Introduction to Gmod Murder

Gmod Murder is a gamemode on Garry's Mod. The game comprises of two roles, the murderer and the bystanders. The game is won if the murderer kills all the other bystanders or if the bystanders kill the murderer.

As simple as it seems to win the game, but once you step into the game, it will be a whole different story. Hence, this guide is to teach you the tips and tricks you may need to survive and possibly win the game.

When you are a Bystander

So you are the bystander, you do not have a weapon to defend yourself and you are with people in which one of them could be the murderer. it may seem like you are in a hapless situation, but if you have a keen eye, a sharp mind and some useful knowledge, you may be able to pinpoint who the murderer is or even escape death.

But, how do you do it then?

1.) Be open to posibilities

Sometimes, when i play Gmod Murder, most people think that the person following the bystander with the weapon is the murderer. This logic is not wrong but it may not be correct as well. In order to really pinpoint who the murderer is, you will need to keep an open mind to the number of posibilities as to why things happen and how it may have happen. Thinking logically of the situation and not jumping to conclusions can save yourself and maybe even others. Question others to find the truth and maybe with enough evidence you may be able to know who is exactly the murderer.

2.) Understand what is out of the norm

See someone acting suspicious? There is a chance that person could be the murderer. As murderers have a different motive as that of the bystanders, they may tend to act slightly different than bystanders. Look out for people who you may think are acting out of the norm, here are some things you would want to pay attention to.

• If someone seems to be running faster than others, he is probably the murderer as murderers are the only people who have the ability to sprint.

• See anyone who appears to be in black smoke? Because if you do, he is the murderer as murderers will have black smoke around them if they have not killed anyone for a long time yet.

• Also, if you think a person is trying to change or may have changed their appearance, there is a chance this guy is probably the murderer who may be trying to disguise himself in front of others.

• Happen to see a person ran by a gun and did not pick it up? That person is then the murderer as murderers are not able to pick guns in the game.

3.) Listen to people carefully

Some people who may have seen who the murderer is or may have their suspicions on someone will voice them out either through the chat or microphone. You need to listen carefully on these communications between players as they can give crucial information on who to look out for and items such as a gun you can pick up to defend yourself.

4.) Find clues

Clues are basically objects that are glowing in green ( although some servers may not have clues glowing in green which you need to be aware of ) that can help you obtain the gun. If you collected 5 clues in the game, you can then get the gun. Hence, explore the map to search for such clues so that you will get the chance to grab a gun and defend yourself from the murderer.

5.) Confronting with death in a smart way

If there is a situation in which you are being chased by the murderer, voice out who the murderer is to anybody that still alive. That way, even when you have died, others will be able to note down who it is and even take down the murderer. Of course i would recommend this to those who have a microphone. However, should you not have one, do not try to type in the chat you unless you are far away from the murderer, what you can do is that you can lead the murderer to places where there are lots of people. Doing so may cause the murderer to stop pursuing you or alert other players.

When you are a Bystander with a secret weapon

Most of the tips and tricks of being a bystander with a secret weapon can be found in the earlier topic above, but there are still some extra things you need to know if you become one.

So, you are the bystander with a secret weapon, you spawn with already a gun in hand at the start of the game, sounds like a relief right? That may be true, but there are some problems you will face taking up this position. Here are some things you will need to note to actually when you are in this role.

1.) Use your gun wisely

The gun which you have can be a great tool to use if you know how to use it wisely. It is advisable not to take your gun out all the time, some players who may be trolls will try to follow you to persuade you to shoot them which will be a hinderance to your job to nab the murderer. You should not pull out your gun, unless you see the murderer, that way trollers may not find any reason to annoy you and you will also not be a target to the murderer. If a player is getting suspicious that you could be the murderer, you can take out your gun as a sign of authority and proof to your innocence so that you wont get shot by anyone just because of a false suspicion.

2.) Use the environment to get a good shot at the murderer

Ok, let's just admit it, some of us are not good at aiming, shooting, quickscoping, etc. But, this does not mean that you are not able to kill the murderer. Sometimes, you need to change how the target moves to get a shot at him. Using the environment can help you to do so, you need to lure the murderer into a place that might slow him down or make him move in a straight line in order to increase your chances of shooting him. For example, there is this trick that i use in whenever I am in gm_construct, I would lead the murderer into the lake which will slow him down before shooting him. Hence, the environment can be an advantage to you in the game.

When you are a Murderer

You are the murderer. You are armed with a knife and you need to kill everybody before someone kills you. This may seem like an uphill task but with some tricks and a cunning mind, you can become one very dangerous murderer.

1.) Understand your abilities

A murderer have advantages and disadvantages in the game.

Murderer's advantages

• Able to sprint ( by holding down the shift button. )

• Able to wield a knife

• Able to throw the knife ( by using the right button on mouse )

• Able to disguise ( by using the e, however, you need to obtain one clue in order to disguise. )

Murderer's disadvantages

• Can't pick up the gun

• Will have black fog emitting from himself if he has not killed anyone for a long time

2.) Plan your attack
In order to be able to win the round by yourself, you will have to come out with a impromptu plan on how you are going to kill all the bystanders. Coming up with a plan is a good way to start the round. That way, you will not feel lost at what to do should you face an unexpected situation. But even as you think of your plan, you will need to be ready should another situation arises which might compromise your identity or survival, don't be afraid to make changes to your plan as you are playing.

3.) Be deceptive and cunning

In order to survive in the game and even complete the task, you will need to outsmart the bystanders. The bystanders in the game will be very cautious and alert of what is happening around them, they may also try to do some investigative or deductive work to try and figure out who the murderer is. You will need to make very deceptive moves very carefully in order to get yourself out of the trouble should there be a situation in which you are suspected to be the murderer. You will have to make ruthless calls such as lying to others, disguising as someone else or put on an innocent act to try to distance yourself from being labelled as a murderer.

4.) Seize the opportunity

Opportunities to kill bystanders without being detected do not come by easily. Take the chance to do so if you can. Pondering about whether or not anyone would find out about you may delay the chance to be able kill the bystanders. Daring to take risks and seizing the opportunity can help in your chance to win the game.

Conclusion

Of course this guide is not going to turn you into an mlg player immediately, you also still have to bear in mind that some players don't really take the game seriously and that there will be people who are trolls, rdmers, campers, micspammers, etc. Apart from that, this guide is just one of many perspectives on how you can play this game.
