Fix for game not starting in windows 7, 8, or 8.1

Game won't run? Is your OS WIndows 7, 8, or 8.1? This guide might have the answer you're looking for.

Before we begin

Ensure your video card drivers are up-to-date.

Terrorhedron won't start!

Ok, so Terrorhedron was on sale for like $0.02 and you bought it like a cheapskate idiot distinguished and accomplished human being. But alas! You try to start the game, and the stupid thing won't start! Tragedy!

What do you do, hotshot? What. Do. You. Do.

Well, let's first try to figure out what exactly is making the game fail to start. To do that, let's-

Try starting the game in Windows instead of Steam

Reason I say this is due to experience. When Terrorhedron was giving me problems, nothing happened trying to start it in Steam. Nothing at all. No error message. No screen flicker or hiccup. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Its like I didn't even click the 'play' button.

Trying to start the game outside of Steam should yield a different result and help diagnose what's preventing the game from starting.

What? You don't know how to do that? Ok, there's 2 ways to do this.

easiest method: bring up the start menu (clicking on the windows button at the lower left corner of screen). Click on the search box at the bottom, and type "terrorhedron" (without the "s), then click on terrorhedron.

alternate method: locate and go to the Terrorhedron folder (default location is Computer\C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Terrorhedron), find the icon in there that looks like a red sphere called Terrorhedron and click on it.

Result: you get an error saying a file is missing.

In my case, I got an error message when trying to start Terrorhedron in Windows. The error message said I was missing a file. If you get the same missing file message, and the missing file's name resembles the following:

D3DX9_(##).DLL
D3DX10_(##).DLL

Relax. Breathe. And most importantly, don't freak out, search for the missing file on google or bing, and then download malware off some seedy untrustworthy site.

The error message means you're missing directx files. OLD directx files. This is easy to fix! All you have to do is update directx. Directx is Microsoft software that is part of Windows. As such, the safest place to update it and get these missing files is through Microsoft. If you search for 'how to update directx' on a search engine, you should get links to Microsoft support and their download center.

Hit the big red rectangle that says "download"

select 'run' if a box appears asking what you want to do with the file

let the directx installer do its thing, and the game ought to start now!

Alternate result with workaround

(this part is under construction and based on a rumored problem I can neither confirm, deny, or even test. So contact me via comments to help pin the issue down further)

Ok, so there's another group that seems to have problems getting this game to run. Russians. And others with a similar language. One theory is the game has a conflict with the Cyrillic alphabet

Terrorhedron may have been made during cold war and its capitalist creators will be damned if their game submit itself to the will of the Soviet reds. Blame Stalin or McDonalds, whichever you prefer.

A possible workaround would be to set up Windows to allow guest accounts, RESTART your computer (because depending on your version of Windows, switching users or logging out doesn't always completely log you out), sign in as a guest, and then try starting Terrorhedron. Many people recomend to play from Guest user.(google how to do that) then all work fine even savegames

I think you meant 'work' not 'fork'
based on most of the people having trouble with the game in the forums, game is racist towards the cyrillic alphabet. AFAIK, there's no work around or fix for that yet.
