How to farm Martian Saucers (And defeat them without effort)
By Shiny
The Martian Saucer minibosses that spawn during the Martian Madness event give some pretty nice loot, why not farm it and avoid getting destroyed by death beams?

Why would I want to do this?
Very simple: The Martian Saucer drops some pretty awesome items!
This includes:

-The Influx Waver. An amazing sword, one of the best swords obtainable before the Lunar event, actually. Better than the Terra Blade
-Cosmic Car Key. Summons an UFO mount. Why wouldn't you want it?
-Xeno Staff. UFO minion. Do I need to say anything else?
-Laser Machinegun. Take a minigun and add lasers.
-Some more items that are only slightly less awesome

This is also an easy way to defeat the Saucer without getting destroyed by it's 200 damage death ray.
Preparing for battle
There are only a few things you need for this:
-A good Yoyo
-A large floating platform high in the sky close to the spawnpoint. A floating island is perfect, that way you don't have to build the platform.
-A long platform about 100 blocks below the shelter for getting Saucers to spawn

Some optional things to defeat the Saucers faster
-Death Scythe. Dropped by Reapers during the Solar Eclipse event. The scythe fires projectiles that pass through blocks, allowing you to hit the Saucer from within your shelter
-Minion staff (Any kind, Deadly Sphere or Optic Staff work great, Pygmy or Pirate are also decent)

Make sure the platform you build the shelter on is not too large, that way no event enemies can spawn on it, so you don't have to deal with engineers building tesla towers inside the shelter.
Start by building an arc on your island. Make the top 7-8 blocks high and the walls 2 blocks thick. Add a small roof above the door for easy Yoyo usage.
A campfire is optional, but recommended

A shelter build on top of the house of a floating island.
Also shows all the loot I got from a single event.
Starting the madness
In case you don't know how to trigger a Martian Madness event, let me tell you.

First, you need to defeat Golem at least once.
After that, Martian Probes have a small chance of spawning in the outer thirds of your world. They have a bigger chance of spawning in space, so try building a large asphalt platform in space to get them to spawn faster.
When a Probe spawns, it will scan the area below it with a green cone. If it detects a player, the light will turn red and it quickly flies off. This triggers the Martian Madness event, but no enemies actually start spawning until you return to the world spawn

This is what a Martian Probe looks like:
Getting Saucers to spawn & fighting them
During the Martian Madness event, aliens invade your world. Run around on the platform below your shelter until you either see the Martian Saucer appear on your map, or see it's laser barrage.
When this happens, hurry to your shelter and wait for it to float above it.

Attacking the Saucer

The Saucer has 4 health bars: One for each cannon and turret.
The Saucer uses 3 different attacks: Shooting lasers from the turrets, missiles from the cannons and a death ray from the core

These lasers are hard to avoid, but can't penetrate your shelter.
Destroying the turrets disables this attack
Be careful when using a Yoyo, as the lasers can sometimes hit you when you get too close to the door

The homing missiles have a big blast radius, which can hit you through a wall, so try to avoid getting too close. They don't deal a lot of damage though
Destroying the cannons disables this attack
Once again, be careful with the Yoyo, the missiles might be able to fly around the roof
Here I'm using the Death Scythe. I highly recommend it as it makes the fight a lot more easy

The death ray deals a lot of damage and leaves behind fire. But it can't travel through blocks so it should not be a threat.
When all cannons and turrets are destroyed, the Saucer will enter rage mode. It can only use it's death ray and the damage is doubled, the saucer moves faster and damaging it might make it drop burning metal chunks. However, none of these attacks can get through your shelter. In this stage, a Yoyo is the most effective, since you don't have to worry about any attacks hitting you

Defeating a Saucer adds 5% progress to the Martian Madness event, so you can destroy up to 20 of them during a single event.
To get a new one to spawn, go down to the other platform and run around until it spawns.
How about the other event enemies?
The only other enemy with interesting loot are the Scutlix, the alien riding them has a 1% chance to drop the Brain Scrambler, which gives you the Scutlix mount
This mount might be worth getting, as it's fast, jumps high and shoots lasers at nearby enemies in it's line of sight.

You can also get Martian conduit plating from any enemy, which can be used to make space/future-themed furniture.

@AFortenberry: Yes, Meowmere is stronger than the Influx Waver, but you get it much later.
The weapon I use it the Death Sickle, which is dropped by Reapers during the Solar Eclipse random event.

The ai in this game is real intresting. Like how you can abuse their patterns to farm them, etc.

I would use a star wrath as my prefered weapon. Although i have a ufo mount already, im just giving this info to players who have beaten the moon lord, but haven't gotten the ufo key yet. Since the star wrath summons stars that deal high damage(Which is common knowledge, don't get salty at me plz), it makes the process go quicker than using a yo-yo. Modifiers like legendary and godly(If ur lucky to get a star wrath with 1 of those modifiers), also increase the speed of this process.

@EKBiscuits
Most people don't have a stardust dragon staff when fighting these things. If you've already done the Lunar event there's not much of a challenge to it anyway. This guide is for if you did not yet defeat the lunar pillars.
