In direct answer to your point, Newbies shouldn't be playing versus mode as they are new anyway.
I was directing my improvements mainly to online versus players where we get ranked based on level. Newbies should not be playing versus mode until they become somewhat good at the game, hence my 1 minute time limit for all turns outside of turn 1.
Most advanced players can make their turn under 1 minute. Finally, my 1 minute time limit does not include the combat phase where attackers and blockers are declared. I think the time frame in the combat phase is actually good as it is! So I guess you could say the overall turn time for a turn WITH combat is about 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds which is good.
Just don't blow up your own guys for no reason :P
