Introduction
As many of you have have fought Plantera before for the first time, or another reaccuring time, killing it is difficult without minial preperation. However, with certain weapons and a good arena, you can easily contain Plantera in-place while you deal the killing blows. This guide will show you a simple way of defeating Plantera as I have learned through exprience.
The Arena
Plantera is no easy feat for sure, as it can deal well over 70 damage per hit, but there is one simple way to avoid this; keeping plantera in blocks. Now obviously it doesnt get stuck, it clearly goes through and stays inside the blocks, and that's the trick. Keeping Plantera inside a large filled in box, will not only prevent it from shooting you with it's first from attacks, but also give you a large advantage of taking no damage and focusing on killing it, rather than living. (But don't lose focus!)

What you are basically looking for in making the arena is a large filled space, with a good amount of space for mobility, or an open sapce for flying for you.
A very simple arena is making a filled square the size of about 7 by 7 blocks. This will keep the body of Plantera inside, and it's hooks will, or can stay around the edges of the square. Upon hitting phase 2 of the boss fight, a large open space, or at least a long flat area or platfrom, can help you run from it while dealign the damage.

Something like this works:

This primal trick is to lure Plantera slowly into this space, and running, or flying around the square to keep it in there. After hitting the second Plantera stage, moving onto those 2 platforms (as seen on the minimap) can help manuver more and deal damage.
Armor, Weps and Accessories
In order for this to work, you need the right tools for the job.

Weapons:

The Mushroom Spear. This is your primary damage source, and the only way you will deal damage to Plantera while it's inside the arena. Assuming that you've defeated the 3 requried mechanical bosses, you should be able to get this weapon from the Talking Mushroom NPC, since only 1 mechanical boss is required to be beaten. Reforging is expensive, but recommened. Since the little mushrooms created by the spear can pierce walls, this helps deal damage while you are at a more safe distance from the main body of Plantera.

Other weapons of your choice is and can be used (i'm not saying that not allowed to use it), but you can tweak and expriment with weapons to suit you, but for it's first and second froms, the Mushroom Spear is a definite need.

Honorable Mentions:

Daedalus Stormbow. Combined with holy arrows, an open area, and massive jukes, this baby can do well over 1k dps and kill Plantera faster. The issue is that this weapon is hard to come by, and difficult to control as the fall of the arrows are like the Starfury, making it far less predictable.

Megashark. Combined with crystal bullets, this weapons can really devastate any foe. The only problem is it's low damage, sure it can shoot fast, but with low base damage, it's not gonna help too much.

Armor:

Hallowed Armor (Mask/Melee Variety). This is a definite must, as you should have gotten enough bars to craft this set (54 bars required), by killing the mechanical bosses. The armor is good since the spear is melee orientated, and gives good defence, speed and attack speed bonuses. This armor is highly reccomended (at least by me in this guide) to use to kill Plantera.

Accessories:

REQUIRED:

You simply gotta have these, there are no other better options around this in my opinion.

Any Type Of Wings. Not necessarliy Mothron wings, but any type, be it early weak wings, or late game solar wings, any type of wings helps you manuver around the arena, and help fly around and over Plantera.

Obsidian Shield. (Or Ankh Shield if you somehow managed to acquire it that fast.) The shield primarly helps you avoid taking that knockback, that can send away from the arena, making it difficult to return back to the Arena, and avoid further damage.

RECOMENDED:

Of course, as long as you have the required accessories, you should have a larger success chance in defeating Plantera, the other accessories are up to you, but I should recommend the following as ones you should think about using.

Mechanical Glove. The bonus 12% damage and attack speed is really helpful to the spear, but one may think that the knockback is useless, but helps keep back the Plantera's Tentacles, when Plantera hit's the second form, since they don't have knockback resistance.( These little buggers.)

Worm Scarf. You take 17% less damage. That's it. What more to say? You will live longer with it, but it's acquried from expert worlds, but can be used in normal worlds, so think about this choice.

Lightning Boots. Running around at the speed of 34 mph. 54 more mph and you can travel through time! It's a Back to the Future refrence, for those who don't understand. It's a good movie. For those who use the metric system (like me), 34 mph = ~ 54.7 km/h.
TL;DR Version
Didn't bother reading? No problem!

Step 1: Get mushroom spear
Step 2: Make an enclosed, filled block space where Plantera can be camped in.
Step 3: Jukes, mad ganks, and the power of christ will keep you alive.
Step 4: Profit.
Conclusion
So ya, I hope this guide helps you defeat Plantera. You should know that this design may not perfectly work for you, so it's best that you make the Arena, and in fact, the choices, up to your own standards, i'm just here to guide you on how to do it with a higher success rate. Thank you for reading, and I hope this helps you defeat Plantera :D

Here is a video of the Plantera fight, using the methods described:

ya, video no longer available, sorry bout that

Thank you, and I hope this helps!

Another way is to get star cell, stardust dragon, and stardust gardain and spawn planterna and run away and the cell, gardian, and dragon do all the work and you win.:steamhappy:

or just make a 10x12 ish area you being underneath the room ...and have the nurse in the top...then just kite him back and forth with high def gear and the terra blade.... she heals herself so fast when not under attack for like 2 seconds

I feel like it all depends on the arena.
And the existance/non-existance of banners.
If you can fly around and shoot and dodge, you may as well be fighting Plantera with Titanium armor.
I did it with Turtle Armor, and I still kept dying.

This guide was made before the update when chlorophyte was able to be obtained before beating Plantera, so yes, now that armor is your best choice, but Hallowed works just as great.

Won't Chlorophyte be better as it is the most op pre-plantera armour
