Custom Cutie Marks

So you've made yourself your pretty pony OC and you're ready to go, but wait! You don't have your OC's Cutie Mark! What ever shall you do? Don't worry, this guide has got you covered. I'll take you through step by step on how to get your pony his or her Cutie Mark on there, so you can truly stand out.

Step 1: Getting The Mark

If you already have your mark then you can skip to step 2. Just make sure it's in a PNG format.

Photoshop

Photoshop is beautiful, fun, and has a bit of a learning curve to it. But following along should be easy enough. Firstly open up Photoshop and select new (Ctrl+N).


Do not forget to set the background contents to transparent!

The size isn't too much of an issue but 400 pixels works best in my experience. Now you want to either draw or drop your image in. I will be using crosshairs for this example. I already had an image saved so I will drop it into Photoshop.


If you drop in the image and click anywhere on the picture a pop up will... pop up obviously. Hit yes. The layer is still locked at this point so I usually grab the eraser and hit okay on the next pop up. At this point you can do whatever to make your mark right. (From personal experience I would make the image less than the full size just so it fits better.)

Don't save your picture just yet, I'll explain why later.

MS Paint

For MS Paint, we will go through a similiar process as Photoshop. If you can make the image here great, if you have a picture you can use that works too. I will be using the crosshairs as an example. So drag and drop the image onto Paint, then click on Resize.


Click on Pixels and type 400 in. (This is the best for me to use from my experience.) I would advice shrinking the image down a bit just so it looks better on your pony.


Don't save your picture just yet, I'll explain why later.

Step 2: Saving your Mark

Open up your File Explorer and follow this directory*:
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\materials\

*If Steam isn't located in your C Drive, for example mine is on the G drive (for games, get it?), then go to the drive that does and follow that directory to get to the same spot.

Make a new folder called "ppm_custom" inside the materials folder. This is where any and all custom Cutie Marks will be saved.


For Photoshop hit Save and follow the same directory to the folder. Click on the drop down for "Save as type" and find the PNG option. This is the extention that ppm will look for when picking Cutie Marks. Now click save.




For MS Paint hit Save As and follow the same directory to the folder. Click save and you're done with that part.

Step 3: Applying your Cutie Mark

Start up GMod and go to your ppm and click on the tab with the B on it. Go to Ponymark and click Select under the Select Custom Mark. Your custom mark should be there.



And there you go, your pony is now complete! Now go out and have a good time!

@Kaitri If the picture you're using has a colored background you'll have to remove it in an art application (like Photoshop) manually. If you still follow the guide afterwards your issue should be resolved.

Do you Know if they ever fixed that crashing issue and look a bunch Of Haters That probably don't even have the balls or courage to attack others real life because of the Illusion of Net Anonymity. But anyway Can anyone Tell me if that bug is still around that causes a Crash or freeze on loading a custom Cutie Mark? This Guide goes back two years so why i am asking.
