How to Fix Game Resolution on NVIDIA GPUs
От Nihil
If you're playing Sacred Gold on a widescreen monitor, or any monitor that is not 1024x768, you've probably noticed some distortion. This is because the game was developed to use only one resolution: 1024x768. Any other resolution will cause the game to stretch to fit the screen unless you have the appropriate settings. This guide will help you set these settings if you are running on an NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU).

Step 0: The Problem
Before changing any settings, this is how the title screen will look at 1600x900.
Step 1: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel
Go to the Start menu and type "NVIDIA". Find the NVIDIA Control Panel and open it.
Step 2: Go to "Adjust desktop size and position"
Once you have opened the NVIDIA Control Panel, look under the "Display" section and select "Adjust desktop size and position".
Step 3: Select "Aspect ratio"
Under "Select a scaling mode", select "Aspect ratio" if it is not already selected.
Step 4: Change "Display" to "GPU"
Under "Perform scaling on", select "GPU" from the dropdown list.
Step 5: Apply your changes
After all your changes have been made, select "Apply" at the bottom-right of the screen to apply them.
Step 6: Keep your changes
Be sure to keep the changes you made to the settings!
Step 7: Start the game
After applying your changes, close the NVIDIA Control Panel and start Sacred Gold. The game resolution will automatically resort to its original 1024x768. The rest of the screen will be covered by a black background. Enjoy!
Note: Overriding the scaling mode [OPTIONAL]
Note that the option to "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" does not appear to affect the game. It is entirely optional, though it may prove useful when dealing with other games and programs.

- Finally, the problem of textures that everyone has is fixed. Follow the simple steps:

Hello, if you are experiencing graphics glitches such as missing textures or blinking triangles all over the screen, you can try this fix[ github.com ]. https://github.com/dasbarr/dx7fix/releases/tag/1.0.0
Usage: download ddraw.dll from github, place it into the folder that contains game executable file (for example, /Steam/steamapps/common/Sacred Gold/), run the game. If glitches still occur, try to change various settings in Config.exe in the game folder.
Remember to access the Config within the game folder and check the 32-bit color depth and video compatibility mode.

Let's have fun! : steamhappy:

Or just use an HD mod that scales everything nicely.

Found this via google and it helped me fix my scaling problem with RAGE 1. Thank you so much for this.

Hey Daelin here! Just a heads up, this solution is a nice fix. However I notice that with multimonitor setups (Mine is 2nd monitor attached to my intel gpu iGPU) and my primary monitor is HDMI through my gtx 970, I've noticed that I cannot adjust these settings without disabling my second monitor first then once they are saved I can turn back on my 2nd display (using Windows + P to set PC screen only then Extend).

I figure its probably because my monitor setup is using 2 gpus at once, so the Nvidia settings get all jumbld up with windows 10 multi monitor, since only one monitor is using an Nvidia GPU.

Once I saved the settings however they do not reset (like before they would reset no matter what I did because of the dual monitor setup) but they stay saved after I enable my 2nd monitor again.

Only thing I do notice now though is that the 2nd monitor flickers and distorts its resolution upon launching the game. Otherwise its fine! I've seen this before on retro games!

I dont have a problem with resolution but when i play it the textures are messed up and it skips and lags alot. :(

Yeah, you COULD do that, but disconnecting my Intel breaks my entire system (I tried once) and disconnecting the NVidia means I can't play any newer games until I reconnect it. So there is a software workaround in the NVidia Control Panel that lets you tell the Sacred.exe to override the Intel settings when it runs and use the Nvidia instead. Fortunately, with my setup the game automatically fits black bars on the left and right so the aspect ratio doesn't cause the picture to stretch.

Given the date of this game, I suspect that it could easily be played on pretty much any GPU from the past decade. I know that my GPU (NVIDIA GeForce 210) is very weak and costs less new than retail for recent AAA titles, and yet it can play Sacred Gold at the highest settings.

If you really want to play this game and you're experiencing problems with conflicting GPUs, you could probably just disconnect one of them and play the game using just one GPU. It might be a hassle, but that's probably the only way to play this game without problems when you are running multiple dissimilar GPUs.
