Achievement - Dealing 30 Million Damage

You probably won't come close to dealing thirty million damage in a single hit in regular play, but there are a large number of factors you can take advantage of to greatly increase your damage output.

Overview and stuff
During normal play you probably won't come close to dealing 30,000,000 damage to an enemy in a single hit, but there are quite a lot of factors you can rig in your favor to hit this insanely high level of damage output.

Here's a video, for those of you who are into that:

Equipment and Setup
Natalie's the only character who's able to hit this insanely high number, and to do this we're going to be utilizing a bit of Dark type magic. For the initial setup there are a few things we need to keep in mind. Naturally, since we're using Natalie, it's strongly recommended that her magic attack is maximized. Second, since we're going to be using Dark attacks, we need to crank the Dark type boosts up as far as possible. The best combination I was able to find was:

  • Staff: Hela's Staff
  • Hat: Dark Bauble
  • Armor: Dark Gown
  • Badge 1: Balance Badge
  • Badge 2: Gold Star (I wasn't using this in the video above, but it also raises your magic attack so it's a good idea to have it)
  • Badge 3: Doesn't especially matter because the first two are the only ones which will have much of an impact; I had the Ancient Rune on, because why not.

I find that it also helps to have the Peace Sticker equipped to one of the characters somewhere because the Weaken status comes in useful in the battle, but there are other ways to inflict it so it's not imperative. You could make it Natalie's third badge, or give it to any of the other characters you have playing, it doesn't particularly matter.

The game difficulty doesn't have an affect on the amount of damage you deal, but I reccommend playing on Normal or Hard so that the enemies have enough HP to take a few hits if you aren't able to inflict the statuses on the first try, but won't quite do enough damage so that you have to constantly worry about staying alive.

The lowest level you can do this with is 45 (the related 3 million damage achievement can be executed at level 31) but if you're able to grind up to level 50 you should, so you have a little more breathing room if something doesn't quite work out during the battle.

The Battle
You can pick on any type of enemy that has a weakness to Dark and can be affected by Weaken and Freeze, but the easiest one to go after is actually the Gold Dragon, which is immune to being one hit KO'd (more on that later). Which I find sort of funny because it means you can potentially do the most damage to one of the strongest enemies in the game . . . never mind.

Anyway, there's a few of them sitting on the bridge right before you get to Godcat, go "talk" to them and they'll fight you. Pick off any non-Gold Dragon enemies that might be fighting along side them because they will only ruin your day.

Now that we have a Gold Dragon fighting on its own, we can start setting up on it. Start by lowering its Magic Defense and inflicting the Weaken status on it; the Fright/Screamer attacks are probably the best way of lowering the Magic Defense, and using a regular, bashing attack with the Peace Sticker I mentioned in the last section is a pretty reliable way of inflicint Weaken.

Once you've done those two things, it starts to get a little more complicated. A frozen enemy will take double damage upon being hit, and while there are plenty of ways to freeze an enemy the Gold Dragon has a pretty strong resistance to it (70%) so doing this might take quite a few tries. The Absolute Zero limit break has the best chance of doing this, but the Frost Sprite summon, Anna's Frost Arrow or a bashing attack with the Fr*ezie Badge will also do the trick.

Once you have the freeze in effect, maximize Natalie's Magic Attack - probably with a carton of Milk - unleash the power of the Black Hole limit break, and enjoy the descrution.

Once again:

  • Lower magic defense (up to 2X extra damage)
  • Weaken status (2X extra damage taken from Dark attacks)
  • Freeze (2X damage on taken from the next hit)
  • Raise magic attack (up to 1.7X extra damage)
  • Scoring a critical hit is immensely helpful (1.3X extra damage)
  • The Black Hole limit break is a Dark type special attack with a base power of 500, which already deals double damage to the Gold Dragon.

Noteworthy: ordinarily the Black Hole would have a fair chance of OHKO'ing its target(s), which would bypass the damage calculation and screw you out of the achievement, but since the Gold Dragon is immune to that you don't have to worry here. This is why it's possible to use other enemies for this, but the Gold Dragon is the best.

By the way, to put in perspective just how much damage this is: in the third battle with Godcat, the Creator and Destroyer have less than ten million HP on Epic difficulty; therefore, while the Destroyer doesn't care much about Dark attacks and both are immune to Freeze, Creator could be taken out in one hit if the other factors are in your favor. (Might add a short video of this later, when I have more time.)

That's about it! If there's anything else I missed that I should mention, I'll add it when I find out. Have fun!

Was bored and decided to get all the achievements, I thought I'd get stumped, thinking another limit break combo with Lance instead might've gotten close. But nah, it's 2024 and with the explanation, I managed to hit 93M damage with it kek. Thanks for pointing to the god combo fr

bueno, es mucho mas facil con la venganza de matt que afecta la defensa del dragon

Helpful guide, thank you!

One thing I believe might have been overlooked, which makes freezing the dragon far easier, is that if you put the 'Wet' status on it first with an aqua arrow or the like, it greatly increases the chances it'll freeze from subsequent ice attacks. Just in case anyone is struggling on that front!

As people have already mentioned, a ghost is better than the gold dragon due to far less damage, and also you can use the Holy Fire skill to debuff it's Magic Defense (which heals it compared to Fright/Screamer which might kill it), so there's even less chance of accidentally killing it

Thanks for this, worked like a charm. Just in case this doesn't work, keep in mind that damage rolls are very, VERY broad in this game, plus without crits it's very unlikely you'll reach 30M. I'd add in that using Brave on Natalie is critically important, pun intended, and it might take a couple tries regardless.

Can also have Matt switch accessories after applying Weaken to unleash again for Curse. That leaves the dragon at -50% for a while so you can properly set up your freeze + milk. If you need a crit, Temper Natalie too.

Would add that anyone looking to do this really should be pumping Natalie with cake all the way from the first playthrough, and should actually 100% NG+/NG++. Bare minimum is about 21000 Magic plus a crit. I had to overgrind because I gave a bunch of cake to Lance the first time through and sped through NG+ and missed a bunch more cake.

It's literally shown working in the video.

This doesn't seem possible in a New Game+, as the enemies' stats scale with you. Gold Dragons and Spirits have 12 Magic Defence at level 50, and my Natalie doesn't even crack 20 million damage with this setup (18.5k Magic Attack).
