how to install models/thomas stuff (NO LONGER UPDATED!)

are you always clawing out your hair trying to figure out how to get custom models into trainz simulator? well this guide is for you!!!

obtaining your files

hey so, future fowler here, i get comments on this guide occasionally still and i'd figure i'd go ahead and say that i no longer touch this guide anymore, i've not even touched trainz in a couple years at this point, if i ever do go back into trainz again i might re-vamp or remake this guide with more up-to-date info, some of this info here may still be useful? i've got no way of knowing though, if it is, great, if not, crap. i wish anyone coming across this guide the best of luck though as i remember installing custom content in Trainz to be a hassle. -Fowler of the Future

first locate the model you want to install
SI3D is the main place for the tv series models so i suggest going there for them
now you MIIIIIGHT need to get a program called Winrar so you can extract some of the files
now unless you have been living in the times before these "magic flashing boxes of.... magicness"
existed i cant help you on how to use the download button
this is a "preview" of sorts, of what you can expect from si3d

NOTE: dont bug him about some models, he has stated on his deviantart and discriptions for multiple of his videos that some models are private,and/or havent been released yet, and his rule for releasing models is when he releases the first video they appear in, as stated on his deviant art page
now there are other places where you can get all sorts of different models on the web
my suggestion is go to abbeyrailway for more websites, not all websites work anymore though,
then there's IRL locomotives you can find on the internet, just look around and see what you can find!

importing those B****ES

now that you have all your stuff its time for the bitty witty nitty gritty
what you actually need to do is start trainz and go to the content manager, to get there, start up the game, and when you are in the start up menu where you normally select "start" but instead look down and you should see a box called content, click that, and its semi smooth sailing from there!
once you open that up, navigate to "file", in the top left... and from there look for "import cdps"
it should open up the file explorer, go under "downloads" or wherever you downloaded your cdps to in the file explorer
there you should find the files you downloaded (you need winrar to extract some of them to your
folder so you can locate them easier) and just select all related files and your (almost) good to go

DEPENDANCIES

certain custom models will not work right off the bat, these will require dependancies to work
they can usually be found on the download station, to find ones specific to your model, look for the model in content manager, this can be done by, well, using the search bar, right clicking on your model and look for the option saying something along the lines of "list of dependancies", another way of finding ones that aren't on the dls, is using the "KUID index" website
NOTE: not all models have their dependancies listed in the model dependancie list, these can usually be "accidentally" found by downloading other content by either the download station or the internet, when you install all the dependancies, check the model in the railyard, if it does not appear, there might be an issue witht he config file, post a comment with the error (s) and i'll try and help you fix them

removing content

if you need to remove content, just locate the file in the content manager, and delete it, simple as that
