Well, to complete certain badges you kinda have to buy cards. Devs also get their cut from every market transaction.
Btw.: you recently sold your M4, guess who takes a full 15% of that :P

So, yeah, it's borderline in your case. Personally i can't avoid the market with my little project.

I have mixed feelings about Badges, I want a certain level of my profile for those sections. But if you craft badges (by buying cards) you support Valve more then the developers.. I don't support Valve they already earn too much cash with the market..
