Sawer (First Boss)
Health:
  • 50 (Easy)
  • 80 (Medium)
  • 100 (Difficult)
  • 120 (Nightmare)

The Sawer is the first boss of Cry of Fear, it is encountered in the Nightmare version of the apartments. He is a considerably tall and skeletal creature that wields the chainsaw he is named after, with pins protruding through his head.

Sawer ambushes Simon once he enters his lair, preventing his escape by cutting a steam pipe into the path of the door. He will pursue Simon relentlessly around the room, moving slowly but taking giant steps that allow him to keep at pace with the player. If given the chance to attack the player, his preparation to swing the chainsaw is slow enough that it is simple to avoid, but if the player manages to get caught in a corner; they have little hope of escape. Being hit once by the chainsaw is an instant kill, Simon being brutally sliced in half at his waist.

The Sawer is immune to all forms of damage the player can give him for most of the battle, his only weak spot being a closed eye protruding from his upper back. The only way to reveal the eye is to damage Sawer until he finally wears down and falls on one knee to rest. The eye will then open and expose itself to the player, giving a chance to attack it for a few seconds before Sawer stand to his fee once more, and resumes the chase. Once defeated; Sawer will succum to the pain and fall to his knees before decapitating himself with his own chainsaw, finishing the chapter.
Mace (Second Boss)
Health:
  • 80 (Easy)
  • 130 (Medium)
  • 180 (Difficult/Nightmare)

Mace is the second boss in Cry of Fear, being fought in the sewers near the end of chapter two. His is a large enemy, considerably taller than the player and bears several bandages across his body that also cover his eyes. He is named after the large spiked mace he carries, which has the power to kill the player in one hit if they are not careful during the fight.

The Mace appears once The Doctor has fled from Simon after beheading a man he was torturing in attempt to find the location of a key. As Mace appears, he reveals that he has the key and proceeds to swallow it before the figt begins. He is notably a very slow foe and is most likely unable to see correctly due to the bandages covering his eyes; often stopping for several moments as if to sniff out the player before resuiming in pursuing them. It can also be assumed that he is able to pursue the player through hearing, as Simon will make noise whilst moving due to the room being partially flooded.

Despite his handicaps, Mace is completely immune to all of Simon's weapons. The only way to defeat Mace is to turn one of the four valves around the room completely to power up it's respective generator, which will prepare to emit a charge through the water in the partially flooded room. The player will have to power up seperate generators to emit enough of a charge to kill Mace, taking care to jump onto dry ground before the electricity can emit. The amount of generators needed to defeat Mace will depend on the difficulty the player chose at the start of the game.

After he is defeated, Mace's fried body still poses a problem, due to the key he swalloed; forcing the player to have to locate a nearby hand saw and cut their way into the corpse's stomach to retreive the key in order to tread further on.
Carcass (Third Boss)
Health:
  • 600 (Easy)
  • 1,000 (Normal)
  • 1,500 (Difficult)
  • 2,000 (Nightmare)

The Carcass is the third boss in Cry of Fear and the only one that is an optional encounter. He will be fought at the end of chapter three atop the rooftops, after Sophie's suicide.

Carcass is a bloated and amputated body that is restrained to a chair held in the air by several chains that hover above him. HIs attacks are similar to two creatures from Afraid of Monsters, the Bleeding Specter and secondarily the Launcher Ghost, in which he fires ghostly projectiles towards the player that track his movements and are difficult to dodge. Due to the difficulty in avoiding his attacks and the high amount of damage it causes, Carcass can be a very lethal foe for player who are inexperienced in fighting him. Once defeated, Carcass falls limp in his chair and the chains lose their flight, the creature and it's chair falling to the ground below and vanishing.

For those who do not wish to fight Carcass, it is possible to flee through a nearby window, and cause the monster to simply disappear. Though wether or not the player decides to defeat Carcass is tied into what ending they receuve regarding Sophie. If Carcass is spared, then Simon's guilt and depression associated with her will continue to fester until he spitefully or possessively murders her in two of the four endings. The other two are achieved by defeating Carcass, which will cause Simon to find peace with Sophie.
Sawrunner (Continued Boss)
Health:
2,000 (Any Difficulty)

Sawrunner is a chainsaw wielding psychopath whose face is covered with three different theatre masks whish disguise his real face. He is encountered many times throughout Cry of Fear, being the most dangerous enemy to face.

Sawrunner has become to Cry of Fear what Pyramid Head became to Silent Hill. Due to it's chasing encounters, disturbing appearance and being virtually impossible to kill by common weapons and means, Sawrunner has become the most recognized monster of the whole game.

The Sawrunner is the most dangerous of all enemies to be encountered, being extremely fast and able to kill the player with a single hit. He also has the largest amount of health in the game, which makes him practically invincible. As he is also a disturbing encounter, for his screaming and loud noises tend to put player in a very alert and nervous state, he will appear in the following locations throughout the game:
  • The first location you will meet Sawrunner is in the alleys of Roland Street, where he will cut his way through a chained off doorway to reach you. He will chase you down the narrow alleys until you manage to leap over a rail to escape him. Bear in mind that an M16 is in the room he will come out of and can either be obtained if the player manages to get around him, go into the door you came from and back out or return later.
  • The Second encounter will be when Simon is traveling through the back alleys toward the college to locate a fuse to access the Saxon Avenue station. He will ambush the player as they are preparing to exit the maintenancehalls and continue the pursuit even after the player has gotten outside, easily breaking through the door. Simon will be chased to a tunnel where he will have to close a gate behim himself in order to block his way and end the chase.
  • His third encounter is during the nightmare sequence in the roped off room in the apartment building when attempting to acquire the fuse these. Once the player has fended off the group of Faceless surrounding The Face, they will attempt to exit through a nearby door. Sawrunner will promptly cut through the door in front of them and the floor will collapse into a dark area will more Faceless monsters. Note that he cannot jump down to contunie the pursuit and will remain idle, simple appearing to provide a jump scare.
  • The fourth encounter will bein the Forest segment, where the player will find a door knob on the ground with a bloody arrow pointing to a shack off in the distance. Once the player has neared the door knob (regardless of wether or not they have picked it up) Sawrunner will appear and coninue to pursue the player relentlessly until they have inserted the door knob into the shack ad have escaped inside.
  • His fifth and final encounter will be in the Kirkville sewer before arriving at Simon's home. The player will have to swim through a tunnel full of water to receive a key to the door, which they will find in a dark tunnel upon surfacing, a locked door sitting nearby. Once the player takes the key, Sawrunner will cut through the door and chase the player back down the tunner until they dive back into the water. Be sure that you have an empty inventory slot when attempting to pick up the key, as the chase will trigger wether or not the player has picked up the key.
The Sawrunner will also be encountered in Doctor Mode, appearing on three occasions:
  • The first instance will be in the network of corridors found after exiting the sewers. He will appear in the room immediately to the player's right after going up the first staircase and will pursue Purnell to the next stairway. Once the player has reached the next floor, he will appear again soon after at the top of the next flight of stairs.
  • His second encounter is in the basement of the apartment building down a hallway. The chase will be breif and will end once the player reaches the doorway at the end.
  • The third and final encounter will be in the hallway on the third floor of the apartment building, just by the door leading to Simon's abandoned room and the end of the game mode. He will appear to Purnell's left and will bgin the chase immediately once the player enters the hall, forcing them to run to their right immediately to slip under the broken bars and escape him.
Sick Simon (Final Boss)
Health:
  • ????

Sick Simon is a final boss in Cry of Fear. He will be face if you did not defeat Carcass and or/did not trust Doctor Purnell with the gun. He is a manisfestation of the Real Simon, who was crippled by the impact of the hit-and-run incident shown at the beginning of the game. Under the instruction of Purnell, he began to write a book about his emotion that gave birth to the world depicted in the game; a depiction of Simon struggling with his inner emotions. In reality, the Simon you play as is merely a depiction of him in the real Simon's head.

After finishing writing Simon's book in any of the bad endings, Simon shoots himself in the head and Book Simon is sent into a nightmare world; the realm bodied and constantly changing, with countless book pages with "Suicide" written on it. Book Simon will proceed to make his way through the warped world and eventually climb to where Sick Simon resides; a depiction of what is left of the real Simon, attempting to fight away his evil twin. It can be presumed that the fight itself is a depiction of Simon's actions eventually overwhemling him, driving him to commit suicide.

The fight against Sick Simon is possible, but potentially difficult for those who do not know what to do. Simon will sit out of reach behind several steel bars, gunshots having no effect on him. Simon will use psychokinetic powers to throw items at the player, forcing them to time their jumps and crouches just right to avoid them.

The player will also have to battle four hordes of unique Faceless monsters, one of the creatures being a unique variant will drop a Valve upon death. Four valved must be collected and then used in seperate corners to raise the bars blocking the player from reaching Simon.

Upon raising the bars, Book Simon will enter the room and proceed to mercilessly beat the Real Simon unconsious before strangling him to death. The death of Sick Simon results in Book Simon collapsing as well, the conclusion of the battle causing the real Simon to give in a commit suicide. In the fourth ending, Sick Simon is a playable character.
Book Simon (True Final Boss)
Health:
  • ????

Book Simon is a second final boss in Cry of Fear. He is considered the "True" final boss of the game, he is faced if you killed Carcass, and trusted Doctor Purnell with the gun in the Asylum. Defeating him will unlock the fourth ending.

Book Simon is practically a twisted version of the protagonist, silent and bloodied. He is very similar to The Addiction, the final boss in Afraid of Monsters. He attacks the player first with a glock, then with a shotgun, machine gun, and finally with a sledgehammer, constantly fleeing when inflicted enough damage.

The little twist is that you will fight him as the Real Simon, in a wheelchair. The player played in fact Book Simon, during the entire game until the end.

Book Simon, armed with a flare and a sledgehammer, is gunned down in a dark alley and once he is defeated, triggers the ending where Simon survives.

In Co-op mode, sometimes the game will turn black and white and a music similar to Chapter 8 music will play. To get the game back to normal, you must track and kill Book Simon, who is armed with a shotgun.

Although he seemed perfectly real and vain in his attempts to kill the "real" Simon, he was ultimately a hallucination. This may show how the crippled, broken down Simon overcame his dark, wretched existence which he once begrudged, and came at peace with himself, ultimately triggering the arguably good ending.
