Completion Achievements
These are really skill based so there is not much to say, but try for the bananas achievements straight away, since they net you the lower tiers as well. These are the only achievements that you can't use artifacts to get so you will have to rely on your skills.

Story:

We Have Normality
Beat the Main Campaign on Normal difficulty.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Beat the Main Campaign on Hard difficulty.

The Safe Word is "Bananas"!
Beat the Main Campaign on Bananas difficulty.

Challenges:

To get the challenge achievements you only need to beat 5 of the 7 challenges, which are:
  • The Festival
  • Snowy Higherlands
  • That Other Forest
  • Crystal Caverns
  • Veiditorp
Wizard's Diploma
Beat the five base Challenges on Normal difficulty.

Professor's Diploma
Beat the five base Challenges on Hard difficulty.

Sage's Diploma
Beat the five base Challenges on Bananas difficulty.

Trials:

For trials I recommend taking the following equipment:
  • Wuxia Robe
  • Staff of Helviti

For non-boss trials take the Murry familiar, as his damage stacks up quite high, while for boss trials take the Pit Manager as you will benefit much more from his boost when fighting a single target. Remember to keep your armor up and the boost to death and fire from the Helveti staff should take care of your damage needs.

Trial by Fire
Beat all the Trials in the Main Campaign on Normal difficulty.

Trial by Fire+Lightning
Beat all the Trials in the Main Campaign on Hard difficulty.

Trial by Fire+Lightning+Death
Beat all the Trials in the Main Campaign on Bananas difficulty.
Other Achievements Part 1 (Single Chapter)
These I find to be the most enjoyable to get, because they force you to really explore the game and play unconventionally. Beware of the spoilers ahead and I recommend making at least one attempt to get them all by yourself before consulting this guide! Good Luck!

You can use custom artifacts to get all of these achievements, but most of them are doable without the extra help.

Important note: I recommend refraining from using artifacts when trying to get achievements, unless you absolutely have to, since a lot of them will also be tied to various unlocks!

Pet Sematary
Defile the remains of your beloved pet, Behold, in the Main Campaign.
Prologue

When you acquire earth, go back to the start of the prologue and shoot a rock at the skeleton of Behold the Watcher!

My Loot!
Kill the looter Goblin in the Prologue of the Main Campaign.
Prologue

STRIKE! Oh, Wrong Game...
Interrupt the Kubb game in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 1

Simply knock over some of the playing pieces and you've got it!

Focus Spender
Finish Chapter 3 of the Main Campaign without using Spells.
Chapter 3

All you need to do is refrain from using any spells. There is only one moment where it really seems like you need to use water but if you emergency teleport enough times next to the wall you will eventually jump over to the pesky thumping crab!

Into the Caves of Insanity
Find and read all journal fragments in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 3

Just go along Chapter 3 and read all of the journal fragments, they aren't really hidden so spotting them should be easy.

Focus Saver
Finish Chapter 5 of the Main Campaign without using Magicks.
Chapter 5

Uum, you don't really need to use magicks in chapter 5, just resist the muscle memory urge to haste!

Bring Your Orcs to Work Day
Win the Khan fight in the Main Campaign after activating the orc warriors.
Chapter 5

All you need to do is go behind the shield wielding orcs during the Khan fight in chapter 5 and kill all of them! Then kill the warlady and you've got it! Apparently just aggroing the orcs is also enough for the achievement, but where is the fun in that?

The Circles of Life
Listen to all of Sir Antburrow's nature trivia in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 6

Most of the time he is in obvious spots but on one occasion you need to take a path less traveled enter the forest where you will find him, along with a piece of the "Game development is hard" achievement.

Other Achievements Part 1B (Single Chapter)
Don't Touch My Food!
Finish the Kebab Cart encounter without the cart taking any damage in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 7

This is quite a challenge if you want to do it without artifacts, but the set I recommend makes it a breeze, see the bottom of this guide for artifact and equipment sets. Even so it is still easier to do it with at least two people. If you don't have access to a partner remember to haste and circle the cart in a wide arc to take care of any incoming goblins.

The King's Speech
Listen to the King's entire speech in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 7

This one is possible to do on normal if you kill the lady first and then hold out against the wizard dude until the king is done talking. Alternatively immortality makes it child's play.

Heart Hoarder
Put out all the torches in Vanirhall in the Main Campaign, without restarting from a Checkpoint. No Cheating!
Chapter 8

Take it slow when walking through the castle in chapter 8 and be on the lookout for the torches, note that some of them are on the walls that are not directly visible so it's best to look for their glow on the floor, or just spray everywhere with water just to be safe. The last of the following screenshots shows the last location where torches need to be extinguished. In order to get the achievement after you have extinguished all torches you have to move on to the next area, after you move on if you didn't miss any of them you will be awarded the achievement.

To my counting there are 38 Obvious Torches, +1 (the unlit one that opens the secret doorway) +2 below the prison arena, which are extinguishable, I believe that you need to extinguish only the obvious 38 in order to get the achievement. (Please correct me if I'm wrong and I will update, I need confirmation from someone who doesn't have the achievement yet and is willing to experiment)

PS: The two below the arena are extinguishable with water rocks.
PPS: Remember that you have to move on to the next area before you will be granted the achievement. You must not die while trying for this achievement, because if you die you will restart from a checkpoint, which goes against the description of the achievement, so failing the prison fight will prevent you from getting it!

Shank Master
Finish the prison arena encounter in the Main Campaign using only melee attacks.
Chapter 9

This is the only one that I have found to be impossible to achieve without the use of artifacts, so you will probably need to at least use immortality. (To get immortality, you need to beat the game on bananas, thanks Aaromk for clearing that up!)

No Collateral Damage
Defeat Elin without killing her Vanir backup in the Main Campaign.
Chapter 9

A well aimed SSFFF (arcane fire) beam should easily take care of the squishy witch in no time without harming any of the guards, especially if you are using the staff of Helviti.

It's "Football" not "Soccer"
Defeat the final boss in the Main Campaign without using Water Sprays, or the Magicks Push and Concussion.
Chapter 9

This one shouldn't be much of a challenge since pushing her elemental balls out the window by kicking them is the easiest way to win the fight anyway, just use the Wuxia Robe and don't ever let her revive the golem, it's all about positioning and casting disrupt, if you manage that she should be no threat, the move speed buff from the robe is truly essential here.

Just Remember: In order to get this achievement, you must not skip the cut scene after the boss fight! This is really important, because as of yet this bug persists.
Other Achievements Part 2 (Multy Chapter)
Respect Your Elders
Find and talk to all Veterans of the Wizard Wars in the Main Campaign.
Prologue and Chapters 2,5 and 8

Just remember to talk to them before you kill them. I'm saying because I didn't and I had to go back without knowing which one I had missed.

Burying the Past
Kill all Veterans of the Wizard Wars in the Main Campaign.
Prologue and Chapters 2, 5 and 8

Prologue:

Chapter 2:

Chapter 5:

Chapter 8:

Horse Whisperer
Find and interact with all the special horses in the Main Campaign. Some interactions are harsher than others.
Chapters 1, 5 and 8

Chapter 1:

Chapter 5:

Chapter 8:

Summer is Fleeting
Listen to everything that John Frost has to say throughout the Main Campaign.
Chapters 2, 4 and 5

Chapter 2:

Chapter 4:

Chapter 5:

Other Achievements Part 2B (Multy Chapter)
That Escalated Quickly
Activate and survive a Dark Altar in the Main Campaign.
Chapters 3, 4, 7 and 8

Each of the shrines can be activated by blasting it with whatever elements the statue is holding.
When trying to beat these shrines on normal, hard or bananas the helveti staff is really detrimental in chapter 8, because you need to attack with life and cold against the big demon, but it can be really helpful in chapter 7 because those cthulu crabs are really weak against steam.

Chapter 9:

Shroom We Will Be Together
Unite the mushroom-obsessed farmer with the Humongous Fungus in the Main Campaign.
Chapters 3 through 8

In chapter 3, near the beginning, there is a big mushroom next to a waterfall, if you click on it a small version of the mushroom will fall on the ground, even though this shroom is a weapon it is not unlockable, so you will have to preserve it through to act 8 where you will have to slap the mushroom farmer in the face with it, triggering his monologue of admiration. After he is done talking you will be granted the achievement. The easiest way to do this is to use the artifact set I recommend below and if you ever fall in a hole or off a ledge just press escape, go to main menu and click continue to restart from the last checkpoint, you should have your mushroom with you. Note that taking the shroom, going back to menu and then to chapter 8 will not work, you will have to carry it the whole way, much like in the original Magicka where you had to carry a secret sword half way through the game. Ah truly stuff of legends.

Chapter 8:

A quick pro tip for this one:

Grind Achievements
Some of these can be quite a drag to get since you will need to do things over and over and over and over .... again. But I will give you some ideas to make things a little easier!

The ones that take care of themselves:

These are pretty simple progression achievements and by the time you complete the story and do all the challenges and trials you should have most if not all of those.

Nurse
Heal over 100,000 hit points.

Doctor
Heal over 500,000 hit points.

Miracle Worker
Heal over 2,000,000 hit points.

Humble Beginnings
Inflict over 1,000,000 total damage.

Serious Damage!
Inflict over 5,000,000 total damage.

Terrible Terrible Damage!
Inflict over 20,000,000 total damage.

Warlock
Kill 1000 enemies.

Archmage
Kill 10,000 enemies.

Just Another Wizard Day
Die 100 times.

Trial and Error
Die 1000 times.

The really grindy ones:

These involve killing yourself and your friends and also a lot of revives, but lets face it, most of us don't have any friends who would play Magicka 2 with us no matter how much we tell them it's awesome, so if that's your case grab a controller and follow along! note: If you don't have an xbox controller you will need to grab some emulation software, google x360ce, weird how Magicka 1 would take any old controller but Magicka 2 only accepts fancy xbox ones! The easiest way to get these pesky achievements is by using a some clever macros.

Suicides:

I Meant To Do That
Kill yourself 100 times.

Trial and Error
Kill yourself 1000 times.

Ugh these two are the worst! No one actually tries to kill themselves while playing, do they? So these will take the longest while to get. The idea behind the macro for this one is casting a guardian magick, killing yourself and waiting till you get revived and doing it all over again... 1000 times... So the guardian magick will revive a dead player roughly 8 seconds after it's been cast. You can preform a successful self cast roughly 2 seconds after casting a magick. Yeah the delays are really important in this one. I guess any macro software would work as long as it can repeat the macro indefinitely. note/disclaimer: I don't know if paradox like their players using macros so this example is purely for informative purposes! These macros are just conceptual! Use macros at your own risk!

Killing your "friends" and reviving them:

Did I Do That?
Kill your friends 100 times

Oh, My Bad
Kill your friends 1000 times.

Ress plz...
Revive your friends 100 times.

RESS PLZ!
Revive your friends 1000 times.

This is where the controller comes in handy, just join in as the second player and create a private adventure game on bananas difficulty. I recommend Chapter 1 as it starts off straight away in a safe area. The macro for these takes a lot less time than the one for killing yourself. The idea is simple area cast arcane while your buddy is alive to kill them, revive, rinse and repeat. The delays are pretty simple it takes about 2.5 second for initial revive invulnerability to wear off so that's the biggest time sink in this one.

And always remember if you plan on using any of these macros pay really close attention to the delays, all of the delays!
Achievement Hunter Artifact Set + Equipment
Artifact Set:
  • Enemy Health - 10%
  • Wizard Health - Wizards are immortal
  • Fire - 300% Damage (Cold for Dark Shrines)
  • Death - 300% Damage (Life for Dark Shrines)
  • Wizard Movement Speed - 300%
  • Spell Weight - Move unhindered while casting

Equipment Set:
  • Wuxia Robe
  • Staff of Helviti (Staff of Lok for Dark Shrines)

I don't really remember how to specifically unlock all of these artifacts/items but if you get all of the completion achievements first you should have unlocked most or all of them.

Heart Hoarder is still buggy, I will write how I did it in case it may help someone. I completed location ignoring all torches, but didn't left at, near final stairs I exited to main menu, then continued, ran to the beginning of the level and started extinguishing all torches using only water spray, no water explosions. Honestly not sure if it really helped or I just got lucky on this attempt and game decided to give me achievement.

Hello! what counts as killing yourself? i tried using water on myself and spamming electricity but it didnt work, any tips?
Szabista Jan 9, 2022 @ 4:21pm
Quite thorough, though elaborating multi-chapter achievements separately instead of inserting their relevant section into the chapter at hand makes the reader backtrack for these achievements just like you did.

in my case walking normally into the end level wasnt working, so my theory on this is that maybe, rather than using a single trigger to execute both the end level script and the achievement unlock checking the amount of torches you killed... maybe, just maybe, instead of that, they made it so that there's 2 triggers, one for the achievement and one for the end level, and the achievement trigger is MOVED into place after you kill the torches... Maybe, that second trigger does not execute properly when you step into it because you have executed the end level trigger first... Thus leading the tp into the stairs bug being posibly a way to make sure you always unlock it.... but im not sure tbh... What im guessing is that maybe, this problem could be related to how triggers tick in magicka 2. Whatever the reason, it sort of reminds me of the classic fallout 1 force field bug caused by faster clock speeds in modern computers....

Awesome info! I sure hope tp-ing out of bounds is not a requirement to get this achievement. It for sure was not when I was grinding it out. Just pure speculation here, but perhaps telephoning can mess with hitting the trigger and may be advisable to avoid using it when attempting to get it. This is just based on you saying that you finally got it after "walking" all the way through the map. Maybe it's easy to teleport around the achievement trigger, maybe there's more than one trigger. Or maybe the end level and achievement triggers are misaligned and you may end up hitting end level first. I'd bet on being able to teleport over the achievement trigger and straight into end level.

Part 2:
My familiar respawned me at the begining of the whole map (just before the arena) and i walked all the way to the end of the level again. When i walked into the next map, i got the achievement just fine. This leads me to believe that something was touched in an update, accidentally introducing this bug (im kinda new so idk when this update could have been tbh). I checked it out with a friend who couldnt get the achievement either, and sure enough, when he did the same tp out of bounds as i did, it worked like a charm. Im wondering now if someone who doesnt have the achievement could confirm wether this works for them as well.
Xaviruso Jan 2, 2022 @ 2:27am
Part 1:
I ended up figuring out what was wrong and why so many people have trouble getting the achievement. Im not sure when this was introduced to the game, but there seems to be a bug with the trigger at the end of the level. The way im guessing its done is that there's 2 triggers, one for the achievement unlock and another to load the next level... I recorded myself running multiple attempts, so i know that i killed all of the torches each and every single run. The only difference in the last run was that i accidentally teleported (A+S+S) inside of the stairs, which made me skip the next level trigger and fall out of the map and die.
Xaviruso Jan 2, 2022 @ 2:26am
@Johnson Im going to make a pretty large comment with some information i have found, so i'll divide it into 2 parts because of steam's 1k char limit.
