to the next room before it spawns again, so use it well. If it spawns again, again look at it and quickly head to the next rooms. Enjoy your peaceful way up.
5th DLC Specimen
The last specimen in this DLC, this one will spawn in a metal caged maze. The moment you enter inside it, the moment this specimen will appear, though it will take some time before it reaches you. Once it does though, it sticks close to you and continuously attacks you, hitting you fast but for small damage, though it can quickly accumulate enough to kill you.

How to deal with it? Well, you'll have to leave the maze to escape it, and you'll encounter many dead ends. So most likely it will be able to reach you. So I highly suggest you to preserve stamina as much as possible. Do not run unless you get hit by it. If you do get it, quickly run, take some distance and continue further from the maze. I highly suggest you not to spend all stamina since it can quickly reach you again should you get stuck in a wall or another dead end. It's basically a battle of speed. Who's faster, you reaching the end of the maze without encountering many dead ends, or this thing killing you.

Mind you, there may be an alternative way to deal with it that I don't know, but I did this and I managed to win. If somebody manages to find another way, then cool. I did encounter a really troublesome problem the first time. The speciment managed to get close to me and attack, but for some reason even after I was dashing for a long distance I kept getting hit because the damn thing got stuck on me, which seemed quite weird because I am quite sure my running speed is higher than this specimen, I tested it. I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's supposed to do that, and if it's the second, if there's a way to destuck it. In my second time I managed to miraculously beat the maze without being hit so I can't say for sure, but maybe try to hit it once with the axe to see if it works, something I wouldn't encourage honestly since stamina is precious in this maze.
6th DLC Specimen
While the next two remaining Specimen don't really act as obstacles in the whole DLC, but they can kill you, I decided to add them. The only way to die with them is that you purposely try to kill yourself, so they're not really a problem, still here they are.

The 6th Specimen can be encountered in the "rabbit hole". You'll probably find a room that heads to a dark hall that if you walk towards it stretches endlessly. Sounds familiar? Yep, it's exactly like Specimen 9, only in this case there won't be a wall to trap you. However, in order to die you have to purposely walk towards that hall for a whole minute or more before it spawns, and I'm sure everybody has died at least once because of Specimen 9's room, so yeah, don't head there unless you want it to kill you.
7th DLC Specimen
And here's the last one. Just like the previous one, you have to purposely search for this death, specially for this one, as it takes a lot of time to trigger it.

This Specimen can be found in one of the hospital rooms. You will find a solitary sofa in a room that you can sit. Sit there for a minute or two, you'll probably see your screen doing turning foggy the more you sit on it. After a whole 10 minutes, you'll probably see a shadow sitting in the sofa if you stand up and look at the sofa (if not, you need to sit for a longer amount of time). Hit that shadow with your axe, sit back, and relax, as you have just killed yourself.
Endless Mode Changes to Old Specimens
So now that we have Endless Mode, let's write a little about it. First, except for the minor changes like adding death scenes or changing small parts of specific Specimens, nothing else will carry to Story mode, both in original and DLC. So the strategies you applied before Endless Mode will still work. Four of the DLC monsters also appear in the Endless Mode, with different gameplay in some of them, which I explain below.

Now that this is out of the way, let's comment about the changes that I believe it's worth mentioning that some Specimens got.
  • 4th Specimen, aka the lady in the old schoolhouse, got a massive update. She now has three forms. The first form is the one from story mode, so nothing to mention here. The second and third form, however, are worth mentioning. The second form is basically the first form, though it makes her more "beautiful". That changes when she switches to the third form, which has her running towards you constantly shaking her head and with more than two arms. This form makes her a bit faster and does more damage. She can switch back between second and third forms all the time, and that is basically the main problem.

Why, you ask? Because when she switches forms, the screen stars fading out until it turns completely black, which means you can't see at all. And she loves to change forms. Which means that you have a small period on time in which you're blind, and you'll have to rely on your memory to move without getting stuck in a wall or hole on the ground. And that small amount of time you're stuck is enough for her to catch up. So yeah, you'll have to remember the layout of the room, which can be hard since Endless Mode introduces lots of new rooms. So good luck there. There's really no trick other than remembering the layout of the room before your vision goes dark.

Btw, when your vision blacks out, a shutter sound from a camera can be heard, which it's possibly a reference to Project Zero/Fatal Frame of taking a photo of ghosts to "kill" them, only in this case it doesn't help you at all. The fact that she looks beautiful and has noticeable breasts is another reference to Koei Tecmo having the bad habit of overdoing with how they show women, specially after the last Maiden of Black Water game.

  • 3rd DLC Specimen, aka the baby face. Well, there's really nothing worth commenting, but since now it's a chase monster, here it goes. The only problem you'll have with this monster is that it spawns in a random place in the room when you enter. It doesn't necessarily appear behind the entry door, and depending on your luck, that means it could spawn right in the middle of the room in a straigth corridor, which means easy hit. You'll have to bear with it. And yeah, you don't have the flame sword so you can't kill it here.

  • 4th DLC Specimen, aka the Merchant incarnation in the DLC. His gameplay is the same to the DLC, but unfortunately now you'll have to deal with the random factor of the rooms, and if you get a specially long room, it's a nightmare to keep track of his teleportations. Just head straigth to the end if it gets a hit and that's it. You outpace this monster when you run if you don't look at it, so only look at it if you feel you'll slow down or have to do a circular room.

  • 5th DLC Specimen, aka the cow in the maze section. You'll instantly know it has spawned because the rooms suddenly will look similar to that maze. Fortunately it always starts from the entry door, but unfortunately the rooms now can have dead end paths. The strategy you used for the DLC still works here. Conserve your stamina at all times.

  • 6th DLC Specimen, aka the lady in the endless hallway. In this new mode, she gets quite the change. While she now chases you, she does so by darkening your view, so much that in some dark colored rooms you'll have a hard time to see where you're going. Either raise the brightness of the game and/or rely on memory to know where you're going to make your life easier.

And now, for the new Specimens in Endless Mode.
1st Endless Mode Specimen
If you've played the game Imscared, you'll instantly recognize this white face. This monster hurts you by basically touching you. The problem is not that, it's how to deal with its constant teleporting. You see, this monster loves to teleport around, and it does so if you look at him. If you look at it, it will teleport to a random location (usually close enough to hurt you) and it will make your screen flash red. It will also teleport to a random location if it scores a hit on you, usually far enough so you have time to head to the next room.

Now here's the thing, its teleportation can both be an advantage or disadvantge. You see, this monster will spawn in a random area of the room. You'll know if it's close to you by how high its breath sounds, the higher the closer it is. If, when you walk towards the exit door, the sound gets lower, then don't bother looking behind you, because if you do, chances are you'll be making it teleport right behind you, and you want it to keep following you from behind. If it starts sounding higher, it means it's coming from the front or similar. In this case, you really want to look at it to force it to teleport, so that it gets out of the way. Get back a bit so you're not too close to a wall, and keep looking around, and if suddenly the sound gets lower, that means you succeded at making it teleport away. This trick also works if you're forced to deal with a circular room, and you know how annoying those are when the monster is non-corporeal like this one.

If you die to it, you still have a second chance. There'll be a moment in which it will show you the words CLOSE in a text field section. Write "Open" on it, and instead of the game closing, you'll be able to try a second time against it. Now its gameplay changes. While it doesn't teleport around when you look at it, it will instead constinuously try to catch you, and it's a bit faster than in the previous form. And you can't afford to get even one hit, as your health is constantly 1 until you get away from it. There's really no strategy here other than rush to the door and hope you're not unlucky with the room you get.

You'll know when this thing spawns when the rooms are dark, to the point of not seeing the end of a small room, and the graphics look pixelated, and with a somehow different style to the usual you see in the rooms. You'll easily note that the doors are changed too, not having any door frames at all. Keep in mind it won't spawn inmediately, but after you walk a few rooms after you spot those changes, so prepare yourself mentally for what it's to come.

2nd Endless Mode Specimen
Okay so, this thing... Well, it's a reference to Five Nights at Freedy's. So how it works is that, it's corporeal, so can't go through obstacles. It's slow when trying to catch, and even more if you look at it. It also does small amount of damage per hit, and it can "rapid fire" hits so it takes some time for it to hit you again.

So yeah, it's basically a joke character. It's easy to deal with, and can be considered a specimen that gives you some free rooms to explore. It doesn't take long for it to disappear too. Really, you can only die if you purposely let it kill you.

3rd Endless Mode Specimen
A new specimen, and surprisingly a really interesting one to deal with. You'll know it has spawned because it will be blocking access to the exit room (if there's two or more exits, you can still head to them, but it won't make it disappear for the next room). So what do you do to get rid of it if you're blocked? You hit it with the axe. You'll have to do this several times. The last one you'll have to hit it, you'll probably see an eye in the chest section of this monster. Once you hit it, the chase will start in the next room.

First off, you'll probably realise that the layout of the rooms have completely changed to some kind of dungeon like sections. Once you start advancing more, you'll notice that you will start losing health continuously. It lowers health at a small ratio, but the bad news here is that it takes quite a lot of rooms to get away from it. Not only that, but the specimen will be constantly floating and moving around the room (it's non-corporeal btw), and if it ever touches you, it will paralize you for a few seconds and make you lose a bit of health, which quickly accumulates the more time you spend running away from it. Basically, it's trying to slowly kill you.

Unfortunately there's really no trick to deal with it, other than trying to dodge the specimen if you encounter it and rushing to the exit door. Depending on your luck with rooms, if you get big ones you'll need more time to exit them, something you can't afford. Never stop moving and try to remember the layout of the rooms as much as possible to make exploration faster and avoid getting stuck on walls, and you should be fine.
4th Endless Mode Specimen
Tirsiak is a non-corporeal enemy new to the DLC. It always starts from the entry door, and will keep chasing you until you get away from it. It doesn't move really fast, so you can easily outrun her. It does moderate damage and it's pushed back every time it hits you, so it can't "rapid-fire" you with damage. So she's easy to deal with IMO.

However, you need to take one thing into account. When she spawns, she also spawns shadow creatures that are corporeal, can't hurt you, but guess what, they love spawning in a lot of bottleneck sections, making them act as barriers to block your path. To remove them, hit them with the axe several times until it dies. This not only slows you down, but also drains your stamina when you use the axe, so she may be able to reach you while you deal with the creatures. The trick here is to time well the moment the creature dies so you don't waste too much stamina, and only kill those shadows if they're blocking your way. Forget about killing Specimen 1 too, it's a waste of stamina in this chase especially. You'll hate circular rooms the most in this case, because you have to deal with the usual problems of circular rooms with non-corporeal Specimens AND dealing with animals blocking your way. Yeah, this happened to me, curse my luck.

You'll know it has spawned because the rooms will suddenly look blue. It's an annoying color, but you can easily see the shadow creatures with it.
5th Endless Mode Specimen
The worst specimen you'll have to deal, and the hardest one of all of the existing ones, old and new. She's an overpowered version of the Merchant. Here's a list of things to deal with:

  • As I mentioned, it's a Merchant-like specimen, so that means if you don't look at her she will teleport to your back and hit you. But here's the difference. Looking at her for a long time doesn't teleport her, because she doesn't need to, as she can still move when you look at her, and quite fast btw. So that means you have to contantly be looking at her and go backwards when exploring, or else she will teleport and hurt you.

  • Unlike the other Merchant-like specimens too, you cannot even afford looking behind for a moment to see where you're going. The moment you stop looking at her, she instantly teleports behind you. So you really are dealing with rooms without being able to look where you're going.

  • Not only that, but you can't stop looking at the room counter. Why? Because she can trap you in an endless loop, and the moment she does so, you won't be getting away from her no matter how many rooms you explore. How to deal with this? You need to exit through the entry door, which means you need to somehow dodge her if you moved too far away from the door and go back from where you came from. Do never stop looking at that counter, because for every room you've done in the loop, you'll have to do the same number of rooms to exit the loop (you'll only need to head to the entry door once, once you do so it's back to exploring the same way, but keep in mind you'll be entering the rooms from the exit door you took when you did it first).

Not only that, but she also hurts quite a lot, so you can't really afford to get hit a lot of times. If you get hit because she teleported, forget about trying to look for her, you're better off trying to exit the room before she scores another hit. Hope that you don't get a lot of huge rooms.

You'll know that she's spawned when the background music suddenly disappears, your vision becomes more red the more you explore, and ominous messages like "I've been watching you for a long time" start appearing. She won't appear until much much later, so prepare yourself mentally for her appearance.

Lastly, for Lisa, it's true that she immediately jumps you if you look away from her, but she also goes invisible when stared at intently, so keeping her in your peripherals and moving makes her stay more visible. I don't know where you got the part about taking the entrance door as an exit though, this doesn't happen in her chase, except maybe her specimen room in HD (haven't played this yet). It's like white face, you ignore the room counter and after 20 rooms it's gone suddenly.

And one more in this vein - the cow monster, specimen 4, otter, and white face all get slowed down by staring. Cow and white face will teleport and dart to your peripherals, 4 and otter will slow down noticeably.

A big one - the trick to Monster 4 (Patient) is to alternate staring him down and looking away. If you stare continuously or avoid continiously, he gets annoyed and teleports. If you stare and unstare repeatedly, he's forced to just float slowly towards you.

Good guide - assuming it is tailored for OG - though it has some missing points - for example, Specimen 6 can teleport sometimes when you try to hit it.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with Specimen 10. It says to keep him close, but every room I go into, it's always the worm thing, which I have to outrun or hit with the axe, which then causes it to switch to the humanoid form. No clue.
