Introduction
This guide will contain all the Total War Shogun fixes i discover when using the horrible os that is Windows Vista, starting with the simple but effective Launcher bypass.

Launcher Fix
This method works with most total war games and helps fix two issues.

1. My Game is crashing because of the launcher

2.Steam does not record my ingame hours because it thinks the launcher is the game.

Step by Step guide

Step 1: go to Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Shogun 1 Gold\launcher

Step 2: delete launcher.exe

Step 3: go back to Total War Shogun 1 Gold folder and copy shogun.exe

Step 4: Paste it into the launcher foldier and rename it launcher. (It should look something like this:)

And there you go! now when you launch the game it will take you straight in game and steam will run in the background. If this fix makes your game worse, then simply go back and delete the new launcher.exe and validate your game files.
Shortcut fix (quickest)
This fix may help those who get a black screen on startup get the game running properly very quickly, or aid those who do not want to run the game through steam:

Step 1: go to Steam\steamapps\common\Total War Shogun 1 Gold

Step 2: right click 'shogun' and 'create a shortcut'

Step 3: move shortcut to desktop/ start bar.

Step 4: Click launch. It should know launch instantly without steam and run properly without the black screen.
Good Luck Daimyos!

I solved the 'unable to move units using mouse click' issue using dgVoodoo. More details and link to the pre-configured dgVoodoo in this thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/345240/discussions/0/3195865512453724072/#c4516632899769866270

So: Shogun 1 Gold Edition no longer lets you move units using a mouse. Great, guys.

Same issue as several. Can no longer use mouse to move units around. (And it's not because I need to update my mouse drivers, or uninstall or reinstall, or use a different mouse. Tried all that. Something in the Steam/Shogun 1 "Gold Edition" no longer allows the mouse to move units. The internet doesn't seem to have any answer for this, also. Real shame the developer no longer seems to care.

I got the same issue than Gortooth : I can't move my troops by clicking on the ground. Can only use minimap to order them around.

Been playing game for 3 months all of a sudden I can't move any units in battle mode. Only change i made was downloading Shogun two that runs ok but Shogun gold edition still has the above problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Every time before I launch the game if I "verify integrity of files" then I have almost no issues in-game with it running or things not working. All I have to do after launching the game is I just go back to the options and change the unit sizes or the limited ammo and restrict camera options. I actually leave the game on the default graphics settings partially for the nostalgia feel but also because changing lots of options from the default seems to cause issues with the game and leaves more variables for crashes. It's not a perfect fix and sometimes can be a little annoying but it works.
