Personal Disclaimer:
This story is written using two games spliced together. The first of which I was actually invaded and overtaken, and the second of which I was ubersuccessful. My Traits were the same though.
I love writing and I love sharing success stories as well as entertaining my readers. The story, timeline, and sequence of events layed out in the Index is based upon the second and actual successful game. The first game is actually just being used for screenshot purposes and has no presence in the story. Altitude was set to medium and vegetation to very low (in attempt to simulate a desert terrain).

I hope you enjoy the read. Please identify any typos. Please leave feedback and suggestions if you are open to commenting.
Presidential District: 1950's
I inherit Tropico

I am a musician, not a dictator! How will I keep my people safe and alive out here?
I have $20k left to my name. What will I do?
All I know is it's dry so farming doesn't sound prosperous. I expected canyons and deserts because it is the largest island in the area. I know nothing else about the place before I get there except that it's far away from U.S. mainland so tourism is out of the question. Just me and my entorage. We are going to party until we die out here. Some inheritance, huh?

We arrived at a massive island, with a volcano dominating the southeast beach and an ancient pyramid temple on the north beach. There were rolling foothills that made traverse across the island nearly impossible, but the most beautiful rock formations dominated the landscape. People from all over world would love to see them! But we were trapped under the looming shadow of the massive active volcano. Our most abundant resource was one small field of tobacco and one small field of papayas.
I love papayas!

One thing is for certain, our port dock cannot possibly be any closer to the palace!

"Are you a rebel?"
Great Depression: 1960's
Time's in the 60's were very bad. Our economic climate even got so bad that I feared a foreign invasion! Our foreign affairs never ever got rocky so we were never even threatened.
The situation back at home was not-so-happy. I'd have to say though, my Tropicans remained loyal and true. I should've given more speeches at elections. In my 50 yrs I gave three speeches. I have not had to fight for my votes so I always stuck to my presidential duties during the race. My people love me. The Nationalists and the Communists object to nothing. I expected rebels and vandalism. Instead I got loyalty and results.
They work very hard, and I work very hard at supporting their supports for my supporters' support.

Industrial Plunge: 1970's
The 70's...
What were they doing?
When you think "Industrial Boom" you think, "work".
Well, in the 70's I felt like the only one working! I'm surprised El Presidente hasn't fallen out from exhaustion after all this difficult ruling I have to do. You try governing an entire full blown island of hungry and needy Tropicans! It's not easy to do in a dry climate with so little vegetation. Nobody wants to come to live on an active volcano. Perhaps it's time I give everybody a raise. My credit with the superpowers is good. I trust they'll have faith in my budgeting decsions. I always pay off my debts.

"If you want something done, do it yourself!"

Suddenly a hidden blessing from nature...

What a miracle! The world is an amazing and beautiful place! A violent tornado destroyed Tropico and overnight foreign aid poured in from all over the world. It was amazing! We not only managed to rebuild our island, but we also were able to invest in other projects promised to the Intellects.

Presidential Legacy
El Presidente's Final Speech

Citizens of Tropicoooo!!
For 50 years I have ruled this beautiful island full of the most amazing people in the Caribbean. I have ruled with a golden fist, only to ensure a bigger and brighter future for Tropico. Yes I know the early Military Modernization of the government made it an unpleasant place to call home. But after a long and boring industrial era I am pleased to report that I will be retiring from my presidency leaving Tropico with enough funds to build a thriving tourist economy on the Shores of The Temple! (crowd goes wild for like 5 minutes)
Yes, yes. Though not at the best interest of entertainment for my own generation and the founders of Tropico, my Ministry's stringent budget decisions have made it possible for us to now invest millions into growth and development. Our children have inherited Tropico. Let us not destroy their chance to carve their own path.
I hope that you will always remember El Presidente and his mighty reign as both the millenium and the century come to a close. You have been most loyaly accepting of my decisions. And for this I thank you. Leaving my people with --not only a positive treasury balance but-- a boat load of money to realize all of your dreams of a paradise in the Caribbean! I, personally, envision a Tropico full of bright doctors and scientists here to preserve the future of all mankind.
I have had recurring dreams of an era where the dreaded volcano, tyrant of fire and destruction, no longer rules the skies. A new age for Tropican eyes. A beautiful landmark that will mark the peak of our economic triumphs and overlook all of Tropico. Every citizen will look up and see the pillar dominating the skyline. You can do it Tropico! Rule with a Golden Fist!
The time has come for me to step down and let Tropico flourish in it's own glory. Bless you all!

For the next 50 years Tropico undergoes an incredible ecomonic climate change, building a thriving gold mine industry and taking the fine jewerly trade by storm. Once the treasury was overflowing with funds the Ministry decided it was time to bring tourists to Tropico. The Shores of The Temple were opened up to visitors and thus began a world-famous tourism boom which filled up the history books of the first century in the new millenium. El Presidente would have been proud!

A portion of Downtown Presidential District was demolished in order to make room for a memorial park directly across the street from Presidency Palace to commemorate the great leader of Tropico.

Where will we be in another 100 years?
The 2nd Fail: 2000-2030
During the first half of 21st century Space exploration, Nuclear fortification, Foreign Investment, and Trade became the new trend for the business side of the island. Meanwhile the tourist shores spread like a wildfire, bringing Spring Break spenders from around the globe to see our beautiful island and bid on our priceless native artwork. This will be known as the Second Tourism Fail, owning it's place in our history as the cause of the Mid-21st Century Shower which ended the Economic Dark Ages for Tropico. It was the spread of industry across the island in combination with all of the research and government funds being stretched in every which direction that sent the treasury into one of the economy's most scariest troughs. These decisions to dump the treasury funds into further industrial investments not only proved to be pivotal and profitable for the welfare of the future generations of Tropicans, but devistating for tourism and they sent the balance charts into a wildly sporadic trend. The national debt once again plunged deeper into the red than ever, and yet still, with not one single threat of invasion. Foreign affairs officers were baffled and stock markets around the globe were crashing. Making over $150k per export shipment leaving from three thriving ports, we used the money made from gold jewelry and art to invest millions back into the growth of urban development across the entire island while preserving the natural beauty of our amazing Tropico.

The 2032 Great Rain
We needed a solution to our economic strains. A solution. That word sparked an idea for the professors at the chemical plant. In 2032 the Ministry approved a scientific project which would allow the Academy of Science to test a new "plant fertilizer". They said it would turn every sqaure mile into lush green fields yielding endless supplies of crops. The project went horribly wrong when funding was rerouted to the space program to put five radar dishes across the island. But the fertilizer worked!
Farmers inherit Tropico. Bio Farms appear everywhere on the island. Investment for financial assurance. Crop conditions on the island nearly doubled, allowing us to invest in more farms than ever before. The nation flourished with farming, residential, commercial, and industrial districts spread throughout the entire island. And El Presidente's vision has been realized! The monstrous Babel Tower nows stands in the center of the island and brings great promise of an even bigger and brighter future for Tropico. Now we'll venture into the 22nd century with a golden economic backbone thanks to the great Rock Star El Presidente!

The Drought of 2037

Tourists were leaving Tropico at an alarming rate!

The Shores of the Temple were as dead as they were before we got there. So was tourism.

End of the Dark Age
Spring Break was over for Tropico and worked resumed as usual. Incredibly, over ten years went by without a single historical record. The reassuring Age of Silent Reasoning, as we are now certain that our Ministry yet again took the right steps for Tropico's future during this great time of uncertainty. All that is known is every working man, woman, and child took a 50% pay cut in what was the single most impactful legislative adjustment made by the Presidency thus far. Ironically this triggered an economic swell that eventually became the best decision in the history of Tropico's first two centuries. This event was known as The Reset and was responsible for the economy's greatest financial period ever and eventually led to the realization of El Presidente's dream of the Babel Tower.
